Well done to Stephen Daniel who toke control back of his team after Rocket apparently hijacked it in the 1st quarter to run away with a comprehensively win
Suns 21.15.141 Redland 10.4.64
See Bods GCS Fan really really knows his shit. I guarantee he's been watching the game for 30+ years.

Darcy Mac needs to come back in. But only if they're willing to give him a run in the middle. Has way too much talent to be left stranded in the forward pocket all game. Needs to be part of the rotation

Agreed. Gives me the shits when a player performs really well in the 2s, then they get played in the seniors in a different position. Next minute they're dropped for underperforming. NO SHIT SHERLOCK

Brodie as well - recruited as a pure inside mid, performs exceptionaly in the JLT, finally cracks the team mid year and gets played forward not mid, then dropped after 2 games. Stupid. At least rotate them through for quarters

That's because the bloke Coaching is doing so to save his job in the short term. Development is not in his interests. Number 1 is to stay on the GC in 2018.
But that has backfired anyway.

Gee there's not many blokes left in the 2's that I'd like to see back in the 1st's.

No Brooksby or MacPherson - both in Cairns.
Hallahan, Brodie , Scheer - main mids
Down to 11 listed.....

Suns win 98 to 40. Hallahan had 36 disposals, Brodie 30. Schoenfeld kicked 3
Academy support was great - some good talent in that bunch. Led from start to finish .....
Furthers the case that we should build our own team around locals. 3 Ex Palm Beach players named in NEAFL bests - 3 other PBC Academy boys also played.
Think this will get more Gold Coast locals watching the Suns....
Palm Beach Lions won all grades today in QAFL comp...

Yeah that's the way
Go Palm Beach!!!

PBC High School has a Girls academy too now and I have only seen them briefly when walking past Salk Oval walking the dog however I can report they have maybe about 40 girls in the squad and some have pretty good skills.
It's a great set up down my way.

Suns have high hopes for teenager Dirk Koenen after his impressive NEAFL debut

A ROOKIE originally from the Magnetic Island Magpies has caught the attention of the Gold Coast Suns after an impressive NEAFL debut.

Dirk Koenen, now 17, played in defence for the Suns reserves who had a big win against struggling Southport at Fankhauser Reserve on Saturday, taking the points by 14.14 (98) to 6.4 (40).

Coach Steve Daniel was encouraged by the ability of Koenen, who was a member of the Suns Townsville academy when he was playing for the Hermit Park Tigers seniors.

“He was really good, he had a fantastic debut in defence,” Daniel said.

“We were more than happy with him because he had 16 disposals and seven marks.’

Koenen first came to prominence when awarded the Troy Clarke Scholarship, in memory of the late Brisbane Bears player who died suddenly in 2013 at the age of 44.

The youngster had an interrupted early season when he broke a collarbone but is now set to continue to develop with the Suns in the NEAFL for the rest of the season.

Suns academy manager Jason Torney said Palm beach-Currumbin High student Koenen “has talent”.

Other bright signs for the Suns, who are set for a rebuilding phase if AFL results are any guide, were three local products Jesse Joyce, Max Spencer and Brad Scheer, all PBC Lions junior products.

Daniel said he was thankful to get the win that keeps the Suns right in the race for the title.

It was important, Daniel said, to get the win when they had fewer listed players to call on than normal.

“We’ve been averaging 16 or 17 listed players most of the year and all of a sudden we had only 11 for Saturday,” he said.

“And you go in with 12 academy kids and you have to change your game plan.”

Although the Sharks made a match of it, getting to within a goal during the second and third quarters but falling off badly in the final stanza when the Suns kicked 5.5 to 1.1.

Southport’s attack was kept to just 2.2 after half-time.

Former Sun Andrew Boston was the pick of the Sharks, along with defender Nick Crowley and another ex-Sun Seb Tape in the middle.

Love seeing the PBC boys coming through.
