Maybe - but I fear another Menzel outcome, and would look elsewhere.
Unless we get him at 36.
Yeah, but if they hadn't stuffed it the 1st time he'd only have had 1. Seems to have rebounded from it pretty well which doesn't suggest Menzel level propensity for further ACLs, well no more so than any other player.

Not going off reviews, only footage. He reminds me of a more agile Kepler Bradley.
By position his ball winning is elite for a jnr, IMO.

I'm starting to cool a bit myself though as I invest more time into looking at others and I have concerns over his Aliir Aliir/ Harry O'Brien attitude to taking the game on. I don't know if that's a good enough 1 wood any more.

I like him still, but I don't know how well that fits with us given McLarty's skill set.

The current number 1 intercept possession player per game in the AFL? Not too shabby! Melbourne will not regret their payment for him.
For 2 first rounders he better be the difference for a flag... which is exactly what I expect from Treloar when he gets his shot at the big dance... he turns on the after burners and scorches us a flag

Our last 2 first rounders have a lot of work to do to get us a flag. Fair to say I’d swap our 2 for their one.

Balta worries me.

He is a utility rather than a KPP at this stage and from what I can tell, he can’t find the ball.

Unless we’re very confident he could make it as a tall defender playing on the opposition’s best or second best key forward, I’d stay away.
He's 195cm, 95kgs with excellent pace. Physically he's about perfect for a key position defender. If we're intent on drafting a key position defender then the only option is Balta imo.

You'd want to have some confidence Balta can develop into a forward to pay the price. He has some nice qualities to suggest he can. I can understand the concern though.

I dont think at this stage he is a forward. When I watch him forward he has a habit of getting lost. I think the group think (which I agree with) is at this stage he should be started as a key back and in that case I see Brander as the better option. His work rate I think is excellent and I reckon he's done well this year with a lot of challenges put in front of him. He is more capable forward than Balta and equally good in defence. Having said that Balta excites me. His scope is massive but a club is going to have to back their system in.

I think Bonar can get his fitness to the right level you are looking at a big strong contested ball winner in the middle who has some speed on the outside and can hurt offensively.
I liked the idea of Collins then read up on his AFL form from his last couple of games. He got well beaten. That concerns me. I think there was a reason he wasn't playing. But again not a bad depth option.

Elite for a junior key defender? Because I’m not sure he actually defends very well, and as I mentioned earlier if you’re drafting him at that spot it’s to play on one of the opposition’s best key forwards.

Otherwise it’s like drafting a taller Tyson Goldsack and saying “his ball winning is elite for a tall defender”, but he doesn’t defend well enough to play on the Josh Kennedy/Jesse Hogan/Charlie Dixon types, and as opposed to a Coffield lacks the agility and precision kicking of a quality half back.

I know this is a long-winded post, but as with the problem of Josh Fraser who was a big man who played like a smaller, quicker, more nimble player... generally you want your big guys to play like big guys, first and foremost.

And if you were confident of getting Lynch next year you'd definitely go hard for a key back
