We might have to make a tough call this year if he gets a (band 2 or 3) offer. Band 2 is Pick 19 compo, and Band 3 is a pick after our 2nd rounder (with presuming a finish of 3rd last, becomes pick 22).
What happens when you don't have a 2nd round pick? ie. Our current situation? What does band 2 equal in that case? Is it based on what our 2nd rounder would have been had we retained it?

Lynch is a free agent at the end of next season, if we are going to spend big on a key forward this the guy. He comes out of contract at the end of next year, gives us time to accumulate young talent (especially through the midfield), and time to assess how our young forwards are developing.
If we haven't sounded out Tom Lynch's management by now about a big FA move next year then something is wrong.

I would be in his ear now, telling him to keep an eye on our young talent and great coaching.

Offer him 1mil + per year. Spend our next 4 highest picks over 2 years on building an elite midfield and make lynch the crown jewel.

No way known would I be in his ear now............................................I would have started a year ago. :)
It would be a coup if Lynch was seen by our football department as the missing link.......Forget Schache and other 'maybe's'......This guy makes sense.

No difference, pick is after our second round pick (regardless of who has it). Same situation as happened to Freo last year, they didn't have a second round pick but got a second round pick compo for Mayne.

Exactly! a guy like Schache is going to be expensive and is still unproven, who's to say he will be better than McKay? Lynch is the real deal and we would know exactly what we are getting.

You can add that year 11 student named Ben to this basket of eggs too.
Read the whole post:

'All I hear is people saying McKay will come good and Ben Silvagni will fill any deficiencies (a 16 year old kid that wont be drafted til the end of next year, might not get drafted, and if he does get drafted, is no guarantee to come to us, and even then we dont know if he'll even be any good if he does get drafted).'

I dont know about you, but I dont want to raffle our future chances on a 16 year old kid that wont even be drafted for 18 months (if at all) on the basis of his family name. He might not be any good and get drafted, or he might not be good enough for us to justify matching a bid that comes in for him, or he might be good but not elite.

From where I sit, he doesnt enter the calculations.

Heck, McKay only enters the caluclations based on us drafting him already. He's still an unknown quantity, but at least he's an unknown quantity that is on our list, and who we know was viewed as top 15 quality Key Forward by most draft watchers (experts in an inexact science).

We wont know with McKay for another year or two.

I'm in agreement, he shouldn't be a consideration at this point.

Things don't seem to be working out for Tom Bell up in Brisbane. Not sure if the home fires are to blame or not. Haven't heard much about his dad since he left.

He left us on positive terms - any chance of him reappearing with us as a mature age rookie if the axe falls?

Nice idea, but Tom lacked football nous.
Not sure we'd be double dip into him.

Be very interested, but Gazza wll be gone by then, and GC will be able to use a sizeable portion of GAJ's 1 million dollar contract retaining Lynch.

It sounds bad but I think SOS would've been fairly happy with Bell wanting to go home for family reasons, he was never going to be a long term player. Helped our rebuild, we used his pick to get Curnow.

The fact neither got called up this week even in an extended 5 man squad pretty much signals the fact both are gone at the end of the year.

Boltons not playing blokes that arent in our future plans.
Jones is out injured for 3 weeks! Thats why he hasn't been called up.

If Boyd got over $1 million over 7 years and Schache $700,000 over 5, Lynch would cost $1.5 million over 10 years.

I was just wondering if there has been a successful kpf built up in the twos before?
All the top forwards I can think of now; Lynch, Cameron, Buddy, Kennedy and Riewoldt from memory played Afl early.

So I was wondering if we are trying a new method with McKay or I just missed a lot.
Also I acknowledge McKay was drafted bottom age so that adds a factor or two.

He was delicate like a battering ram.

I just loved the way he tackled blokes - like he was trying to use their body to make a crater in the turf.
A certain savage grace to the way he moved, too.
But... moving right along...

I loved Bell in his time at the Blues, but a limited footballer and not complimentary to where our list is currently at.
We got him cheap, he gave 110% every time he played and we maximized our return when he left on good terms. Perfect football relationship.

SOS did himself no harm with his stance on Gibbs last year, but maybe even more-so with holding firm on not releasing our first for Marchbank, Pickett and whatever else may have come our way for it.

You won't always win the game but you have to know how to play it. Seems as though SOS has a pretty good idea.
