I'd agree with that as a general rule Dodgy but like every rule there are exceptions. Doohan started his career as a crasher but by the end rarely crashed, to the point where in 97 he arrived at the last race in Phillip Island having not one single crash in practice or racing for the season. He then proceeded to have his first crash on Saturday (at Southern Loop avoiding a dawdling Peter Goddard) and his second when he crashed out of a ten second lead at turn one.
Casey really didn't crash much by the end of his career either, most of his was done when he was young and the year Ducati had a terrible front end.
And Marquez is well known to push to crashing in practice to find the limit and then try to ride to that limit as close as possible, hence he makes so many saves during the year. It is, of course, a risky strategy as more crashing opens up more opportunity to injury.

I guess the other mitigating circumstance is the equipment. Stoner primarily became known as a crasher on the Ducati. Then Rossi, not a noted crasher, got on the Ducati and proceeded to crash his brains out. So that plays a factor too.
