Had a look at some of Fogarty's highlights the other day on YouTube. Plenty to like about him. But I agree with KM that he looks like someone likely to play midfield and forward, rather than a pure KPF (admittedly it's based on highlights only but you can see he loves to roam around the ground, and isn't exactly a giant at 193cm).

Funnily enough he might even become a defender. He's been pretty disappointing through the champs but some of his best work has been coming out of defence.

Forgive me if we already have a thread for this but i couldn't find one, feel free to delete if we do have one.

Anyway i don't follow the u18 comp and was wondering who the best prospects are, who's the best fit for us in the first round? Hopefully a top 4 pick.

Knightmare - Snoop?

Sorry mate I only just saw this.

I usually reserve judgement on the draft until the champs are done but we are almost there and my views are forming up.

Pleasingly am warming to this years crop. At the start of the year I actually thought it was pretty thin but am now of the view;

- Elite top end talent is probably not there. ie I dont think there is a Josh Kelly at this stage
- I think the top 20 or so are very good.
- The pool for mine runs to about 40 kids am sure will get taken
- After that I think it really is about how some kids / mature age players perform at the back end of the year
- Overall it will be a good draft but I dont think at this stage would be thinking around 50-60 live selections will see us done.
- Next year draft is sensational. There is some really elite talent in that pool. And they are big boys!

At the moment I think Collingwood will have a selection somewhere around #4. If I were to bet this is about how it would roll to our selection now;

# 1 Lions - Jayden Stephenson. They have an abundance of talls so I dont think they will take one. I think Jayden Stephenson is the best prospect in the pool so think they would go that way if had to pick right now.

# 2 North Melbourne - Wil Sutherland. Not easy to read which way they would go as they have a couple of gaps so I suspect they will just go best player. That probably is Cam Rayner but I think they will find it hard to leave Sutherland behind.

# 3 Carlton - Cam Rayner. If Sutherland was here they would take him for sure. Rayner is explosive and a game changer.

# 4 Collingwood - Happily take any of the above and chances are one would be available. Ideally we would need a key tall but not sure one here for us. hence would look at (in order);

Fogarty - appeals as a utility who can play a Hodge type role. Dont stress about his champs. Has been injured coming in and isnt 100%. Probably my pick at this stage.

Naish - I would put a bid on him here. Has the pace and skill we crave through the middle. Richmond will match it for sure.

Davies - Uniacke - I would seriously consider him as that explosive mid who can kick goals but there are some ? marks on his disposal at times for mine.....and we dont need any more of that

Cerra - Highly touted but 4 might be a reach. Not necessarily for me. Talent to burn and oozes class.

Having said that could make a case for a few others. Think Coffield, OBrien stocks rising and Garner is a talent for sure. Sam Hayes would be one to consider but I want to see him more forward and watch his leading patterns.

Hope that helps.

Will be interesting to see if North and Carlton keep those picks. Could well be that they are both owned by GWS, which could change things a little bit.

Curious on the chances on getting Ballenden. Understand the Lions have rights to him meaning they could match a bid, however I wonder how will they be able to? With their abundance of talls means most agree they will take a smaller type, Stephenson or possibly Fogarty if they see him as a mid/forward rather than a KPF. As it stands their next pick is 18. If Collingwood bids with pick 3-4 is pick 18 enough to match in terms of points? I don't see them being able to get another first rounder with trades, plus add in bids for Naish (Richmond) plus free agency compo picks, that pick 18 could eventually be bumped out to pick 20+. To top it of they are also interested in Charlie Cameron meaning that their pick 18 might even be involved in that trade.

That's interesting. Could tell he looks to create and move it forward with ball in hand.

With guys like this, a little part of me wonders if they will end up being a jack of all trades but a master of none. But I'm no expert.

Awesome, thanks mate.

Still really early but who do you feel out of anyone would partner Moore the best

Sutherland for me.

He's the most natural key forward in the draft.

Ideal as a deep forward and plays with a rare aggression - not only tackling with force but also really getting stuck into opponents if he kicks a goal on them, if he tackles them, he'll keep pushing them after the contest. He just loves the physical side of the game. Has the athleticism, ground level ability. Can take marks at the highest point though can at times be more 2-3 grab than I'd like. Endurance will need to improve but that can happen in an AFL program.

Great info but how come neither Stephenson or Sutherland is in top 10 of your almanac?

because I dont produce one......

I think you mean Knightmare

To be fair (and as I mentioned) the top top 10 players you could throw a blanket over so you will / should see very different views from those that watch a fair bit of junior footy. Going to be a really interesting year as clubs are going to have to cover a lot of players bc it is so open and on the night would expect some drama.

I am not sold on Ballenden. Was a key forward but is now playing best footy behind the ball and ruck. On the positive side means he has versatility but you bid more for genuine A grade forwards and he hasnt dominated in that role as others would have liked.

Sutherland hasn't been on my draft board on the assumption that he would choose cricket. He's inside my top 5 now that he has played u18 champs and is top rated kpp as you'll see when ESPN release my July power rankings.

Stephenson I don't rate inside my top 10. He's someone I would let another club select given where others are rating him. Hands overhead are inconsistent. He's not a hard ball winner. His kicking lacks some consistency. From game to game you get wildly different performances. His game on Friday was clearly his best this season, and wing is clearly his position. That's where I want him playing the rest of the season to mount his case to push into the top 10 on my draft board.

This is a good resource, thanks Knightmare.

From the looks of it there are quite a few highly rated talls. Sam Hayes might be a good option if available, would mean we could have Grundy doing the bulk of the work in the ruck with Moore and Hayes rotating through periodically.
I hate the idea of getting Hayes. He's slow and lumbering, everything Cox currently is for us. Would take him as a first ruck, but as a pure forward no thanks.

FYI, The picks that we currently have are;

Collingwood's first round pick - currently 4
Brisbane's third round pick - currently 36
Brisbane's fourth round pick - currently 54
Collingwood's fourth round pick - currently 57

Collingwood's second round pick was traded to GWS for Hoskin Elliott

Collingwood's third round pick was traded along with Jack Frost to Brisbane for their third and fourth round picks

One certainly might but I think he and Hopper will stay.
That's fair enough. I think Kelly would be silly to leave. Hopper to me seems like he's a few down the line in midfield time. Could look for more opportunities. But obviously you probably have more word.

Edit: Just had a look at Hopper's thread on the trade board and it seems the new rumour is he wants to go to Geelong.
