NFL 2017 - NFL Draft

I’ve read the police report of the incident, in which a 23-year-old woman claimed that a male she identified as Conley had sex with her without her permission in a room of the Westin Hotel in Cleveland on April 9. She was transported to a hospital, where a rape kit exam was administered. The Cleveland Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Unit is investigating and had no further comment. It’s unlikely the case will reach any sort of conclusion this week. That makes it pretty hard for a team wanting to know if Conley is going to be charged with a sex crime to draft him without that knowledge.
******************************************
Went straight to the hospital and then to the police, is working with the police currently, submitted a rape kit and is willing (so she says) to take the stand.
Cleveland police has not dismissed the charges and will interview Conley on Monday.
Ughh......at this stage, this women seems more legit then the Winston accuser. Not how you go about a money grab.

In the case of Conley, it seems, there is enough evidence that McKenzie was comfortable enough to draft him. Some of that evidence, as Conley mentioned in his statement, includes surveillance video that disputes the initial claim of the accuser. The claim of the accuser is that she first met Conley in an elevator, who then asked her to participate in a foursome and later r*ped her in a hotel room.

But according to TMZ Sports:

“The woman accusing Gareon Conley of rape was friendly with the NFL prospect at a bar roughly 25 minutes before they ended up in a hotel room together … and TMZ Sports has the video.

The footage shows Conley leaving the Barley House in Cleveland around 2:20 AM on April 9th … with the accuser and her female friends following closely behind. At one point the accuser reaches out and touches Gareon’s back.

A few minutes later, Conley has his arm around another woman in front of the bar and the accuser catches up from behind and grabs his arm. Gareon looks back and appears to hold her hand.

The video is critical because it appears to contradict what the accuser told police — that she first met Conley in an elevator at the Westin hotel around 2:45 AM. “
So the video, which TMZ has on their website, disputes the claim made by the accuser. And although that does not necessarily clear Conley of any wrongdoing that may have taken place later in the evening, it does discredit her initial statement. Which naturally leads to questions about how truthful the rest of her statement is.

To help prove his innocence, Conley volunteered to take a polygraph test.

A rape kit was administered, and Conley also said he will provide DNA to be tested. Still, despite all of this, the Raiders have and will face some blowback for the selection of Conley.

If I can try to guess what happened....

She consented, they all went up to have sex and party, but at some point while heckin'g her, she didn't like it anymore and wanted him to stop, but he didnt. Like half-way thru the act after consenting, and he didn't stop.

If that ends up true...Conley should've admitted to consensual sex not "never touched her".

Or he never had sex with her. He sounds eager to provide DNA.

But a rape kit will definitely show sex was had or not. So, why did she insist on it, if it will show no sex occurred? The key is like you said, if there's a DNA match or not. She may have had sex that night with someone else prior.

To focus on another draft matter....

------------------

In Week 13, the Bears beat the 49ers in a game that seemed utterly meaningless: Chicago entered the game 2-9, San Francisco entered the game 1-10, and neither team had anything to play for.

But it turned out to be a very meaningful game: The 49ers finished the season 2-14 and had the second overall pick in the draft, while the Bears finished the season 3-13 and had the third overall pick. If the 49ers had beaten the Bears, those records and draft orders would be reversed. And the Bears’ trade up from No. 3 to No. 2 for quarterback Mitchell Trubisky never would have happened.

As it turned out, the Bears sent their third-round pick this year, their fourth-round pick this year and their third-round pick next year to San Francisco just to move up to a draft spot that would have belonged to the Bears if only the Bears hadn’t beaten the 49ers in Week 13.

Alright...I will just make the following comments:

I find it fascinating and telling that this FO refuses to make any selections in the top 15 of the draft. The pick at #1 selected itself and required zero thought, time or analysis. In two years, this regime has refused to make a call at #2, #8 and #12. That, gentlemen, speaks for itself.

You CANNOT win in this league without elite talent. You CANNOT get elite talent by continually refusing to make selections at the top of the draft. The margin of error increases exponentially from #12 to #25. No matter what analytics these clowns want to use, that fact is indisputable.

I cannot for the life of me figure out under what matrix these clowns use...that passing up the best tight end at #12 to select the third best tight end at #29 makes any sense whatsoever. On top of trading up to grab said tight end.

Anyhow, I am tired of railing on their incompetence...another 2-14 season eagerly awaits...they will claim "massive" improvement of record and roster and we will repeat the cycle a year from now.

Movie is on a constant loop...and only those that can fool themselves into believing these amateurs know what they are doing are satisfied.

Thank god for the Crows organization and professionals that actually know how to draft well.

They've got a shed load of picks next year. May use it then or use some picks to get Cousins/Garrapolo and still have other top picks. Next year may see a better QB, OL class etc. They made the right call not taking any of the 3 QBs today.

The got a shit load of picks every year..that is their move.

You will notice I didn't say anything about a qb...they are passing up on WAY more than qb's.

They do not know what they are doing other than playing the "draft game". Whoopee they have picks next year. Not like they will actually use any..and the Texans pick is going to be WORSE than #12 next year.

Sorry...not buying what they are selling...I know con artists and bullshitters when I see them---this FO is stock full of them.

So what would you have done then? Give us something to compare to what the Browns FO ended up doing.

So you take Garrett #1 and would've stayed at #12 and taken whom?

Appears they feel tight end is a big enough need to actually trade back into the first round to acquire one. Last I looked OJ Howard was sitting there at #12.

Anyone want to suggest he is inferior to Njoku?

So you could have your tight end at #12 and personally if I was trading up to #29 I would have snagged the linebacker who went to Pittspuke--namely Watts.

Garrett, Howard
or
Garrett, Peppers, Njoku

I'd go for the latter. You also got a very talented player at DB which was a gaping hole.

Ok, so...

Garrett, Howard, Watt
vs
Garrett, Peppers, Njoku

Not a huge difference between the choices. You have to be pleased they actually did well so far. No reaches or facepalm selections. You're melting over a minuscule difference. And DB was more of a need than LB. Also Peppers offers playmaking options at PR/RB too. Basically another McCaffery that everyone loved as a pick.

AND...acquired another 1st rounder in 2018 ;)

According to USA Today's Tom Pelissero, teams believe 49ers first-round ILB Reuben Foster will require a second shoulder surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff.

He's already in the midst of recovering from the first one following Alabama's season, and coach Nick Saban, speaking after last night's first round, expressed frustration with Foster's decision to not consult Dr. James Andrews, instead going to a different doctor. Another NFL exec thinks Foster could be a serious problem off the field outside of Alabama, where he had people to "hold his hand." He won't get that in the NFL. While the Foster pick at 31 for the 49ers has widely been praised, there are an excess of red flags that could make it backfire.

I completely disagee. Two impact players on defense and a tight end you can depend on baring injury the next 6 years

Peppers is a jack of all trades master of none

And again they got the leftover tight end

Sorry, no way are the two hauls close

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Buccaneers, Chargers and Jets have all reached out to the Packers about acquiring the No. 33 overall pick.

-----------

Doesnt seem like theyre after the same players.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Browns made a last-ditch effort to acquire Jimmy Garoppolo on Thursday night but were again rebuffed by the Patriots.

Nobody has pushed harder for a Garoppolo trade than the Browns, but the Patriots continue to stonewall them. If Tom Brady really plans on playing for another 3-4 years, it makes little sense to stash Garoppolo, who is sure to leave in free agency next offseason. But for whatever reason, Bill Belichick is intent on keeping him as insurance for Brady. The Browns are in dire need of a franchise quarterback after passing on Mitchell Trubisky at No. 1 and later trading the No. 12 pick to the Texans, who used it on Deshaun Watson.

Charley Casserly getting after Steve Smith on NFLN. Casserly was pissed because Steve Smith was talking about how the Texans set David Carr up to fail. I don't think Smith had any idea the guy sitting next to him was largely responsible....or maybe he was!
