Karl Langdon: Eagles right to win 'Stoush on the Swan'

ALI, Foreman and Frazier had the Rumble in the Jungle and the Thrilla in Manila.

For Fremantle and West Coast it’s been the Stoush on the Swan.

The Dockers had gone all out to convince the AFL they should open the new venue and in a way they will with a women’s game of AFLW against Collingwood on Saturday, February 10.

But in reality the Dockers struggled to fill corporate suites in 2017 and crowds fell away, in some games to 27,000. That’s not what we need at the new $1.4 billion 60,000 seat stadium.

West Coast have had a waiting list to get a seat at Subiaco for years nearly two decades and while many fans abandoned their seat at Subiaco they continued to pay for it as they were looking forward to the new venue.

There has been plenty of anger from long-time Eagles’ supporters, particularly the noteholders who have been unable to access many areas of the ground or have been priced out due to the different packages. I hope their loyalty is rewarded.

That said the Eagles have had the least turnover of members from year to year of any team in the competition at less than 2 per cent.

Very selective journalism. Our average home crowd in 2017 was only 4.4k lower than WC (32.4k vs 36.8k). That is actually much closer than the media would have you believe.

Even though I seen most of his career it was that long ago the memory is a pretty hazy, was Langdon even all that good as a player? Seem to think of him as being rubbish at least towards the end (although Malthouse always loved him), also couldn't kick a footy on his right to save his life.

One thing I will say about him that may be controversial is that his radio commentary is decent. Any proper analysis is generally lazy rubbish though.

He was known as Nearly, nearly took a mark, nearly kicked a goal etc. An under sized CHF who tried very hard and it's hard to knock that but they had no better options so he always got a game.

Why didn't the Eagles make the offer directly to Suns?

Brisbane having 3 weeks of consecutive away games is no biggie for the AFL to work around, but the Gold Coast don't get their stadium for 10 weeks, much harder to accommodate. Seeing as the AFL are very very reluctant to let any team sell a home game in Perth it makes sense to go after the most likely option, being a Gold Coast game being moved.

They've just backed the wrong horse in here. Can't see what they are so bitter about.

Anyone know where I can find match replays? Not working on the AFL website. Feel like watching the third quarter against Melbourne earlier this year.
some really classy footy in that game and that Q in particular. I was lucky enough to be in Melbourne for it and had a great day at the G.
Its a little bittersweet to watch as some of the highlights come from Weller, Crozier and Balic.

Weller’s best game in purple imo.

Watched the GWS replay the other night, taking special notice of the contributions of Weller and Crozier (Balic didn’t play). While they did a few good things, there was nothing that won’t be offered (or exceeded) by Wilson and pick 2!

Did anyone else an article in last Sunday's News Limited newspapers about Steve Johnson seeing Hayden Ballantyne in Melbourne in October and spending time together to discuss past matches?

Not saying he's not a good player, but 'superstar'? Buddy, Ablett, Dusty, Danger, Fyfe are superstars imho. But Fox have to put some content on so it's all good [emoji106]
