NFL 2017 NFL Pre-Season Discussion

Bengals WLB Vontaze Burfict is facing a five-game suspension for an illegal hit on Chiefs FB Anthony Sherman earlier this preseason.

Burfict is appealing, but his chances of beating the suspension seem low considering his history of illegal hits. That history also explains why Burfict is facing a lengthy suspension rather than a one- or two-game ban. ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Burfict's appeal hearing will take place next week. Burfict has looked outstanding in preseason games after reporting to camp in the best shape of his life. He is the best player on a Bengals defense that will also be without top CB Adam Jones in Week 1 due to a one-game suspension.

Bullshit. Didn't stop the top flight QBs in the league with 5 snaps total in pre-season weeks 1 and 2 putting up decent numbers and looking comfortable. Face it, you suck. Trubisky will be starting sooner than later.

Mike Glennon believes game preparation led to his improved performance during the third preseason game.

Teams traditionally do not prepare specifically for the first two preseason games, but they treat the third as something of a "dress rehearsal" for the regular season. "Something I like to hang my hat on is preparing during the week as much as I can," Glennon said. "Having the full week (for preparation) all the way through, that does fit my strengths." Coach John Fox did not say it explicitly, but he all but named Glennon the starter for Week 1 after the game.

Do you know who else sucks? Jared *ingg Goff. Fck you.
Saw his highlights from Chargers game and uh...yeah didn't look good. Probably get a game at the Texans though.

Chiefs acquired ILB Reggie Ragland from the Bills in exchange for a 2019 fourth-round pick.

The No. 41 overall pick of last year's draft, Ragland had been practicing with the third-string defense. He missed his entire rookie year with an ACL injury. It's rather impressive the Bills managed to snag a fourth-round pick, though the Chiefs don't have much to call home about at inside linebacker with 34-year-old Derrick Johnson coming off another Achilles' tear. The price suggests the Chiefs plan for Ragland to see meaningful 2017 snaps.

Ooh an alert about Stafford and the Lions agreeing on a five-year extension to make him the highest-paid player in the league.

Can't wait for the numbers :dollarsign::dollarsign:

But why?

The team has other needs and Staff still hasnt won a playoff game.
Just another Joe Flacco contract. well without the playoff wins.

Will be extremely interesting to see how they structured this contract, what are the guarantees and how are the bonuses structured.

FYI - Derek Carr's 5 year $125M contract included a $12.5M signing bonus, plus 2 additional roster bonuses in 2017 and 18 of $7.65M and $15M respectively and initially had $40M guaranteed at signing.

BTW - a big few days coming over the weekend with final rosters to be struck

Aug. 31 Final Preseason Games.

Sept. 2 Prior to 4:00 p.m., New York time, clubs must reduce rosters to a maximum of 53 players on the Active/Inactive List.

Simultaneously with the cut-down to 53, clubs that have players in the categories of Active/Physically Unable to Perform or Active/Non-Football Injury or Illness must select one of the following options: place player on Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform or Reserve/Non-Football Injury or Illness, whichever is applicable; request waivers; terminate contract; trade contract; or continue to count the player on the Active List.

Sept. 3 Claiming period for players placed on waivers at the final roster reduction will expire at 12:00 noon, New York time.

Upon receipt of the Personnel Notice at approximately 1:00 p.m., New York time, clubs may establish a Practice Squad of 10 players

With rosters all going from 90 to 53 there will be over 1000 players (up to 1184 but some will be on PUP or NFI lists) up for grabs around the league and that all starts at 4:00pm ET (US) Sep 2.

Stafford's not even worth that tbh. I'd have traded him, high pick, and drafted a new top of the first round qb in a future draft.
the problem is that drafting a QB is fraught with danger. Once a team has a top 15 QB, and I'd put Stafford in the top half in the league, there's very little to gain, and a lot to lose if you let them go.

Nailed it Sven. Hold on to them and build around them.
