That explanation and the comparison to the media vitriol around some of LT incidents is disgraceful. The rule was brought in specifically to make players take responsibility for the hit. It wasn't an attempted "body block". He tried to stamp himself on the game and stuffed up. Ben Cunnington would be looking at that and his Rd 1 suspension with disbelief...

JZ got off!

If we were 4-0 he'd have got six weeks. But because we might be looking early draft picks and are 0-4 he's as free as Morgan Freeman the ex President of South Africa.

This is an AFL inspired ruse to keep us away from top end talent! < where the hell is my tinfoil hat?>

James Parsons, Geelong Cats, has been charged with striking Luke Hodge, Hawthorn, during the fourth quarter of the Round Four match between the Geelong Cats and Hawthorn, played at the MCG on Monday April 17, 2017.

In summary, he can accept a two-match sanction with an early plea.

Based on the available evidence and a medical report from the Hawthorn Football Club, the incident was assessed as intentional conduct with medium impact to the head. The incident was classified as a three-match sanction. The player has no applicable record which impacts the penalty. An early plea enables the player to accept a two-match sanction.

Other incidents assessed

Contact between Hawthorn’s Josh Gibson and the Geelong Cats’ Tom Ruggles from the second quarter of Monday’s match was assessed. The panel said that Hawthorn’s Isaac Smith had the ball, with Ruggles on the mark. Smith moved to play on and began to head to his left to move down the ground, with Ruggles seeking to pressure his disposal. Gibson comes from the side to provide a block for his teammate. Gibson makes body to body contact with Ruggles and, in the course of that contact, the players’ heads clash. On the MRP guidelines around rough conduct that covers head clashes, it was the view of the panel that the degree of force in Gibson’s block was not excessive for the situation, the panel’s view was that Ruggles was involved in the play when contact was made by Gibson as he was seeking to pressure Smith, Gibson did not run a long distance to support his team mate and Gibson did not jump or leave the ground to make contact with his Geelong opponent. On consideration of all those factors, the panel’s view was that Gibson’s actions were not unreasonable in the circumstances and no further action was taken.

Starred in a premiership with, and drafted from the Subiaco Football Club, after an epiphany.

Obtained though the use of the old paper bag full of cash or was is fridges and appliances. For those non WA types, think Carlton.

Hey, settle down! Subi was a busted-arse laughingstock when I was a kid, quite enjoying the rarefied air of the silvertail in my dotage [insert monocled toff emoji].

love how defensive subi fans get about that

Wasn't there a Roos player in the last season or two that got rubbed out for a bump which resulted in a head clash?

Someone help me out here...

Gibson's was exactly the same

This is a true Easter miracle - MRP resisted the usual insinuating arseholes in the media who say things like: "ooo he could be in trouble there"

No, Lindsay Thomas clashed heads when he laid a shepherd on Ben Reid who went off concussed.

Thomas cleared by MRP as head contact was accidental. Media outraged.

AFL bring in rule that onus is on player who chooses to bump - if he makes accidental contact with the head, tough luck.

Nat Fyfe gets two weeks for accidental headclash. Media outraged.

It appears the AFL changed the rule again. I missed the memo on that one.

yep, changed it after the LT one, that onus is on bumping player, and as soon as one of the AFL golden kids gets banned for it, change it back.....
tells you a lot about how the AFL view certain players/clubs

The Gibson bump was the carbon copy of the LT head clash incident and why they brought th rule in the first place.

MRP needs a new grading system, one for LT and one for its love children.

Need to change thread title. Should be called a chook lotto. By calling it just a lotto you are referring to a professionally run organisation that follows strict regulations. These turkeys are not in that category. Pun intended

AFL legend Kevin Bartlett has slammed the AFL’s match review panel for failing to protect the man on the mark.

Speaking on Melbourne radio on Wednesday morning, Bartlett labelled the MRP’s decision to clear Hawk Josh Gibson “a disgrace” and “a joke”, saying it let down protecting unsuspecting players for failing to cite the veteran Hawthorn defender.

Ruggles was standing the mark late in the second term in Monday’s clash with the Hawks when Isaac Smith played on with Gibson on hand to assist.

Both players struggled to their feet but Ruggles was forced from the field and played no further part. Bartlett says that showed the bump was of “excessive force” and warranted further action.

“That decision by the match review panel to give the thumbs up to the Josh Gibson incident in taking out Geelong’s Tom Ruggles, is a disgrace,” Bartlett said on SEN.

“The man standing the mark should not be taken out with force when the umpire calls ‘play-on’.

“Talk about being a sitting duck. Ruggles moves sideways to cover Isaac Smith when play on was called from a stop play.

“Ruggles was then poleaxed by Gibson, and those little birds you see in cartoons are birds flying around his head as he lay prostrate on the ground from the impact.

“All this for just standing on the mark. Ruggles could take no further part in the game and is in doubt for this week’s game.

“What a joke. The MRP said the block was not excessive for the situation.

“It sure was, for the force was excessive and unnecessary.

“Then the MRP said Gibson didn’t run a long distance to take out Ruggles. Of course not. When you want to block the man on the mark, you stay in close proximity so you can block — supposedly without force and not taking the player out.

“A player standing the mark should not fear for his safety and be blindsided and picked off.

“The MRP sadly let the game down in protecting unsuspecting players.”
