No good having pace if you then can't deliver the pill lace out.

We have pace in Treloar but he cant hit the side of a barn from 10m away.

They need to have reasonable pace and have a decent foot skills.
That's what I'm expecting. A player who can run and hit targets.

Allies cause an upset. Rayner kicks 3 and states his claim for number 1.

Brander kicks 3 as does Hughes for the Allies. Been liking Hughes, think he is moving his way up the draft ranks.

The more I watch the champs the more I think there will be some very good footballers out of this draft.

yeah i hate seeing people put his name forward too, oooh look he is 200cm must be a KPF.

No he is a ruck more then a forward.
He doesn't have that forward talent like Wright did in his draft year imo. He'll be a very good ruck who can float forward though.

Hine couldn't pick a tall to save himself.
He got 2 10 year players, one of which was AA last time he picked a KPP in the top 10. He can pick them, he just doesn't seem to want to for some reason.

He was 193cm at the start of the season the champ callers have inaccurately been reporting the 192cm. For all we know could be taller given the time has past. Also you can still play KPP at 193cm if you know how and when to lead.

Cameron, Kennedy, J.Reiwoldt, NReiwoldt, Patton, Hawkins, Walker, Franklin, none are 200cm KPPs all the old school height range 192-197cm still in todays game.

Too many recruiters have a hard on for the 200cm fwds yet none of them have ever reached the goal kicking heights of the KPP who are 192-197cm bracket. Trying to reinvent the wheel largely due to Kurt Tippett early form at the Crows, now Lynch at GC 199cm being the prototype.

Article from Feb 28th.

With Fogarty he has yet to convince me he is a natural key forward. Watching him last week v Metro. He had just the 4 disposals, 1 mark playing out of the goal square. He just wasn't involved.

I expect Fogarty to be a utility. He'll play forward, midfield, back. Be a gap filler and if things go right, mutli-position impact player.

Jarrod Brander is our man - Sutherland overrated due to KM hype. I don't see it.
Sutherland was hyped without KM. Recruiters are all over him hoping he chooses footy over cricket.

I'm just saying Sutherland would have very little wrap on here if KM wasn't so keen on him
People read other people's reports and watch the championships so they can form their own opinion too. Sutherland had a quiet game today but has shown glimpses from limited games to show that if he does choose football he can become one of the better KPP of this draft.

I agree he has a lot than can be worked with, but if we have a top pick when I suspect we will, Brander has shown so much more than Sutherland and should definitely be the target.

Fair enough. I'm on the other side of the coin, I love the upside which he brings. He can play the deep forward and push up into the midfield.

I think if Sutherland had played the same amount of games as Brander we wouldn't even be discussing taking Brander. They have both had their inconsistencies and at the end of the day if we end up with either of them it will be a good time for the club.

The comparison needs context though. Brander has been a part of the TAC and GWS academy system for years. Sutherland has reportedly never even done a proper preseason and has only really just begun to consider footy as an option ahead of cricket. The untapped potential in Sutherland is sky high, which is something Hine gets moist over too (see JDG and Grundy). I reckon he'll be all over Sutherland if he's available.

Only in terms of being versatile that he has played very well in def, mid and fwd positions. Not a plays like comparison.

Cheers for the clarification.

Never said he was *only* a pure fwd.

I agree he will become a versatile impact player which includes in the forward line.

Also wouldn't be making a finite judgement based on last weeks game, the week before he kicked 2 goals in the 1st Q before the other team took control of the game in the 2nd and 3rd so they threw him into def in the last and he was named in the bests. He is also carrying a knee injury which watching him last week seems to be limiting him.

He is 1 of about 5 players I'd be happy to land.

If we end up with pick 5-7 will any decent KPF be left?

Are we better off chasing Wright and giving GC that pick? We get him entering his prime, we know he's good and we don't have wait the 3-4yrs for a key tall to develop.

You're right it is one game, and it's about the big picture.

I'm still undecided as to where Fogarty is best. I'm yet to see if he is a master of any position, let alone a master of the key forward craft.

For now he's really just an impact utility with scope to become more - hopefully.

At the end of the day in making a draft choice, it's about putting those power rankings together and determining who the best available player is at each selection and making a call based on that.

Only Rayner has been consistent and used mainly as a go to fwd but he is only 187cm and will become a midfielder in time. He is still 17 too. Arguably the best player in the draft.
But is Wright gettable now? Isn't he contracted until 2019?
