Does anyone know anything on the Hickmott's? Two sons of Adrian ready for F/S selection this year and next. Are they good?

There is another thread on our main board that mentioned something on the two of them. By the sounds of it the one next year is the more likely of the 2 and the one this year wasn't expected to feature highly.

Cant clear that in one season, even 2 would be a stretch after you add failed draftees and rookies in.

The question was "who is in the gun", everyone on that list is certainly in the gun for one reason or another.

We have two more trade & draft periods ahead of us before the 66-game period comes to a close, we'll know a lot more at that time.

Armfield
Buckley
Boekhorst
Casboult
Galluci
Graham
Gibbs
Gorringe
Jaksch
Jones
Kerridge
Korchek
Lamb
Palmer
Rowe
Sheehan
Thomas
White
I would add Sumner and possibly Kruezer to that list.

I'm hoping we trade out our future second again for a player. Maybe a M Kennedy type. That will help fill another list position without having to take 3+ fifth round selections in the draft.

I am fairly confident Smith would be able to transition into a player who plays majority mid...look who he's up against at GWS so he's automatically down the pecking order due to the class of their depth and is almost forced to play forward majority of the time...But with his talent he would become super valuable to us if we could get him for a late 1st Rounder. No reason why he can't become a goal kicking mid, desperately what we need.

As i posted , Smith is a favorite of mine so i don't need to be sold on him at all .
Just a matter of where Bolton/Silvagni see our priorities lying re our existing and required talent and how to best use our available resources at years end if indeed Smith even becomes available .

Price is a massive part of it as well.
The Crows drafted Milera and Cameron even though they had Betts and to an extent Wright at the time, there is also a chance that some or even none of the guys you mentioned make it at all whereas Devon is already a class player.
I haven't seen Lebois or Polson play but i have seen the other two play and they for mine are the opposite type of player to Smith.
Would you go after Smith and what would you pay (picks wise)?

As you say , price both in $ and trade would definitely be a factor in any pursuit of Smith as against going to the draft as the Crows did for Cameron and Milera .
As much as i like Smith , if trading is on the cards I'd be targeting the likes of Kennedy and Hopper as genuine mids and both smack bang in our desired age demographic .
Both also bigger bodied to assist Cripps than Smith who is smaller in the mould of SPS , Fisher and Polson .
I'd also be strongly investigating the elite FA this year and going forward .
It's a free hit at elite talent and we have heaps of cap space available that we are committed to spend .

I know Kruezer is a free agent but why would be looking at letting him leave just as his body is starting to hold up and we are getting some depth in our midfield.

At this stage his back up is Philips who has had his injury troubles, Gorringe who hasn't proven himself and Korcheck who is a along way from playing seniors.

Spot on ,he was one of the reasons we one on Sunday. Could play for another 5 years. Becoming a GUN at age 27.

Playing devils advocate:

We need more mids, we need more top end draft picks, we are 2-3 years away from challenging (who knows Kruezers output by then), ruckman are picked up cheap, why have a dominant ruck when you have a weak midfield, the dogs won a flag with pretty much part time rucks, the Hawks won 3 in a row without a dominant ruckman.
Depending on where we finish, the pick we receive from Kruz departing could get us a pick around 20 or even used to secure a mid not getting a game at the giants or elsewhere.

That's it and also he will be 29 during next season so will most likely be retired by the time we are contending.

Worpel is this year's Will Brodie, perhaps? Premature tip for Nº1, then sliding...
Worpel was never going to be a pick 1 Az... I think I originally said he would probably go between 10 and 20, but someone else said top 10.

I knew that he wasn't the greatest kick in the world, but he has a good handball and is a good inside mid. If he slide to the second round and we managed to grab him, I would be over the moon.

I like Sumner but you are probably right, he needs to get a wriggle on this year but he does have a few he has to compete against for a spot in the seniors.

Kreuzer has to stay, the time to move him on was two-years ago when he had some interest. He's a 'heart & soul' type we need to hang on to right now.

As for trading future picks, just ask the Hawks how that is looking right now ?? Trade for more picks and keep going to the draft, its the only way for us to get anywhere presently.

The only way we can trade for more picks now is to trade a Gibbs or Kruezer which I agree will hurt us. Kruezer wanted out a couple of years ago so he may force our hand anyway.
The only way I would trade a future pick is for a player and trading a second rounder is a lot less risky then a third. We will also most likely have a lot more delistings this year then next so we could be better off using that pick this season rather then next

The Hawks traded multiple current and future pics to nab Omeara, us offering a future pick for a player is not entirely the same.

when was the last time a ruckman through his domination significantly helped his team win a flag?
Mumford (Sydney, probably GWS soon), Jolly (moreso at the Pies), Ottens (Geelong) and Cox (WCE) come to mind.

So it's pretty much only the Hawks who have got around this, but even their success tapered when they lost Hale; not a traditional leading ruck, but very important to their structure and reliable when called upon.
