looks pretty obvious now that...

1. As we couldnt land Lever, we dont rate any other KPP's on the trade / FA table highly enough atm. Or simply can't attract them.
2. We highly rate at least 2/3 KPP or big bodied players that we believe will still be there at 6 in the draft (Fogarty, Balta, Brander, Stephenson?), and;
3. We dont currently have much excess funds - especially if the plan is to go all out for a Lynch or Patton next year - so can only really afford to pick up a newbie KPP on minimum coin for 2 years, until players like Ben Reid & Goldsack retire.

Would love to know who Hine & the club rates so highly...
Maybe its Fogarty who could be the future prototypical player, ala Fyfe or Dusty, and has only slipped b/c of injury...
Maybe its Balta, as the most athletic big man in the draft, with a high intensity game & loads of potential to become a gun CHB
Maybe its Stephenson, for the same reasons as Fogarty, or
Maybe its Brander, who the club feel would be a bargain at 6, and will nullify the need to recruit a Tom Lynch type, at a high cost.

Fascinating stuff... just hate how long it actually actually takes for the draft to take place.

What do you think of Bonar? I've got a feeling in my bones.
Going up my board with a rocket. Have him around 8-10 at moment.

Long been on radar but has come back really well and the All Star game showed his capability around the stoppages. At Stingrays I'd seen him do most of his work around forward half which was good but he was very impressive on GF day.

I've heard it said a few times that his weakness is that he doesn't have a set position but I think it's a massive strength tbh - I can see him being an above average AFL player everywhere except the ruck. But potentially he could be a brilliant inside mid with his strength and clean hands which is where I'd hope he ends up long term. In the shot/mid term he's good enough and versatile enough to plug our leaks whether as a mid sized defender or third forward.

He just seems to me to be a much safer option than many of the others expected to go outside the top 2-3 many of whom have significant weakness imo, but he also potentially has a very high ceiling. At worst he's going to be a decent AFL player, at best he could be brilliant. Players like that seem rare in this draft imo.
No question going to be be very good. He is a natural footballer, he's competitive and reminds of a bigger bodied Hodge. At the start of this year he was probably pick 1-2 and his body has let him down. Any of he bonar, Coffield, Cerra, Stephenson fine with me.

There is that small rumour doing the rounds about that three way deal involving Collingwood, Adelaide and Brisbane. If there's any truth to it at all then reading between the lines I think Adelaide want a selection before our first.

If that's the case I'd suggest they think Fogarty is on our radar. I'll be an interested onlooker in that one and would have Fogarty favoured at 6 if we take it to the draft, but if we get involved in a Schache/ Cameron deal shuffling is back to 16 or 18 it suggests to me we're going in a different direction.

I really like Coffield's skill and composure. Not short either at 190cm.

We have Adams, JDG and Maynard who are hard nuts, plus we will get several more years of footy out of Pendles and more from Sidebottom. WHE and Treloar have pace although we do still seem slow at times, so someone like Saad would be very useful. Coffield would give us that class and composure and potentially a long term replacement for Pendles, or play as a ball distributing general off half back, if he makes the most of himself.

This flies in the face of what I've been saying about our need for KPPs (and as such I would be plenty happy to pick up Balta for example) but if Hine really thought Coffield was the best available at 6 I reckon we could do worse.

Not going to mention Lynch, lest I be lynched.

I think Coffield is a ripper mate and has potential top class midfielder written all over him if you ask me.

soft spot for Carlton out of pity
If the clubs adamant that they want to keep pick 6, it simply means that they have their eye on a talent(s) they believe to be a better prospect than the risk of Stringer, Schache, etc. Remembering the club has said that they were not interested in trading in said players and that pick 6 is off the table. I think that that in itself is something to get a little excited about.

Coffield been compared to Burgoyne and Pendles in draft profiles. Pretty good comparisons. Has star midfielder written all over him. Could do lot worse at 6. We do need talls though :/

Is the allstar game watchable online or is it a foxtel thing?

I could be wrong but my mail out of Collingwood is that they are fixed in pick 6 but I have no idea who it is.

I have heard the rumour about Schache in a 3 way trade and it makes some sense but the issue how do collingwood deliver it.

I wouldn't want Scharenberg involved but it's hard to see how he's not. It's certainly the simplest solution and if he has indicated to the club he will go next year then you'd pull the trigger. Otherwise getting Broomhead, Aish our pick 36 and / or 2018 picks could maybe solve it.

In all this also have to wonder where it leaves Mason Cox. If we did get Schache would we look at trading Cox for a pick from Lions and then package that up with some other stuff. It's an about turn but it's an option I would think about. You could sign Spencer as a back up.

One kid from Adelaide I'd like is Wigg. Just what we need.

The other issue is the drums are still beating around Lynch.

This list doesn't excite me and I know nothing about these kids. All I know is they don't excite me.
Balta is potentially the X factor key we need
Petty is a marking machine and may not even be there at 36 so you'd go Clavarino or Sam Taylor according to Knightmare
Tyler Brown... pedigree
Murray... speed
Paton... Speed
