Does anyone know what the deal is as an MCC member? First year MCC and I'm up to about 13 years as a Hawk member. Probably not going to use any Hawk membership for entry, but am still keen to on being a member.

Any other MCC members around that can suggest an idea? Thinking just the 3 game membership is probably the cheapest option.

As a three game ticketholder (downgraded three years ago), I don't really consider myself as a member any more.
I downgraded for this year after being told I had to upgrade to Kennedy Club to keep my seat.

I've seen 4 Grand Finals so I'm satisfied enough to not give up my money freely when the club demand too much.

It's called an MCC club membership. You can purchase it online at the MCC website. Any trouble and just call the MCC they'll straighten you out over the phone. After your first time, it's just included in your MCC renewal and they ship the cash to Hawthorn.

That's what happens when majority are forced opt-in renewal.

This year we had to renew online because we did not get an invoice in the mail. As a result we have forced opt-in renewal too. It is enough to make cancellation of membership an option, especially if price increases get too much.

Automatic renewal is good for Home game memberships as it's only $18 per month over 10 months
I was a Director's Club member at Waverley and then a Kennedy Club member when we switched to the MCG for about 5 years, but now with changed work commitments it's not worth me having a reserved seat, so I switched to a normal Home game membership
I only get to about 3 games a year nowadays :( but I'll always be a member!

Because i have changed my credit card details my direct debit bounced.
The message from the club was i "need to contact them and pay the outstanding balance of my account ", since when did i have an "account " they can GAGF.

If you pay in monthly instalments like I do then that would be an "account" I'm guessing

I dont pay monthly and take offense to please pay us $193 immediately.
Maybe you should learn to be less offended.

You didn't tell them you changed your card details and you didn't opt out of renewing.

Who'd have thunk that a communication system set up to deal with payments pertaining to tens of thousands of people is somewhat impersonal. Are people expecting hand-written notes from Clarko on some form of sacred parchment? Yes, your correspondence from the club (which runs through MyhHawks via Ticketmaster from memory) is mass-produced and probably refers to it as an account. But, I am going out on a limb here, if you are quibbling about the bloody semantics of a mass-generated email then I dare say that pleasing you would have been nigh impossible for the poor souls at the membership department.

Why the f**k does it have to be auto renew anyway?
Because the money hungry club that I love and have been a member of for many years needs to extract every cent and dont give a shit how they do it.
Auto renew should be something I opt into not something I need to opt out of.

I'm happy with auto renew because I want my membership to continue as is.
And I know I'll keep the same seats, which I want to retain.

If I had a problem with any of that, I would ring the club and speak to someone.

Forced? Anyonenis free to renew or not renew. Sounds like a tightarse posting.
Forced as you're automatically opted-in and renewed, rather than contacting the club to renew.

In instances where your reserved seat is suddenly reclassified as a higher category, meaning you pay an extra $160 a year, you need to contact the club to prevent that additional money from being taken out. In contractual law, silence is not a form of acceptance. This new pricing change, is a new contract from the club to members. It should be an opt-in by request, not automatically.

So when the OP said 50k already signed up, that just means 50k members haven't called in to cancel their memberships. It doesn't mean 50k have decided to call and make the effort to join for 2017.

Keep up the good fight for us, the minority. I try to sign at minimum available membership as anything more has very little benefit for people living elsewhere.

I'm afraid modern business practices, where an aggressive approach is used in favor of a personal one, seem to be the norm nowadays, and it's sad when the "Family" club adopts that line, instead of selling the memberships on a love your club basis.

I have supported, and donated to Hawthorn for more than 60 years, and hope they can return to a passionate request for renewals, and leave the business approach to others. However, I do understand that this may not be possible.

yeah but you can opt out.
auto renew is partially because of how lazy people are, some that were thinking about cancelling won't get around to it and stay on the books, same people would not have called up to join so it's in the clubs interests to use that laziness to their benefit.

Seriously don't like it then don't update your details and don't have a membership

upgrade without signing anything or an email link to click on to acknowledge is getting a bit cheeky I agree

if you want to have a 3 game/interstate/whatever the cheapest option auto renewal you should be able to have it without worrying about it sliding, however, just about every business model on the planet these days seems to be, screw those that don't ask questions with price hikes, which is a shame.

Again, companies prey on the laziness of their customers to maximize profit, footy clubs in this sense are run like companies so it's not surprising behavior even if some of it is a little underhanded
