I was surprised, but then I wasn't. He's the kind of player that if you have a need for a number one ruck, fantastic. But if you're looking for a ruck/forward he's probably not quite what you want. If you have a couple of mobile key forwards yeah, but if you're a team with less mobile forwards, you cannot really afford to have Hayes there unless he's a number one ruck. I know we liked him and had Murphy not been there I think we would have considered him, but you couldn't really have him and Cox in the same team IMO. Port could use Hayes and Ryder in tandem, but Hayes is more a successor to Ryder, and yeah, a great get.
Sorry if this has already been covered, but apart from Kreuger, McLean and Butts, are there any other potential talls to rookie on Monday?

I don’t get the excitement about Hayes. Ruckmen need physical presence even if their physique is going to take years to get up to speed. Hayes has height and is willing enough, even fairly mobile... but he doesn’t have enough impact on the contest even at U18 level and drops way too many marks, juggling a good many more which should be clean grabs.

Not a great deal. I would not be surprised if we didn't take any and sucked it up. If we did it Butts, the other one we were keen on was Appleby so I reckon it's one of them.

lynch will be a trade. suns will match any offer imo.
Might be in ours and GC best interest to sort it out as early as possible.

If GC don't match, the AFL will give them a pick straight after their first (hopefully that's pick 2) and possibly a mid or end of first rounder. If this and compensation is sorted early, GC have pick 1 and 2, they may go for the King twins as a package to keep them both at the club and then we can trade in pick 3, pick up Lukiosis and then have a spine of:
Mclarty
Moore
Treloar
Lynch
Lukiosis

Problem solved.

Oh, yes, because clubs are just going to happily trade out top 3 picks next year.....

Yes and no i dont think there were any huge standout forwards screaming out to be selected. Word is fogarty was relieved to be staying in adelaide. If clubs had the inkling he wanted to be in adelaide then they stay away. Stepheneson was too good to go past (i rate him higher than brander) as was murphy at 39. They might have their eye on a number of talls next year and thought we'll take the best players available and get a tall next year. The other thing is these boys aren't short being 188cm and 189cm which is important if we want to have short players like daicos and brown.

Agree they are over the 185 CM's so they not short people or anything can add some Height to the Midfield

Port would be absolutely thrilled to get Hayes so late. Some really amazing sliders this year.

'sliders' in a supposedly ordinary draft. It will be interesting to see how some of these sliders actually perform. I think clubs generally get it right with sliders.

Not so much a top 5 going in the top 15, but those players sliding to 30/40 +

Hine got a little lucky with Murphy still available at 38, who would he have picked if he wasn’t? As all the good kpp’s had gone.
Interested in everyone’s thoughts on who that would have been.

By that logic Murphy is destined to be a dud.

Brody Mihocek
Sam Collins

Maybe. Although I don’t think too many clubs were actually into him apart from the Pies.
Sydney and the Dogs reportedly had interest. I think he’d be a Bulldog now if Ed Richards hadn’t been available at their second pick.

I think most in the media ranked him around 30. It seems that the strength in the Collingwood interest propelled him much higher in the final week. Obviously he was only rated by a couple of clubs. If both had a second pick much higher he would have been taken

Good to see Issac Q one of them.

Reckon next year will be a good year to be a wooden spooner.

That’s bad. We don’t won’t him to be rated top 10 will cost us our first rounder!

Dekka already has two 2018 3rd rounders set aside for he and Will Kelly! Would be ironic if in the end those picks couldn’t get it done.
