We did. Four years after the fact...

I could be wrong, but doesn't nominating a player mean that we have to take them in the ND and not the rookie draft?

I seem to recall the reason we didn't nominate Jake Kelly was because we were hoping he would last until the rookie draft... or something?

I could be wrong too but I thought that it means we have first dibs on taking him in one of the upcoming drafts (National or Rookie).

If a bid comes in during the ND we can decide whether or not to match; if no bid comes and he slides to the Rookie we take him with one of our picks there.

Happy to be corrected if this is wrong.

Can someone please confirm - has Bonar had 2 knee recos on the same knee? Or 1 reconstruction and more surgery on it after (like a fix up)? And I can’t seem to find a highlights video off him if anyone has a link. Cheers
My understanding is ACL tear -> reco -> failed graft -> second reco. Same knee. Not sure of graft donor site.

2. The first graft didn’t take properly, tore off, and had to be re-done. The second one seems to have been successful.

I’m fairly sure that by nominating him for the ND we’ve committed to taking him even if no bids come. Much like Daicos last year, if no club bids we’ll select him with our final live pick.

If we’ve nominated him now we have to take him in the ND. If no bids come before our last selection we take him with our last selection (Thomas and Cox of course won’t be read out at the ND). If we wanted to take him as a rookie we would have to wait until after the ND to nominate him if he remains unrecruited until that point.

Same as what happened with Ben Jarman last year.

Technically it shouldn’t happen, but I can definitely see clubs getting spooked by Richards. He has black and white flowing through his veins. He even had his parents write a letter to the Chargers this year requesting they change his week off to a different week so he could play on Victoria Park iirc because it was a life long dream of his to play on that ground.

If he’s drafted by another club I have no doubt he’ll eventually end up at Collingwood (assuming we want him).

I do. If he’s resolute in playing only for Collingwood I’m sure if he’s for us. That sounds extremely temperamental to me and it’s a huge leap from playing at Vic Park to ensuring you spend your career at a specific club. This’ll no doubt be on the nose with the romantics on here, but I don’t think that type of stubbornness is conducive to a successful career.

A penny for your thoughts. Would you consider that to be two instances of an ACL tear or one? He would need to undertake two bouts of surgery and rehab, but is the trauma associated with knee reconstructions mostly a result of the surgery, the act of tearing the ligament or a combination of both? I don’t have the full story behind the failed graft unfortunately so I’m curious as to the medical standing on his knee.

It worked for Wingard.

Good. I reckon that his highlights package was more impressive that most of the highly touted kids.

Same, I hadn't seen him at all before that.

He's a nice size, has a good turn of pace, kicks a goal and repeat efforts look good too. There was a lot more handballing than kicking in the clip, but his kicking mechanics looked fine. Looks far more like his old man than Cal. Short clip & I know they can tend to make players look pretty good, but there's plenty in there to be excited about.

I’m very confident he wanted to stay in SA as opposed to one club. It just happened that Port were in the frame around when he was likely to go. The one guy I can think of was Buckley, but I wouldn’t be putting Richards in the class of Buckley or Wingard myself.

Good stuff. Hopefully no one else bids on him before pick 55 and we can get him for a late ND or rookie pick.
Yeah nice, worst case he gets a bid at:
pick 39 (446 points),
446 - the 197 point FS discount = 249 points remaining
therefore we'd have to use pick 56 (194 points) and 61 (135 points), 194+135 is a total of 329 points
329-249=80 points owed to us
80 points is equal to pick 66

So in summary, even if he attracts a bid straight after our 2nd pick we pay pick 56, and 61 becomes 66.

Really rate him and for a while actually. When people have asked what i would do with each of our picks I have had him slotted into that mid 50's pick. Quick, skilled, break lines and can lower his eyes and make good calls. Still not sure I see him pre 40 but with the move to smaller forwards he presents as a bloke who will be in high demand to combat them.

It’s sound reasoning except worst case for me is a bid around 30. I think that would really rock the boat!

I didn't bother accounting for that as I doubt we'd match the offer if he's bid on before pick 38. I guess that is the real worst case scenario though. I'd prefer not to match the bid at that stage.

Can’t see a bid coming for him that early surely! Nowhere near rated as highly as Callum and even he didn’t attract a bid until 35. Honestly I think it’s more likely going to be another Daicos situation where we just select him rather than having to match a bid.

Has it been confirmed that Thomas is being elevated? We've signed him for a year contract. He has 1 more possible year on the rookie list. Supposedly, rookies won't need to be elevated for an LTI to play next year. Why would we elevate him?

Nowhere near the production of Callum, but appears to have more attributes. He looks pretty slick in that highlights package. In a supposedly shallow draft, it's definitely possible.

Was invited to the combine? Anyone know how he tested?

Do we take him now that Murray has been acquired? I think he’s a better small lock down defender then Murray and that’s a role I think we lack in. There’s a good chance he’ll be gone with before our 4th round, we might have to pounce at 38. All depends if we go KPP at 6 too.

Doubt it. Even in a supposedly shallow draft (which looks like it’s being overstated given the players being talked about at our pick 36) it’s really unlikely that a club is going to reach that far for such a speculative prospect. With guys like Wooler, Clavarino and Petty being discussed at pick 36, any club making such an early bid for Brown had better be sure they want him, because I seriously doubt we’d match.
