Blakely has been good but McGovern has been better. IMO Mitch has more upside too - watch him become as good if not better than Jeremy.

Agree to disagree here. Mitch was a much more obvious choice, especially after missing Jeremy and seeing how capable Jeremy had become. Missing Mitch was like making the same mistake twice.
I think you might be over-rating Mitch a tad. He had a pretty good season last year but he's still a fair way behind Jeremy. It's pretty hard to assess him fairly because he is in amongst arguably the best forward line in the comp and he is far from Adelaide's best forward. Would he have been as good in a weaker forward line? Is he future All Australian material like his brother or has he just looked good beside Walker, Betts, Lynch and Jenkins?

I think we'll learn a lot more about both Blakely and Mitch McGovern this year. Both are good players and both are capable of taking another big step forward but the opposition also knows a lot more about them now than they did 12 months ago. Hopefully Blakely will be amongst one of the best midfields in the comp (ie Fyfe, Neale, Mundy, Hills, Bennell are all fit) this season and get every opportunity to become the gun complete inside mid he appears capable of.

Blakely's solid but he will never be as good as Mitch McGovern. Talls with Mitch's skillset are very rare. He is going to be an absolute super star.

I'd also argue that Mitch was a bigger mistake. He was right under our nose and was expected to go around our pick. He desperately wanted to come to Freo and we told him we'd take him with our second rounder too.

I expect the Eagles will get him next year but Adelaide will certainly do everything to hold onto him. I hope he has a change of heart but from what I've heard he's not very fond of Freo anymore.
Mitch is no doubt a talent but I think we need to remember that he's the 5th/6th target in the most offensive forward line in the comp. Would love to have him on our list but am more than happy with Blakely, especially with Mundy's retirement closing in.

I think Blakely is looking like quite a talent himself and I'm not quite sure why you're making such a definitive statement as "Blakely will never be as good Mitch". Seems strange considering they are still young pups and have a long way to go before they hit their respective peaks.

I guess we'll see over the next few seasons.

True. I really like Blakely and think he will be a good player but don't think he's in the same league as Mitch. Time will tell, and hopefully it proves me wrong!

Ribbish. J. McGovern was on the Eagles tookie list for three years. He was lucky not to be delisted. He had a woeful attitude and was dropped until he reached fitness levels. I commend the Eagles on being able to turn him into an AFL player. Odds were he was going to end up as a bust.

Mitch is too small to be a true KPP. He will be a handy third tall defender or gorward. He won't IMHO be a star.

I agree with your last line but Jeremy's 2014 season was very, very good so mightydockers was correct. I suspect, or guess that our recruiters were on to it (I hope) but they rated Blakely higher. I'm sure that we thought the Eagles would either take McGovern or Blakely at 30 and then when they left both we decided to go Blakely after much consideration. The Crows recruiter backed this up by saying how surprised he was that Mitch was still available to them, I'm sure he thought one of us (WC or Freo) would've taken him.

I'm happy with Blakely even though I can see how very good Mitch is. I just wish our recruiters took a risk in the 2012 or 2013 drafts to take Mitch in the RD so we could have both.

Does anyone else follow Lachie Weller's girl on Instagram?

Her stories on there from today are awesome and shows that they are having a hell of a time... and also that I would have liked to have been on that damn boat.

Unlikely they are going anywhere else soon.

Did she move over here from the eastern states? I gather she is enjoying the lifestyle/other wags?

Any non Gold Supercoach players able to log in and select there team? Is it just me, or are non gold members still unable to pick?

Yeah Goldcoast I think??

The ones I noticed who were present:
Tabs, BHill, Weller, Tommy, Fyfe, Tucker, Strnadica (I think) and a flock of young birds.

I hope Crumpet doesn't see that pic - Fyfe wearing long pants when everyone else has shorts on and nobody has their arm around him. The bloke just isn't a team player and they obviously all hate him. The sooner we offload him to the Saints the better. Then we can free up some salary cap so we can extend Subas and Danyle Pearce. :p

Nearly spat out me coffee!

They are both serious tool bag campaigners and hard to part but by the length of his nose hair Basil remains the bigger Richard Head. His smugness screams punch me now! The other morning I flicked over to the 6PR morning program only to hear him crack the same Shawshank redemption joke about the escapee Quokka about eight times in less than 5 mins. Even his partner told him to give it a rest.

Oh was that the same Shawshank "joke" he made in the 2013 GF about Buddy..."You've seen it before but you've just got to keep watching" ??? He should get himself down to Spotlight for some new effin material!

One for Haggers to start the week with. Nat Fyfe got in Lachie Weller's girlfriends pants!!!

Is Lachie dressing his missus like Fyfe... or Fyfe dressing like Lachie's missus. I'm so confused.

I think Sheridan is the guy that's organising all these boat trips.

The importance of guys like Sheridan in building a bit of camaraderie off the field can't be overstated, especially with young interstate recruits. It's why we've had such a high retention rate.

Just as long as he doesn't organise a boat trip on the Monday off before a big finals game.

I had forgotten how terrible the umpiring and the commentary was. Basil is a flog of the highest order - hates Freo with a passion.
