what was it like barracking for sturt in the early-mid 90s?
Hard yards. The jam donuts at Adelaide Oval were usually the highlight of the day.

Thank you Fabulous Phil Carman for turning the ship around!

Is the internationally acclaimed Darren Burgess Center For Kids Who Can't Fitness Good And Wanna Learn To Do Other Stuff Good Too going to close down?

Yep, wondered this myself, how long before the signage comes down at the Darren Burgess Academy of whatever it was called? is there signage? is it actually a thing, or was it just another one of the "we're finally in the top 8! we do everything better than you" pieces Ports media team came up with.

Oh well, as the New Creed says when one academy closes another one opens.

Brad Johnson showing why ex players shouldn't commentate on their old clubs games.
It really, really shits me. Why can't they have these "experts" commentate on games OTHER than their home club? It's just full on ignorant barracking for most... except for Roo who goes completely the other way.

Okay, so I did the AFL ladder predictor: http://www.afl.com.au/ladder/ladder-predictor

Tried to be as unbiased and impartial as possible. Have us finishing 2nd, 16-6. Losing 3 to Melbourne, Essendon and West Coast all on the road. Feel like the Essendon one might be tough and so put a loss on that to balance out putting a win against Geelong at home.

Good news is - Port miss out on the 8! 12-10. They have a tough run. A lot of their games coming up are against the same teams in that pack from 4th to 12th who are in contention.

Also, our last game against West Coast will determine if they make the 8 or not. Could get interesting if we decide to keep a few injured players at home, especially if we have top 2 sewn up.

Ladder is:
1. GWS 68
2. Adelaide 64
3. Geelong 64
4. Melbourne 60
5. Bulldogs 60 (probably was a bit too optimistic on their results, I've tipped them to go 9-1 for the rest of the season. I still rate them and their draw is a bit easier in the run in)
6. Richmond 56
7. Essendon 56
8. West Coast 52
-----
9. Port 48
10. Swans 44
11. Pies 40
12. St Kilda 36
13 onwards, who cares ... (though I have Brisbane and Hawks tying for the spoon)

So finals
GWS beats Melbourne
We beat Geelong
Elim: Dogs beat West Coast
Richmond beat Essendon

Melbourne beat Bulldogs
Richmond beat Geelong

GWS beat Richmond
We beat Melbourne

We beat GWS in the Final. Hooray!

Or if we inevitably lose to Geelong in the final, we beat Richmond at home in the Semi, then travel to GWS. Beat them, then beat Melbourne in the Final. Hooray!

It's an urban myth, probably not true, but story goes that most pr0n was put on VHS because it was cheaper and allowed longer play times, and the rest of the world followed.

There's most probably truth in that.

I read once that Sony's licensing contracts with movie studios for betamax where hugely expensive. When JVC entered the market with VHS they decided the best way to compete with Sony was to massively undercut Sony and make it ridiculously cheap for studios to put their movies on VHS.

It most probably opened the door in a huge way for the home pr0n industry.

Bulldogs 9-1 isn't optimistic, it's insane at this point.

Cant see port missing.

Think i remember Phil was a groundsman with no coaching experience but Sturt were broke and so bad no-one else wanted the job

Parents got a free copy of the Australian on their flight from Melbourne. Article about Pittard in there, but the journo claims to have seen confidential documents relating to Port's salary cap. Highlights:

1. He's likely off to Essendon
2. Port are paying 50% of the new salary cap (over $7m) to 9 players
3. Gray earns over $1m
4. Dixon, Wingard, Wines, Boak, Ryder, Hartlett and Lobbe all earn over $700K/year, with Boak close to Gray
5. Lobbe is the highest-paid seconds player in the AFL (except when Tippett is in the 2s)
6. Trengove may also leave

No way lobbe is on 700k.

And Gray over $1m? Nah.

Not even port could get things that wrong.

I'd be willing to believe they blew stupid money on luring polec, ryder, dixon.
