Well done on an awesome selection with jaidyn....good to see u have the guts to take the risk and draft this fine talent....as someone who knows jaidyn and his family very well....i couldnt be more happy for him...even thou im an essendon supporter...i say this with out bias but ive seen his career unfold in front of my eyes from a scrawny little kid in under 12s ,right thru his tac years to now being selected by one of the biggest clubs in the league...he has strived to be an afl footballer all his life.....and has busted his gut to get there....couldnt be prouder of him....and for once in my life i can say...thanks collingwood.....this kid is a jet

I actually missed most of the draft because my damn son wouldn't fail at high jump at little aths, seemed to go forever, he broke the centre record for u9s though at 1.17 (he cleared 1.20) next year he goes after Caleb Marchbanks u10s record at 1.26, very proud dad here :)

I think he could push for Marchbanks record this season as it's still early, i'd be rapt if he cleared 1.25 this season though , Australian u9 record is 1.40 if my research is correct.
They're (children) not just inconsiderate either, they're ungrateful too

AFL draft 2017 report card: How your club fared in the national draft, winners and losers

COLLINGWOOD

Picks (at start of night): 6, 38, 56, 61

Selections: Jaidyn Stephenson (6), Nathan Murphy (39), Tyler Brown (50)

Collingwood could have found the steal of the draft with Jaidyn Stephenson at Pick 6. There were concerns about his health, but on talent alone he is one of the best players in this year’s draft pool. But if they thought that was good work, getting Nathan Murphy at Pick 39 was even better. Touted as a top 20 talent, the forward was even once linked to the Pies at Pick 6 but somehow slipped to their second selection. A huge win for Nathan Buckley and the recruiting staff, who then matched a bid for father-son prospect Tyler Brown with Pick 50.

Selections before academy and father/son bidding: 6, 38, 56, 61
Selections after bidding: 6, 39, 50
Who they picked: Jaidyn Stephenson, Nathan Murphy, Tyler Brown

Verdict: After some concerns about a heart issue that emerged late in the year, Collingwood stuck to its guns and picked perhaps the most naturally talented player in the pool. Stephenson is a unique talent – he is lightning quick, nimble on his feet and he can kick goals through the midfield. The Pies put plenty of homework into former cricketer Murphy and would be delighted to snare him with their second pick. Port placed a bid on Brown – the son of Pies champion Gavin and brother of current player Callum – which Collingwood was quick to match. Heart concern aside, Stephenson is a terrific pick for the Magpies while Murphy has created plenty of buzz after concentrating on his football full-time. Give a big tick of approval to the Magpies. - Ben Guthrie

It's all about speed, outside run, creativity and the out and out freak ability that we sorely lacked

*We'll do something about the keys later, but the list was looking one paced and it had to be fixed

i just hope his kicking isn't as bad as reported..... we have enough of those on our list...

also... wish we could've added Moore with our fourth pick to replace our token small guy in the forwardline

I hate being a negative nancy. I'm generally one of those hippies who is always positive about life, but I struggle to get excited about this draft. We went for the unusual picks (as per usual), Stephenson is a risk at 6 that we didn't need to take. His kicking is below par.

Nathan Murray is just a project player, who is basically a 50/50.

Tyler Brown has a long long way to go.

Don't get me wrong, I want these players to become hall of famers. However, I struggle to see if any of them are ever going to be above average.

Ps, I hate to f$&king say this but the tigers killed it. Amazing drafting by them. Only change would be CCJ for Taylor. Higgins, CCJ, Balta, Naish and Miller. Maybe the loss of Balme has been underestimated by our footy department? They recognised an issue and sorted it out completely.

Not sure how you can say the Tigers killed it. What gets me is the media experts come up with their own ratings which means nothing as they aren’t full time experienced recruiters.

Balta is a huge risk and Naish is avaerage imo which is why other clubs didn’t rate him.

Stephenson looks sensational! Murphy looks like having a lot of upside. If I had a choice of Balta and Murphy, I would have gone Murphy without hesitation. Anyway, difficult draft to assess until we see how th Elisa come on over the next 2 years.

I’m sure last night was one of the proudest nights of your life so lap it up mate his journeys just begun :thumbsu:

On the draft as a whole it was perplexing for me in one sense with our dearth of up and coming KP talent, but the way it fell it wasn’t a huge disappointment that we didn’t bring one in.

Stephenson adds the speed we lack on the edges, Murphy actually shocked me to be there at that point, Brown picked himself at 50 and at 61 the only option I’d have considered was Butts and he still remains on the board. Whilst it would have been nice to bring one in I’m not a fan of doing so just for the sake of it. They’ll likely take the option in the rookie draft which is effectively an extended national draft now with 1 year contract terms and whoever we selected was never going to be a viable option in 2018 anyway.

What it indicates to me is that we must have a helluva lot of eggs in the Lynch basket! Realistically with Crisp and Varcoe down back plus the recruitment of Murray with the midfield ranginess we added last night we only have one list hole remaining, IMO.

Would be interesting to go back and see clubs that "killed it draft night" and how those hauls actually panned out. My money is on them not looking so good a few years later.

Our best draft of recent times (2014), was seen to be underwhelming minus Moore. Mainly based on the fact that we didn't draft some bigfooty love child.

Whether you lose by a point or 100 it is still a loss mate.

Not feeling the excitement as most are on here to be honest.
Agreed but our backline held up very well this year and I’m expecting it to do the same next. While we are thin in KPP stocks I just think we’ll look back and be happy with this draft. The tall timber just wasn’t really there. If we can bring in some mature age KPP in the rookie draft it will make things look a little better.

You are quite within your rights to disagree with the club’s drafting decisions. For your opinion to be credible though you will have to post your selections at each pick.

Mate all I'm saying is this.. Naughton or Fogarty would have been ideal for us.

Naughton a great fit for a defence that's vanilla.. Dunn and Goldsack.. seriously.. not my cup of tea. Reid playing half season's.

Fogarty would have given us that balance we needed. Moore does look like he gets maulled on his own.. not a proven consistent goal kicker.

Look I'm happy with Stephenson.. but looks like he's the only change we are going to make for next yr. Can't help but feel in my heart that I would have much rather have seen Naughton or Fogarty out there. It just makes the structure of our side look so much better.

Appears as though after trade and draft periods.. nothing has really changed up front or down back. It just baffles me. Unless Buckley has got some serious plans to shift players around.. it's just gonna be the same ol'.

Did you know that Naughton is only 3 cm taller than Scharenberg and Fog only 1cm?
Scharenberg and Langdon are both around the same height. We are actually well stocked for those medium defender types.

The same old with an improvement in skill level, ability to run games out, more experience and better systems behind the ball finishes top 6. IDK if we can see those improvements, but if there’s improvement from within there’s nothing wrong with building the chemistry of the group, IMO.

Fogarty doesn't look like he'll cut the mustard as a forward at AFL level to me. Big bodied mid in time. Which if that ends up being the case, Stephenson is a much better list fit.

If we picked Naughton, I'm certain this thread would just say we reached for a key defender that can't kick.

I understand that.. it could have gone either way.. Stephenson or Fogarty are players we need. We opted for Stephenson. Perhaps next yr.. similar type to the Fog is what we'll target.

Filling in holes step by step.

But my heart was set on seeing a kpp out there next yr. Obviously not gonna happen now.. unless McLarty steps up.. hope he has a great pre season. Massive football growth spurts.

He's quick.. great interceptor of the pill.. and looks like a dasher and creator.. which I love. Looks awkward but from all acts is sufficient enough with his disposal. That's why I'm not a fan of Goldsack or Dunn.. just not creative enough for my liking.. far too vanilla.

The Schaz and Naughton.. would have been nice to see the chemistry between these 2 blokes. I dunno man.. just fill a bit guttered about it.

My excitement comes in wanting to see new talent out there come round 1. Seems as though Tyler and Murphy have some learning to do.. so will not see em next yr.. so really nothing to be excited about to be honest.

Draw attention to our younger types.. Kirby Brown Daicos McLarty etc.. and the progress of our seniors Adams Treloar De Goey.. hopefully they reach another level. That's what I'm excited about.. not necessarily what we've done in this yrs trade/draft. Only one player we can look at there.

Most people seem to think that Stephenson is the better player.

Nice, thanks for jumping on and sharing, spoke well too after he was selected. Seems to have a handle on things.

I like Stephenson.. there's a real air of confidence about him. No nonsense straight to the point honest responses. Definitely seems sure of himself. And has a steely look. His reaction after being drafted impressed me as well.

This guy looks like he's gonna work his ass off.

You can't ask that question.. both play different positions.

Like asking was Pele a better player than Beckenbauer. It's a silly question.

Was Pele a better player than Maradona makes more sense.
It’s not a silly question if you believe we should take the best player over list need. Personally I’m very happy with the selection.

Let’s not get carried away; Naughton is 194cm and only 17yo. And more importantly he plays like a KPP.

I am as well.. not saying I'm not. I'd have been more excited at the prospect of seeing either Fogarty or Naughton out there. That's all. Not only excited watching the player.. but also excited about our structure.

Absolutely looking forward to watching Stephenson tear it up as well.. so don't get me wrong.

I should have left for Rye by now.. working on the holiday home. Instead I'm posting on here.. as much as I enjoy it.. it does take too much of my time when I'm really getting into it.

Hence why I asked the chief to delete my Act. Can't resist the temptation of getting involved on here. Seems as though the bloke ain't doing his job.. asked him friggen well over a mth ago.

Unbelievable re!

I recall the front page of the Herald Sun a number of years ago (maybe it was the back page), with a massive spread and photo about the Tigers new "Fab 5". Deledio (give them that one), Richard Tambling, Danny Meyer, Adam Pattison and Dean Polo.

Its no good going too early on the calls about who killed it. Plenty of lower ranked players will excell, and plenty of top picks fail.
