NFL 2017 - NFL Draft

My top 5 picks today:
1. Foster to the niners at 31, as long as he's not drugged up. Same could count for Conley to the raiders at 26, as long as he's not a rapist.
2. McCaffrey to the panthers at 8, best running back in this draft, top 3 receiver in this draft, best returner in this draft.
3. Barnett to the eagles at 14, as previously mentioned I'd rate him very close to Garrett, production over upside always.
4. Hooker to the colts at 15, should've been a top 10 pick.
5. Allen to the redskins at 17, should've been a top 10 pick.

My bottom 5 picks today:
1. All three quarterbacks being massively overdrafted - each about half a round to a round too early. At similar picks next year could grab Darnold (future HoFer), Josh Allen, and Mason Rudolph, all far and away better than Trubisky, let alone Mahomes and Watson.
2. Ross to the bengals at 9 - he can run fast in a straight line, that's about it. Too much stock placed in 40 time as usual.
3. Davis to the titans at 5 - he would've still been there at 18, and possibly even at their second round pick.
4. Peppers to the browns at 25 - one interception in 27 college games, enough said. Versatility =/= good.
5. All three tight ends being massively overrated, they'll bust.

My top 5 guys still to be selected:
1. Forrest Lamp
2. Obi Melifonwu
3. Davis Webb
4. Joe Mixon
5. Zay Jones

Ross does have an amazing TD to catch ratio, so amazingly fast.

Given the bengals have AJ Green being double teamed, and Tyler Eiffert in the middle requiring alot of attention, JOhn Ross could run wild in single coverage, especially zone.

Would be happy for Forrest Lamp to light up the trees in 'Sota. He won't last though.

Also watching Mixon with interest. Think he will be a hell of a player if he gets a clean slate somewhere.

Think the biggest concern is his long injury history and the fact he weighs nothing and is likely to get injured again.

The Vikings draft team must be licking their lips at the prosects that are still on the board and at the moment the top ranked players left all look pretty good fits from a needs perspective:

RB - Cook, Kamara, Mixon
OT - Robinson
OG - Lamp, Dawkins
TE - Everett
DT - McDowell, Brantley

I'm pretty sure the Vikings won't go with a DB in the 2nd. but there are a bunch of highly rated ones left as well.

I was thinking the same thing (re Lamp) - maybe Spielman will trade up for Lamp as we have two 3rd and two 4th round picks to move up if he wants to.

I think it depends on what the Packers and Seahawks do. Both could take an OL given the fact that the Packers lost T.J. Lang and the Seahawks obvious OL needs.

On Mixon the Vikings have shown interest in him, but I don't know if ownership has signed off on drafting him.

Not denying he's fast, but he's very small and won't make any contested catches and he's injury-prone, MCL in 2014 and ACL in 2015. Everybody already knew he was fast, but he jumped from a second-round prospect to a top 10 pick based on his 40 time, an incredibly overrated statistic - just a gimmick to hype up speed, so many other factors affect NFL speed - pads, opponents, routes, etc. He could very well be a good NFL receiver, but I see a lot of his career average per season being something like 30 catches, 600 yards, 8 TDs from 10 games played with the rest off with injury, which I wouldn't warrant as a top ten pick.

We did just sign Jahri Evans so it's highly unlikely we go OL until at least the end of the 4th now. We did draft Spriggs last year in the 2nd as well. We have other needs compared to OL this early.

I'd be stoked if Melifonwu ended up in Seattle.

And the fact you can jam him at the LOS and pivot a Safety over to his side of the field.

I'm looking forward to seeing how his 40 speed translates to gameday.

Would be very risky to pivot a safety towards his side of the field, if AJ Green and Tyler Eiffert are on the other side

Yeah I don't put Mixon up there as a concern for us unless he really slips. We have to many other needs.

Unpopular opinions

1- John Ross is a fantastic pick at 9. He is a weapon that doesn't compare to anybody else. Yes, he is a one trick pony- but at his speed, he only needs the ball a couple of times per game to make a big difference. Because the Bengals have AJ Green and a couple of good tight ends, Ross is a luxury they can afford.

2- So happy Davis Webb didn't go in the first round. I wouldn't pick him even if I had a pick in round 7. The guy is awful. Yes, he has a decent arm. But, he is not accurate with it. I saw him play on a couple of occasions and the game against Wyoming sticks out in my mind. His inaccuacy and inability to hit a long target (other than a Wyoming safety), cost California a game they really should have won against an inferior team.

3- Ramczyk is perhaps a round too early. He is a top player, but, he was never the best Badgers offensive lineman. I feel that he was covered by the best O-Line in college football and his mature body allowed him to shoot up the draft boards. He's an awesome story and I can't not root for him being a Badger myself, but, I just don't think he's a first round talent. On the other hand, Beau Benzshawel (another O-Lineman from UW) will be a top 4 draft pick in 2018/19 depending on when he comes out.

4- Another weird one given I am a Badgers fan, but if TJ Watt's name was TJ Scott, he wouldn't be picked in the first two rounds. Biegel was better for us. Watt is a playmaker so I can see why Pittsburgh took a leap on him, but his production has been pretty minimal to date. Aside from the pick-6 against Purdue (one of the finest interceptions at close range I have seen)- he has never jumped off the screen for me. But, draft's are about projecting a player in three-five years time, not today- so while it's not a horrible pick, nor even a bad pick, I just don't think he projects to be a first round talent at the moment. But, two Badgers in the first round, fantastic day.

5- Mahomes will prove to be a solid pick-up for the Chiefs. Best quarterback in the draft (doesn't say a lot) by quite a margin.

6- Taco Charleton is a fantastic pick-up for the Cowboys, his lateral movement and agility is superb.

TT has always found good OL players in the 4th, but all the talk on Lamp worries me, because i dont see him when we could use the pick on D for better value. and Murphy will move inside.

I'd be stoked if Melifonwu ended up in Seattle.

I was very surprised when you traded out pick 31 as I was dreading the thought of Rubin Foster joining your D line . I though he had a Peter Carroll feel to him .
SF got a great pick up on FOSTER.

I wasn't surprised as we have traded out of the 1st round 4 of the last 5 years and it was only dropping 3 spots while gaining an extra pick. They probably thought about Foster but were put off by his injury concerns.

I did use the word COULD draft an OL. I agree that the Packers are more likely to go on the defensive side of the ball with pick 33.

Looking at draft needs more closely it's likely that the Jags will be in the mix to look at OL with their pick at 35 which means it will be a pretty slim chance that the Vikings would being able to trade up for either Forrest Lamp or Cam Robinson.

LOL

The Cowboys had first-round grades on 18 players and Taco Charlton was not one of them, according to Stephen Jones. As the second round looms, the Cowboys have one player with a first round grade still on their board.
