Have you seen Gorringe play football?

Not directed at you Cheese, but I don't understand all the negativity around Gorringe.
Your question is actually valid, but in the context of, we haven't seen anywhere near enough of him to make a call yet. Especially the definitive calls that are being made about "can't play" and "he's gone at the end of next year"....
Gorringe has some weapons and looks like he's pretty versatile. Whether he has the mindset to make the most of these things is yet to be seen. But most certainly too soon to be writing him off, as many have done.
I'd like to see him used as a mid. Not based on his size alone, but on the overall potential value he could add to the side...

I'm going to reserve judgment on Gorringe, but my "guess" is he's going to be a good player for us...

Kreuzer needs to slim down and reinvent himself as an outside midfielder.

if kruezer can't win enough ball and have an impact as a ruck he certainly won't as a midfielder.

Super athlete. Not a great footballer.

Struggles to impose himself on games at VFL level, looks lost at AFL level.

I'm not sure any amount of time will make a player out of him, to be honest. It's important to remember he wasn't a raw, potential laden 18-year-old when we picked him up. He joined GC in 2010 and is going into his seventh pre-season.

His acquisition has been far from a disaster; a free agent signing on what I assume is minimum chips is worth a punt, but I'd recommend you not get too excited about what's to come.

I've taken a special interest in Polson. And I think he'll end up more an inside mid than outside. From what I've learnt, he has mongrel in spades, and very much enjoys the contest...

totally agree. watching him and listening to him I get the impression of something quite special. here's hoping

I had the same thought a few weeks back in another thread.

I think he'd be a useful player running off half back, but the question mark will be on his defensive game. No use being able to run the length of the ground if you concede goals through poor defensive work. If he can be accountable when required, and provide some slingshot running, he'd be worth a look down back.

I think Gorringe ads to a long list of talls who have played at Carlton over the last decade who simply don't play tall very well and get by on doing a few other things slightly better than your average tall. We've had a lot of tall players who we make excused for like, they apply pressure, or tackle or are good with their hands at ground level but aren't really impacting in the air, this isn't what we really need nor is it what makes great sides. Gorringe is good with his hands and at ground level but I haven't seen him really mark the ball or impose himself in the air and run hard to the right places on the ground and what I saw of his rucking was extremely weak. I think as a forward/ruck utility, even Kreuzer is ahead of him and Phillips has shown more. Casboult and probably McKay should go past him in this role.

I think this year we'll start seeing a few talls come in who can actually play tall. Weitering was a breath of fresh air after years of 193cm+ players with butter fingers who couldn't get to the right areas of the field.

He certainly seemed unfazed by the full body assault his family gave him draft night................that's resilience, although would have liked to see him stand up in the tackle and flip the couch..........

Good point. But apparently, later on he ran down the street to tell a mate the news, and left a Polson shaped hole in the brick fence...
