I wrote this back in February. And you think having a highlights package instead of a live broadcast is a
bad thing for us?
WE CONTROL THE HIGHLIGHTS, so therefore WE CONTROL THE MESSAGING.
Guess who won't be seen in the highlights package, except a fleeting glimpse as we kick what seems like goal after goal? Gold Coast in their red jumper.
That's why Cochrane is sooking about us being 'small-minded'. If they had worn white, we would have been able to sell the game in it's entirety - which was why we believed it was part of the commercial agreement when they signed the contract. They didn't, so they get frozen out. We'd rather take a financial hit on the broadcast of the game than see the Suns cutting in on something we've invested 4 years into to self-promote themselves as a parasite rather than a partner.
For the people actually attending the game in the stadium, the Suns wearing red is no big deal, because all the VIPs are attending
because of Port Adelaide. They know who they are supporting, and the Suns wearing red is just good luck for the entire game. But for people who have never seen the game - those 17 stations that are picking up the highlights package - those are the ones that may have been influenced by Gold Coast wearing red.
And now, they won't be - because they will hardly see them.
Too bad, so sad.
So in conclusion:
