Father son rule is ridiculous, would like to see it removed. That said, I hope the club flys to afl headquarters and enquire/demand that he be eligible for nomination.

Agreed! It has heavily favoured some clubs over others which which has given them an unfair competitive advantage. There should be a quota system at the very least over say a period of 10 years - you go over the quota and the games played to qualify goes up, under the quota and it goes down. Or the points required to draft goes up or down.

In 10-15 years time a team like Hawthorn is going to swimming in father sons while a team like Melbourne will be drought. We seem to be perennially in drought. Biblical level drought even.

I don't particularly see why Hawthorn will have lots and Melbourne few. Both clubs have probably had similar numbers play 100 games. Whether the Hawthorn gene pool is actually much better is probably unknown.

I like the father son thing. I think the only thing wrong with it is that it disadvantages newer clubs and the AFL don't care about that. We will be on the same footing as others in another 10 -15 years.

That is true, potentially Melbourne will have more as they turned their list over more - assuming quality breeds quality though (I have no stat that backs this up) potentially Hawthorn will have more a-grade father sons to Melbournes.

Still some clubs just seem to have an endless well of fs talent to draft from while others have none. Any benefit a team gets in a "fair" competition needs be balanced and currently there is no balance.

If we demand openness and honesty of others ... then ... we too must be open and honest. We have got it wrrr, wrrr, wrrr … wrong with the Ross The Boss stuff. That's it. No more. We're done. Finished.

What is Damian Barrett on? Cant understand this. Is he saying he had faith in Ross and has now lost it?

I stopped reading his stuff ages ago. Loves the sound of his voice too much

Why worry about what damien barrett has to say. His stuff is what toilet paper was made for.

He is your typical bandwagon loser

Support you while your winning. While will dig the boot in when your losing.

So not a single player in the AA squad this season. Gold Coast the only other club to have none.

Interestingly Fyfe finished up 3rd in the AFL Player Ratings for this season (Dangerfield and Martin ahead of him). Neale was the 10th best midfielder (13th overall I think).

Not surprising. Walters is only player from our team I would consider and the injury has cost him. Fyfe has improved as the season has gone on, but had only really played 2 or 3 quarters of top class football.

From what we know about him, he probably wouldn't like to see his name behind some of those others, Scully, etc., and it will just fire up Fyfe to play harder next year.

I see the Eagles focused media is running another negative story on the teams' snub of a young boy who wanted a high-five from the players as they went up the race.

I had the pleasure of sitting with the cheer squad yesterday and after the game the players all came over to us and thanked us for our support.

Fyfey even acknowledged me with a thumbs up when I yelled out "On Ya Fyfey" as he came over to the fence. The players then high-fived all the kids including the young Essendon supporters along the fence as they made there way back around to the race. The problem was that this kid was on the other side of the race as they went up and the players clearly didn't see him.

I guess that when we only lost by 15 points to side that belted the Eagles by 10 goals at the same earlier in the season, they have to find something else to hang shit on us about.

That footage is before the game and it's hard to understand why noone raised a hand, the kid obviously thinks he's reachable.
Having said that you could probably do that story for every club every week if you were desperate enough.

Just saw the footage and the players were going up the race and into the rooms when it happened. Perhaps it was half time then, as there was no shortage of high-fives after the match.

This story is being perpetuated by none other than Mutton Chops Foster, who's obviously annoyed that Kennedy choked in another big game and blew his chances for the Coleman Medal.

Fester is a canker agreed;the players have got their prematch warm up tops on as far as I can tell.
The club will probably do something to square up with the kid.

The guys look like they have the pre game warm up shirts on in the video with the little kid.
Regardless of what journo is pushing the story, and for whatever reason I do not personally like the look of it. The kid is reachable, and is basically the only one with his hand out, he is even pointed out to some of the players by another lady. It, in my opinion, is poor. The players need to acknowledge a kid like that, especially in Melbourne.
As a very long time member of the club I find this a bit distasteful and a bit cringeworthy to be honest.
Naturally enough, the usual suspects are lining up to kick the club over it, and unfortunately on this occasion I have to agree with them. There really is no good excuse for not giving the kid a high 5. If it were my kid I would not be happy with it. No doubt the club will reach out & try to make amends, but it should not have happened in the first place.

In my opinion, (i) Reading Brendan Foster's articles, and (ii) considering his opinion on anything FFC is about as biased, relevant and worthy of our time as reading articles on the Obama's by the KKK. Please don't feel that you need to soil our board with his insight and wisdom.

That's fair enough. Well I don't think it will be on 6PR.

Not sure what Ross can say really that he hasn't already. I think the tipping point is real because we haven't been getting enough out of our senior players so we can't effectively carry the young players.

They get behind, heads drop, stop trying and get flogged. I honestly think that is all it was. Against Sydney they never thought they could win (like against Crows) so their heads were never in it to start with, don't try and get flogged.

That is the issue I would be working on, sell the belief they can compete. They showed it against GWS and Geelong but couldn't carry that to the last two games for whatever reason. That is the only long term issue I had from the last two games.
It's good to see the Purple Army (paid members or not) spread out across the country and eastern states.

Jeremy and Mitch McGovern were Dockers fans growing up.Picture: PerthNow

News: Recent and from early this month (Some may have already read)

Adelaide's Mitch McGovern is reportedly considering a big-money switch to Fremantle.

Fyfe thinks Fremantle already possess the bulk of the list that can take the club to future success, but he wouldn't mind seeing a bit of "fruit on the side" added over the summer.

Meanwhile, vision has emerged of a young Dockers fan being snubbed by Fremantle players when he went to hi-five his heroes before Sunday's 15-point loss to Essendon.

Fyfe said he didn't see the young fan, and he promised the club would make it up to him if he or his mum made contact with Fremantle.

So using last weeks AFL player ratings (this weeks post R23 has not yet been released, probably tomorrow sometime);

The following players were not selected in the AA squad, but are ranked in the top 22 in the AFL player ratings;
#3 (2017 Rank) Gary Ablett (Jnr) 14 games (played only 3 of last 9 games due to injuries)
#6 Scott Pendlebury 16 games (injured since R17)
#9 Nathan Jones 15 games (missed R14-19)
#10 Ben McEvoy 22 games (Paddy Ryder #8 selected as the most likely ruck)
#19 Isacc Heeney 18 games (missed R1-4)

I guess they were overlooked due to injuries and missed games or something.

All of the other 15 highly ranked AFL ratings players were selected in the AA squad, some 15 midfielders (including J.Selwood 18 games and Kennedy-SY 19 games).

All except for 2 ... who played 21 games each and were both ranked in the top10 but declared not good enough for the AA squad ... they were;
#4 Nat Fyfe 21 games
#10 Lachie Neale 21 games

Maybe the selectors feel that these Freo players have high ratings because they are good players in a poor team or something ... even if actual data supports the opposite (ie. 59% of the top22 players come from the top 44% of the teams).

I can accept Neale being overlooked, even if I'm still a little dirty for him missing out in 2016, but to not select Fyfe in the 2017 AA squad is absolutely rediculous ... especially when the likes of Tom Scully are selected. Even if you compare Scully's documented highlights, Fyfe still beats him in virtually all areas (nevermind looking at contested football where Fyfe dominates).
"Tom Scully. Never previously All Australian. 21 games in 2017. 210 kicks, 77 marks, 274 handballs, averaging 10.0 kicks, 3.7 marks, 13.0 handballs. 14 goals, six Behinds. 67 clearances, 74 inside 50m, 33 rebound 50m. 60 tackles."
vs Nat Fyfe. 21 games in 2017. 236 kicks, 95 marks, 319 handballs, averaging 11.2 kicks, 4.5 marks, 15.2 handballs. 17 goals, 13 Behinds. 124 clearances, 82 inside 50m, 29 rebound 50m. 96 tackles.

And at a time when Freo fans should be asking the AFL for a please explain, they are instead commenting about how poor it looked when Freo ran down the race after a pre-game warm up and didn't notice a kid asking for a hi-5.
