Gary Buckenara: "Everyone will say I’m biased but the Hawks have done it again...I rate Hawthorn as one of the winners of the draft".

That’s bad. We don’t won’t him to be rated top 10 will cost us our first rounder!

Dekka already has two 2018 3rd rounders set aside for he and Will Kelly! Would be ironic if in the end those picks couldn’t get it done.

If he is really that good and expected top 10 (which, barring further improvement, i don't think he is at this stage), why wouldn't be then trade our 1st pick?

Just worked out port only bid on brown so they could get barry
How did you get to that conclusion?

Port took Kane Farrell immediately following their bid for Brown and we passed at pick 60, which was before Port's next picks.

I think out first round pick next year will be reserved for Lynch ;)

Another possible solution to our lack of KPP would be to make the most of Sutherland and Murphy friendship and sign Sutherland as a cat B rookie in 3 years time. How dirty would other clubs be then!
I don’t think he’ll be leaving cricket. Has a very bright future ahead of him for the Bushrangers.

He’s every chance to be in the test team within that timespan barring injury. I won’t hold my breath on him returning to footy that’s for sure!

He is so far up their backsides he must eat their polyps for breakfast lunch and dinner.

The person that gives sos a run as most over rated bore in football.

(SOS still the worst over rated one, buckenara second. But massive flogs the pair of them)

From my cricket people they say hesafeal chance of test level and regularly.
And T20 etc
So don't think Football will win out.

Have a feeling there's quite a bit of mayo on the story.

If it was Emma Quayle saying it, I'd say the mayo was just a dollop.
It's Cherny so he's churned the mayo right in.
Ofcourse the club will be feeding the line.

That said, I had no doubt Murphy was highly considered by us and if we had say about pick 24 still, Murphy would have got the call except Maybe BALTA being available? Or if somehow Naughton was available he might also be in the frame.

So Murphy was very high but.....

But he's still high value. And we've got Murphy.

So we end up with two real shots at quality ten year players.
And that is all you can ask for.

I don't know why People Read the Crap he Writes for the Toliet Paper Newspaper?
Good point.

He's such a sycophant!
And a mega flog to boot.

Because i think we would of grabbed barry at 60 and used our pick 70 for brown...port wanted barry and knew 100% we would match
Very clever by port

With only 3 picks in the draft I'm not sure how he wanted us to fix all our problems.

He's definitely got a bias to Hawthorn and a hatred to Collingwood.

It's becoming pretty obvious now if it wasn't already.

Pick 70 was confusion by Hine in an attempt to soften the Murray trade. We never delisted the extra player required to take 70 into the draft meaning our only four picks were 6, 38, 56 and 61. Plus Hine had said pre-draft we'd only be selecting three players.

Ultimately 56 was used to match Port's bid for Brown and we passed at 61 (adjusted to 60 during the draft) with Port selecting Barry two picks after our pass. The way things played out we could have had both Brown and Barry.

To take matters out of our hands Port would have needed to select Barry at pick 50 or earlier.

Will be interesting to see how murphy goes if his a spud at 39 will show how incompetent hine is as he would of grabbed him at 6
What if he's not a "spud?"

Gary Buckenara - I think Collingwood did OK. Whislt claiming other clubs would walk away rapped.

I believe, based on how a club feels as in their recruitment team, Collingwood's recruitment team would have been the biggest winners, look at the broadcast they all looked like they had a lap dance each of Miranda Kerr.

We will know in five-ten years time, but at this stage Collingwood got two guys they rated inside the top ten plus Tyler Brown. So therefore based on objective facts, at this point in time the Collingwood recruiting team have lucked out, and probably walked away the happiest of all recruitment teams.

This draft will make or break Hine. If Murphy turns out the goods, much better than those taken before him then he'll look the goods. If Murphy flails at AFL level and most of those selected -38 thrive, he'll look pretty badly as will our hole recruiting team. As it is I'll back them in at this stage.

If he ends up that good then he's made a good financial decision. The money to be made over a long international career is huge, given the coin in 20/20 here and especially in India.

Must have been a tough choice for both of them.
