Just can't kick the thing.
Like I said he's awkward at the moment but that's not the finished product, don't want to pass over a guy too lightly that had the superstar tag not so long ago

Everyone is going to scream about the other key in the mix too but you can work on kicking, and even though he's from WA he is a bigger Pie fan than Eddie

6. COLLINGWOOD - Naughton - has the afl traits to be a 10-15 yr player. Selfless, reads the play well, smart interceptor kicking can be up and down but will be a good defender and has held his own in seniors this year. The Pies have a team of mids with a very ageing spine, here he is one of the best available and fits a need also.

I wouldn’t call Fogarty explosive from congestion tbh, but his attack on the ball is something else. I’d back him to get the ball in any 1v1 contest.

He has reasonable breaking ability from congestion similar to Degoey (through power) as opposed to a Treloar type (who has blitz pace).

Stringer's pretty bloody explosive.

There is nothing wrong with Fogarty's ability to power away from congestion, even whilst carrying a bloody meniscus tear he displayed it at times throughout the champs.

He isn't Treloar type who explodes through a blistering 20m run, he is more like Degoey in that he has ok pace but more so a lot of power.

If the AFL was serious about the development of youngsters in Tac Cup then coaches should be of AFL standard.. seriously.. Schache went at pick 2.. why? Cause he was given a paddock to do as he feels at tac cup level. The bloke plays afl.. and looks like a peanut.

The game plans employed at tac should be a lot more similar to AFL. Gives scouts a better gauge of who the real talents are.. and better prepares these youngsters when transitioning from tac to AFL.

Its a junior league - would not make sense to have AFL level coaches especially when probably 90% of the guys arent going to have a future in football.

A potential solution would be raising the draft age by a year, give the guys a year at VFL level playing against men and with VFL coaches, and an extra year of maturity... lots of other things would need to change/improve for this to be viable though.

Good. I've now moved him from my do not want to my happy to get list. I reckon we should be targetting star potential with this selection, even if there is risk involved, rather than safe and likely to be good. Coffield is the one that is yet to make my happy to get list, sounds a bit too outside to be a genuine AFL star. But frankly I have no idea about the draft.

It appears really open on who we'll take at pick 6 at present (at least to us outsiders) and a strong case could be made for half a dozen prospects.

I want them all damn it!
Which is why we should've swapped next years first for a nice pic this year.

Any chance Raynor or Cerra actually slip through?

Be quite nice.

THE KEY CONTENDERS

JARROD BRANDER

Clubs: Bendigo/Allies

Position: Key Defender/Key Forward

Size: 194cm, 89kg

Mick Ablett says: “I’ve got your Jake Lever replacement right here and his name is Jarrod Brander. He’s exciting. He played forward and back across the last couple of years. I think he’s a defender. He proved that in Game 1 of the Under 18s Championships. He’s into the open draft. He’s also an elite cricketer. He can play forward, but I still like him as a defender. He’s got great hands and he really competes when he’s forced to compete. He’s a very smart user of the ball.”

CONNOR BALLENDEN (Do we bid?)

Clubs: Brisbane Academy/Allies

Position: Utility

Size: 199cm, 95kg

Mick Ablett says: “He’s a Brisbane academy product. He’s an elite kick and showed that during the draft combine, where he scored 30/30 in the Nathan Buckley kicking test. They’re going to bid on him, there’s no doubt about it. No one will let Brisbane get away with picking another player at Pick 15. I think his best footy is as a tall defender.”

AARON NAUGHTON

Clubs: Peel/Western Australia

Position: Key Defender

Size: 194cm, 84kg

Mick Ablett says: “This kid is someone who really pushes up the order for a West Australian club (or maybe the club he's barracked for all his life Mick?). He’s an All-Australian out of the Under 18s Champs and he played seven games of league footy at Peel Thunder. He’s that intercept marking player. He can come off and win the ball back for you. He’s rarely beaten in defence.”

OSCAR CLAVARINO (Falls to 38?)

Clubs: Dandenong/Vic Country

Position: Key Defender

Size: 195cm, 86kg

Mick Ablett says: “Twelve months ago, he was considered a top 10 pick. He’s just drifted slightly. He’s very similar to Jake Lever in his ability to intercept mark. He’s a state level 400m and 800m runner, so he’s very accomplished athletically, but it’s that ability to drop off his opponent and fall back which is exciting. He uses the ball really well and he can also close down an opponent. If he does drift out he’ll be a great get.”

SAM HAYES

Clubs: Eastern/Vic Metro

Position: Ruck/Key Forward

Size: 203cm, 93kg

Mick Ablett says: “He’s one of the bigger teasers in the draft. At 200cm, his ability at ground level is outstanding. He very polished at ground level for a guy of his size. His ability to take overhead marks when he’s forward is what teases you — that’s the exciting part. The challenge for him is going to be his endurance and his tank. He’s very limited in that space and he knows that, but he’s a back-to-back All-Australian.

But when you read this... it's hard to look at the Keys

NICK COFFIELD

Clubs: Northern/Vic Metro

Position: Midfield/Half Back

Size: 190cm, 83kg

Mick Ablett says: “He’s had an unbelievable season. He’s a beautiful size and he’s got elite speed. He’s got great balance. He can come off half-back, he’s a good intercept mark and counter-attack player. Has real leadership qualities and versatility as to where he can play.”

He could, but I'm not as confident in his performances on the board. Has the attributes, but his contested stuff and overall numbers is still a slight ? for me.

Pick 6 is a no for me. As with the KPPs, there is an element of uncertainty with Coffield, so I'd go tall if my four favs (Rayner/LDU/Cerra/Dow) have all been taken.
KM, I have it on reasonable advice that the Roos are heavily into Stephenson and Freo are very very likely to take Naughton with 5. One of your favourite 4 could well slip to 6. My bet would be Cerra.

Freo taking Naughton makes sense. They grab a midfielder at 2 and Naughton at 5 and they probably have 2 x12 year players covering the middle and key backman.

So basically Cerra if he slides or one of Balta/Fogarty/Naughton/Brander

Do you know much about how good Will Kelly might be would that push us towards taking say Fogarty for example

Don't know enough about Kelly to say yes/no at this stage.

Just played the one TAC Cup game. Was quiet. Still very much early stages and one to assess next year when he can get a game.

There's as much chance of me or you being selected at #6 as Clavarino. He will be there at #38 and possibly even in our 50s picks.

I was all over Fogarty until Bishop recently talked him down. Now I'm not so sure.
Someone should bop that bishop.

I like that someone mentioned earlier Cerra might slide to us.
If he doesn't well que Cerra Cerra then.
