Re: rape case grand jury indictments. No judge, only prosecution presents, indictments are generally considered pretty easy to obtain. Also in Ohio, only need 12 of 23 grand jurors to obtain an indictment to charge. No hung juries.
But that's not factoring in if the accused is a star player at Ohio State.
A grand jury just takes it to court. They don't determine guilt or innonence, just whether charges should be filed and taken to court. Why they are easy to obtain.
However, DAs hate to lose. So, if they don't think they can convict Conley, they may not try to make a strong case to the Grand Jury.
That is true if there weren't a million eyes on this case. Advocacy groups, victim rights groups, can make hell on your next re-election campaign as a DA. Unsure if this DA has those visions of re-election and a political career.
Also, grand juries are not open to the public, and typically no media or anything. But this will be national breaking news, top story on ESPN if they indict.
Losing a high profile case like this one might well be worse for a DA than a grand jury not indicting. Grand jury is secret and gives the DA cover. If they go to trial and lose, there's no cover for the DA.
So, a GJ indictment followed by exoneration in court is probably the #1 or #2 most likely scenarios in these cases.
Only about %2 of criminal cases go to trial, so it's not nearly as likely based on generalities. In this specific case, there's a lot of conflicting factors. High profile is probably bad for Conley, although his $$ to defend is going to make the DA wary, both because of the resource drain and the chance of a loss. Eyewitnesses seem to be mostly Conley's friends, that doesn't make a DA want to prosecute. He was never alone with the accuser? It might depend on whether she testifies and whether the grand jury finds her credible.
I reckon he will play 8 out of the first 9 and then not play again until Rd 13Let's go extended for the hell of it.
A day after @VonMiller predicted a big year for Shane Ray, #Broncos coach Vance Joseph announced Ray will miss the next 6-8 weeks.
--------
Let's goad him on twitter to talk up his teammates
The medicinal kindThats 2 months for him to sit at home and smoke weed.
The medicinal kind
Ray was looking good last season, that's a blow.
As for Kaep, lots of teams with cap space and who are clearly waiting for next year's draft to get a QB, Jets especially. He could also go to Browns while they wait for Kizer to develop. Or Jags to put some pressure Bortles.
When the jets signed Chris Gragg (TE) they released KD Cannon in a corresponding move. That's two teams now who have waived Cannon.
Has to be attitude at jets too. Tho Cannon did only have minimal routes and was sloppy at those at Baylor. What a dumb campaigner. didnt get a draft grade or it was a low one and decided to skip his senior season.
Didnt the 9ers cut him for attitude issues? was it the same for the Jets or just not good enough in the first few days at camp.
Ray is a huge loss. He's a 10 sack player
Weve got that. 2 in fact. Just need olineMate D isnt your teams issue, they just need a mildly combatant QB. And Ray missing the preseason and the first 1-2 games wont be what costs you a playoff spot. Ray being out for the season wouldnt cost you a playoff spot.
Jets by a mileWho's worse....Jets v 9ers??
Having a debate with a mate...I say Jets. Thoughts?
9ers are probably a year ahead of Jets rebuild wise.
Think Shanahan will have a bigger impact. Bowles has been a disappointment. Seemed to be unable to cope with dissent in the locker room and he struggles with clock management.
