So what? Do they give out trophies for being top of the ladder after R16? These two would have undeniably made us stronger contenders for this years flag - assuming they would have performed for us like they are performing right now.

I was one who didnt want us to pay 2 firsts for Gibbs. But I can admit when I am wrong. In hindsight we should have. If he was playing like that for us this year then we would be further in front of the other teams. And we would have a much stronger team to actually win the games that count - in September. Hindsight is 20-20 and Gibbs hasn't played this consistently before, but he is now looking elite on a regular basis and we (me included) are looking like fools.

Burton is more of a question - we will only know this decision in hindsight as well. I have heard people say his body wont be able to cope with AFL by the time he is 25. Well if he plays like this until then it still would have been worth it. Especially if Doedee asks to be traded before he turns 25.

I made my original comment a bit tongue in cheek because you can't see things in hindsight. I agreed with our position on Gibbs. I was surprised by our decision to take Doedee, but I gave the recruiters the benefit of the doubt and am still hopeful Doedee can be a good player for us. At the moment it looks like I have supported two decisions that the club made that could cost us a flag. If I am having a crack at the club, I am equally having a crack at myself here.
If Gibbs and Burton were playing in our current team , jeepers how would that make us look

Does the draw help the Hawks more than a win since their % is so bad?
Omg Hawks and Sydney could both end up in the finals. What a crazy up/down season.
Hawks are effectively 2 games out of the 8 - could be 3 by the time the round is over.
And they'd have to overtake Bulldogs, Essendon, Sydney plus one other out of Saints and above to get there.
So - no. It's not just the number of games, it's the number of teams they'd have to pass.
IMO the line is now drawn at Essendon in 10th.

Its probably as good as a win for them because they would only sit at the bottom of any group of teams that finish with equal points with them anyway. So the draw is effectively as good as a win for the Hawks in terms of the teams that they will be fighting for to get into the 8 and the draw is effectively a loss for GWS with respect to the Crows (and potentially Port). But its effectively a win for GWS against all the other teams.

I'd see it as just as good for them. Their percentage is fairly awful.
Yes. But what it does is it effectively jumps them above everyone else that is currently on equal points with them. So its kind of like they dont gain any points but move ahead of everyone with the same points as them (actually 2 points less) but with higher percentage. Even if they won the game they would still be at the bottom of the next pile, so effectively in terms of their position its like a win. They wouldnt have jumped anyone that are 2 points higher than them, even if they had an extra 2 points in the bag.

Better. The question was never about yes or no to Gibbs. It was what price. He has justified the price that you were prepared to pay for him marty. But even if he wasn't playing as good as he is this year, but was playing career average footy prior to this year level, he would have been good for our team. But not necessarily at that price. It was only ever the price that 100% of crows fans were debating about. Looking at him now, he would have been well worth sacrificing Gallucci and a pick 18-20 this year.

Looks like we should have trusted Liptaks work with Burtons knee too. I do understand the risk. But I would have thought with the current state of our list that now would be the time to take a risk. Oh well. Win some - lose some.

No doubt Gibbs was a punt he could have been ordinary this year but I guess you reap the rewards, but how big was the punt Gibbs is quality

Given their % is so poor a draw removes it so effectively the same as a win.

One of Sydney or Hawthorn have to lose when they play each other. Hawks also have Geelong, Bulldogs and Ricmond. So pretty tough for them but if they can win a game here and there it will help us. Our job is simple, beat Geelong and Sydney and win those we are expected to win.

We are in control of our own destiny, top 2 beckons, embrace it boys embrace it.

Oh, and LOL Collingwood* and go Suns.

* which just means Talking Footy and Footy Classified this week will be all about the burning question on everyone's lips, no matter which team they support, and to which not enough attention has been paid this season.....

Burton wouldn't have been in our team. He's playing for Hawthorn because they've got no good young key defenders.
He would have had a crack by now. He is the same stage as Doedee who should have already had a game by now. You would assume that Burton would have found his way into the team and kept his spot. He would ideally play Mackay's role in our setup in my opinion.

Could Hawthorn sneak into the 8 by the end of the year at the expense of.... The Power?? I dont know what I would rather haha.
Bulldogs could take Port's spot looking at the draw as it stands (Dogs have 4 very winnable games to come) - Port have tough games against Eagles and Melbourne away and the Showdown. The aRoos, Saints, Collingwood and Gold Coast are certainly very winnable at home - none have won at Adelaide Oval yet.

Bulldogs vs Power in Round 22 is probably the game that could decide it. Assuming everything else goes according to script (highly unlikely given the year we are having).

Nah, they'll spend 10 minutes on how poor the Dogs have been of late. Very minor mention of our performance.
