He has speed but not the impact or dynamism of a Fogarty, our list is so blah it needs a freak

Yeah. Stephenson would be my pick if you were after that type. Although it seems we're keen on Bonar who is similarly explosive but in a puffed out chest kinda way.

AFL.com had us 4th in the league for clearances and 5th for stoppages.

We were also #1 for contested ball last year. I remember Anthony Hudson mentioning it in the round 23 win over the Dees.

But once they got it then what? How was those f50 entries and f50 efficiency last or 2nd last iirc.

More to a midfield then getting ball and banging it forward. We rarely got smooth connection between the mids and forwards, our mids also struggled to spread into space and get clean take away's/breaks allowing for better and less pressured kicks.

It's our outside work that falls away as evidenced by Wells inclusion turning our win percent on its head.

I don't really care where the freak plays, Fogarty forward, Balta back or Bonar on a wing, we need a freak because despite all those lovely midfield numbers whatever we're doing just isn't working and we are as slow as a wet week over the ground

Pick 6: Nick Coffield
Pick 38: Darcy Figarty
Pick 56: Jaidyn Stephenson
Pick 61: Adam Cerra
Pick 70: Aaron Naughton

Can't believe we've opted not to take Brown.

Disposal efficiency differential from stoppages v our opposition would be interesting. By eye I’d say we’d be at least 5-10% off in that area.

Yeah but imagine how good it could be if it functioned properly ;)

Agreed, but I was responding to a post suggesting that our midfield didn't work particularly well due to personnel and the one-paced nature of the main players. The issues that you are talking about come down to organisation and game plan in my opinion.

I dunno who this Figarty person is, seems like a roughie ;)

If that's right above and we want to go for pure speed then:

Pick 6: Coffield/Bonar
Pick 38: Miller/Petruccelle
Pick 56: Farrell/Daniels
Pick 61: T Brown

Rookie: Paton
Rookie: Oxley

Watch a well drilled team like the hawks around a stoppage. They get the ball & look to release it defensive side of the stoppage almost every single time.
Even when the inside mid has won the ball & is facing his own goal he will turn around to defensive side to release, knowing their guys will be lined up there waiting for it.
We never replicated that nor cottoned on to it when we play them. They always have numbers on the defensive side of a stoppage & usually exit easily.

Teams can't guess where the ball will be released, they have to have a plan to get it out & move it on. I'm not sure if we had one & if we did it wasn't particularly successful. We need to be better drilled in this area.

Forget his height. Consider his playing qualities. Speed, excellent field kick and decision making, great agility and game awareness, defends well and wins a lot of footy. He's everything we want in a half back that gives us delivery and quick transition. As well as run and carry. With future scope for the midfield. Ironically I reckon people would be more excited if he were 186cm, which seems a little contrary to me. He also frees up Maynard for a move on-ball.

I’m w you , Quicky, and his skill set along w his physical attributes of length through upper body and arms would make him an ideal player to assume Pendles tile down the track

We’ve nominated Tyler Brown as a FS in the ND so we’re committed to taking him with our final pick if he hasn’t been bid on already, much like Daicos last year. He cant get through to the rookie draft.

If we nominate and no other team wants him are we obliged to take him?
That is how I am interpreting your post.
Was not aware of this

Correct. Last year Crows and Hawks didn't nominate Jarman so he was available to everyone. But since he didn't get taken they got him for free in the rookie draft. But you nominate him in the ND and you have to take them (or another club does) ie. they are guaranteed to be drafted.

So I take it from that we either rate him or know other clubs rate him and he was never making it to rookies?

I always wondered why in previous years we didn't nominate some potential father sons. as I wasn't aware of this rule.
Now it makes sense.

Yeah there's a couple who have indicated they will bid a later ND pick on him. Given the relative strength of the draft we were never going to risk it.

Why not just allow the draft to unfold and allow these FS prospects get taken where the market dictates? Seems strange that nominating them locks you into what might be an artificially high pick if ultimately they may well have slipped through to the rookie draft.

But you can always pass if they have been bid on.
I think the only way it would become artificially high is another club was willing to take the risk to try to force your hand and nominate. Would be a risky move. If you passed the other club would have effectively used a higher pick than what the player was worth
