If Liam Jones is now officially a backman we really have to get a KPF in this years draft and trade period.

Our talls are McKay, Weiters, Casboult (FA) and Kerr. Possibly also Charlie and a resting Cripps. Lots of potential but no certainty yet.
According to the fantasmistas, there are a number of prospects in the first round or two.

One'd almost let Levi go and take one's chances if the AFL gave us fair warning on compensation but it'd probably be pick 37 at best. :(

Can move marchbank up there I think
That's already a good mix
Harry
Marchbank
Charlie
And jack
Plus a couple of smalls from the midfield rotation and one small forward

I know, that was a response about the possibility of going backwards next year

A two steps forward, one step backwards isn't going to hurt the rebuild, it should be expected that its not all full steam ahead, there will be peaks and troughs.

Nobody has stopped any discussion here from what I have seen.

Not wanting us to trade our captain out has nothing to do with having a closed mind or a feeling of sadness at the thought of him going (not for me anyway).

You choose to focus on the possible compensation if he's traded, others like myself feel it would be a bad move by the club, compensation not being the be all and end all of the matter.

I respect that people have different opinions but I firmly believe it would be detrimental to the club now and moving forward. I believe the young players and the future leaders have plenty to benefit from by players such as Murphy and Kreuzer continuing to be Carlton players until they are ready to retire.

I don't see the club ever making the suggestion to him that he may be better off somewhere else as has been suggested.

We will see, especially when he is looking for another contract next year. If he wants a three of four year deal but the club are only offering two years, then such a conversation will definitely be had. guarantee it.

good of you to guarantee something that you have no input into and will probably have no knowledge about when it happens.

Amazingly Cas is far more important to us than pick 37 (straight after our second round pick). Especially after we win the flag:D

More than happy to wait until the end of next year to see how it pans out.

I certainly can't see us offering more than two years at that stage but I also don't see him asking for or expecting 4 at the age of 31. For mine it's unlikely that there will be a need for any such conversation.

Whatever the case may be I am happy for him to play out the last year of his contract with us.

Really glad GWS didn't pull the trigger on the Tomlinson trade, he is an ok player, but we offered them pick 12, which ended up being Charlie Curnow and he has a way higher selling, wouldn't have been a disastrous trade as Tomlinson would most likely be best 22, but certainly would swap Charlie for Tomlinson.
IIRC it didn't look like Charlie would have been available at pick 12 at the time of the potential trade, drink driving stuff made him slide slightly very close to draft day.

I tend to agree. Not sure Tomlinson is much of a forward either, which is where we would have wanted him to develop.

At best would have ended up a Lachie Henderson type.

Yep. Great outcome for us. The biggest bullet dodging for us was Jake Carlisle. Not sure how close we were but just imagine the result. Average bloke, a years suspension, not much above average as a footballer, probably we wouldn't have chased after Marchbank, lost a high draft pick in the 2015 draft (maybe the pick we used on Charlie) and lost salary cap space (reported $750K). There is your sliding door moment.

Goodness we've lucked out with some of our apparent missed targets...Tomlinson, Prestia & Carlisle.

As you say, none of them would have been a bust but it's turned out so much better that we've missed them.
They all ended up costing a high draft pick to the team that acquired them.

Besides with Tomlinson and Carlisle, we would have been paying a decent amount of coin for them in addition to losing the high draft pick...whereas regardless we're stocked with talented KPD's and got them a lot cheaper trade and $$$ wise.

Plowman & Marchbank > Tomlinson & Carlisle. They're better interceptors, better people and cost far less.

Still can't believe Aints gave up pick 5 for Carlisle, I know there was some swapping of later picks, but if that snap chat comes out a day or two earlier and Essendon would have been getting a 3rd rounder for him, if anyone would take him, Essendon played Saints big time.

2015 draft it's shaping up as a sliding doors type point for the club.
Pick 1 Jacob Wietering
Pick 10 Harry McKay
Pick 14 Charlie Curnow
Pick 23 David Cuningham
Pick 55 Jack Silvagni
Not often does a club nail every draft pick in one particular draft, but it's looking very much like SOS has picked the eyes out of this one, having 4 picks inside 23 was ideal for this draft, as was having 6 picks inside 70 in the 2016 draft, for a club in rebuild this stuff is just gold.

It always work out cheaper if you can develope your own, when you start doing things right even the moves you don't make, end up working out, back line is stacked ATM.
SOS was into Tomlinson pretty big time to the point that we pretty much know what pick he was willing to offer, not really sure how serious we were in regards to Carlisle and Prestia, but bullets dodged if we were.

What's crazy is so much of our forward line came from that one draft...McKay, Curnow & SOSOS...plus Weitering plays forward sometimes.

It feels like a long time ago, but before that draft we had barely any forward options...only really Casboult, Hendo & Jaksch.
Now we have plenty of young potential.

Easy to forget those boys are only 2nd year players.

Pretty much got most of that draft haul, for the low price of Hendo, Yarran and Bell
With a bit of a free hit with Jack FS, it really was a killer draft for us.

The evidence speaks for itself doesn't it? The 2 forwards lucky last for the debuts from the last 2 drafts. Fantastic turnaround from what our recruiting predecessors delivered.

See I sort of don't mind that and apparently Dododgyro really did rate Jack highly, at least someone else actually rated Jack and bid on him, it's not likely they used an early or really valuable pick to force us to over pay and it's much better then Josh Daicos who wouldn't have even been drafted if not for his sirname, at least Jack can never be accused of that.

Turning Hendo, Yarran & Bell into McKay, Curnow & Cunners...SOS you frickin genius.

Exactly the kind of list transfer and injection of talented youth we needed.
Out of those 3 only Hendo is playing solid footy right now so we didn't lose much.

And who can forget somehow turning Menzel into Kerridge, Phillips, Lamb, Sumner & Plowman.

Plowman a star, Sumner still has potential if he gets over his injuries, Phillips is a good 2nd ruck option while the other 2 have been serviceable fringe players in the short-term.

Have massive hopes for McKay, get the feeling Bolton has definitely been holding him back, but when he does finally get his chance, we could be in for some real fun up forward, that kid is a beast.

We had pick 19 anyway so I don't think we can count Cuningham
