what are you talking about ?? .. this is how it works right now. Here is my idea for a fairer system for the clubs.
Once you get drafted, other than nominating yourself to be traded and putting a price on your head (if you're uncontracted), you are unable to nominate a club until you're a free agent. Also if you're traded the free agency clock resets.
Lets use Schache as an example, if he doesn't want to re-sign at Brisbane then he can elect to nominate his asking price and contract, but from there it is up to Brisbane to get the best deal they can from any club in the AFL that is prepared to meet his asking price.
This system will dissuade players from wanting to walk out the door early in their careers because the power is out of their hands. It also gives the clubs the ability to be able to negotiate better trade deals for players because it removes the ridiculous you can only trade a player to their nominated club nonsense. This should see fewer players doing a Gunston/Schache and will also see clubs getting a fairer return at the trade table because it will force clubs to pay tote odds for a player rather than shitty take it or leave it deals like we had for Gunston, Stenglein etc

What do we want from tonight?
I dont really care who wins as long as they **** each other up.Charlie Dixon to gut punch Dangerfield, thereby copping the first gut punch suspension. Geelong to melee in response, leading their club to cop a $100,000 fine for the biggest melee in AFL history. Joel Selwood to be nearly decapitated in a high tackle, but not have it paid as a free, causing Chris Scott to publicly complain about the umpiring and personally cop a $50,000 fine. Westhoff to have a set shot for goal after the siren to win the match, but spray it out on the full. Robbie Gray to dive out of a pack for a free kick, but land face first on a particularly tough piece of turf, ruling him out for the rest of the match. Tom Hawkins and Steven Motlop to both run onto the field from the interchange bench chasing a cheeseburger thrown from the crowd, causing a free kick against. Ken Hinkley to lose his cool and punch a Geelong fan taunting him for being shit, causing public embarrassment for Port Adelaide.
It's fairly win-win.What do we want from tonight?
Here you goI would link it but it is a pain in a phone. But can be found at aflplayers.com.au
True, that. But I suppose I wouldn't mind a tough grinding win to Geelong. Wear them down for next week, without making them angry. It's fairly win-win.
Arguably Freo since the 1st few rounds...The form team of the comp is probably North !!!
What do we want from tonight?
I'm hoping more for a lose-lose by both teams, but it depends on your perspective...It's fairly win-win.
This is the one and only time I'll barrack for Cats. What do we want from tonight?
What if the club doesn't have a first round pick?how about this for the free agency conundrum ... we can lower the period of time for free agency .. say 3 or 4 years. the club wanting to pick up a free agent loses their a draft pick to the club losing the player based on how much money they are putting out. the club picking up the free agent also pays a salary cap penalty, something like an equal amount to the player they are picking up. say if mcgovern was a freeagent, he nominates freo, freo do the deal, they lose their first rnd draft pick to us, say pick 14. they are going to pay mitch 500k, their salary cap also goes down 500k. players association might not like it because it means total player payments go down, but it penalises clubs for wanting to draft big money players.
Dixon to run through Danger and send him into mergatroid, Dixon suspended for 6 weeks. Danger misses the Adelaide game, Adelaide win and we all go to the Pork board to thank them. What do we want from tonight?

I'm not an AFL player or public figure. No one cares how much I am paid.
But I do think public AFL salaries would result in a much fairer amount being paid to players, because their contracts would actually attract scrutiny. Players themselves could very easily look up how much is on offer at other clubs and how much similar players are earning.
Mackay and Thompson to not be selected.
