Pretty much my thoughts. In addition to this, it's a whole lot easier to go SPS -> cheaper rookie if things go bad than it is to go cheaper rookie -> SPS if he kills it

I was keen on him early on, but gave up on him after the JLT performances
Looks really soft, think he'll play a very outside game and rack up easy touches, as opposed to winning his own and going in hard at it

Neale and Gallucci basically the only true PODs in my entire squad (under 5% ownership). Happy to ride the Neale/Fyfe duo bandwagon, and while I didn't watch too much JLT I don't mind settling on a bit of a different choice for a mid rook. Any Crows fans been watching Gallucci's progress? Round 1 chance?

I would have thought that most midfields would have Powell-Pepper as M8 so you are only looking at 3 bench rookies who have reasonable JS for cash generation. Picket will get a game every week so is a safe pick, Barrett, if upgraded and picked, would be a reasonable option, Parfitt if named for R1 would have the similar JS to SPS and save a lot of cash. One poor match away from the seconds - at least we have seen Parfitt who has performed quite tidily, and played a role. The Suns boys are pricey with doubtful JS.
Miles and Hibberd don't grab me even if named. Poor JS. Also time to check your rookies against the experts tomorrow. Relative safety in numbers if you go with the crowd. If they fizz and you have to correct the field will be in the same situation.

At least there seems sufficient coverage with defensive and forward rookies and there will be safety with the popular choices.

It may not be a big deal at the moment, but you will regret early rookie trades at the pointy end of the season.

Dollars! 10 mill only goes so far when you are loading up with 600k+ premiums. Most midfields will bat fairly deep with say JOM or Swallow at M7, whilst trying to avoid mid price madness. A whole cluster of good performers like Selwood, Treloar, Zerrett who are $35k cheaper. Of course he will be an upgrade target, and probably won't rise too much.
Personally I have him. Saw an analysis of his season starts over last 4 seasons, and fairly compelling.

They won't always be out, you need someone going big for 22 games which is hard enough in the GWS midfield, and he's TOG seems to always be low.

Not sure if injury, fitness our structure issue, but he spends too much time on the bench for me.

I read somewhere Shiel was injured and out for over a month. Not on their site so not sure now.

Why Sheed at his price?

Bowes, SPS, Florent etc. could all be options outside of the cheapies... and save you $80+k.

Thought about Bowes, but can't decide between him and Brodie (who may play more)
SHeed was just a safe way out because of JS and he'll score around 80 IMO )Have florent, not touching sps coming off injury with no preseason in a team that will be belted.

I had Shiel last year and he was a disappointment. I've got Kelly this year. Think he'll rise to SP status. Perfect age for a breakout and has killed it in the preseason. Aside from TOG Shiel's DE also lets him down. Always seems to be rushing to dispose of the ball.

Shiel is like Wines, Prestia, Oliver, gun mids who are useless up forward, so it's mid and bench

Zero chance round 1 ......IMO he's likely to get maybe 6-8 games during the season, typical of most first year rookies .....but we're talking an experienced side now, so harder for Rookies to break in
