We then likely face Sydney in a prelim (if we win against GWS, and Geel lose to Sydney in the SF).

Not ideal

What's this not ideal attitude, it's a defeatist attitude

We our #1 in attack and contested ball, #4 defensively and have had more wins against too 8 sides then any other club

We only had ourselves to blame losing last week to Sydney and we should fear no team especially at home

To be the best you need to beat the best, embrace it

Honestly only team I'm not sure we have covered. Yes beat them in Round 1 but they had a LOT of players out
Rubbish, Coniglio out and who else?

We were missing Walker (captain), Lever and Crouch and still towelled them by 10 goals. I'd be extremely confident of a similar results in a qualifying final at Adelaide Oval...

They will always exist because the AFL needs 18 teams for TV rights money.

If anything, we will see two more teams be introduced to further dilute the player/coaching/umpiring talent.

But t.v. rating revenue will increase with them.

who do you think you are coming in at the end with no reference to why that comment was said, I was talking about leading into finals sh•t for brains. damn people around here like to think they know the inner-workings of what's going on in the footy club, they are privvy to information the rest of us aren't. you know what everyone else knows, stop pretending you know more
You were the one who quoted me at the beginning of this conversation, that you reckon you know what Pyke is saying.

So your post is very black pot like...

I think this is right but here's our finals performances since the flags, with finals listed in order of significance.

0-0 Grand finals

0-4 Preliminary finals (Losses: Coll 2002, WCE 2005, WCE 2006, Haw 2012)

1-3 Qualifying finals (Wins: Fremantle 2006. Losses: Bris 2002, St K 2005, Syd 2012)

3-4 Semi finals: (Wins: Melb 2002, Port 2005, Frem 2012. Losses: Bris 2003, Coll 2009, Haw 2015, Syd 2016)

4-3 Elimination finals (Wins: WCE 2003, Ess 2009, WB 2015, NM 2016, Losses: Carl 2001, Haw 2007, Coll 2008)

We haven't won a significant final since the qualifying final of 2006. Every single other one since then we've lost. Forgive the pessimism.

But FWIW I'm as confident going into this finals series as I've felt in any since 1998

Surely you are just making this shit up.
No one who understood footy would have entered the 1998 finals confidently and then we were smacked by the 5th team on the ladder in our first final.

I felt pretty confident in 2006 until Cuz and the boys "fired up" at half time in the prelim:oops:.

anyone who watches Pyke's pressers know what he's saying, what's so cryptic about it, he's fairly straightforward. perhaps people with their own ideas like to imagine what they think he's saying, is that it?

Winning four finals on the trot instills a certain level of belief

The AFL has to be wondering how they are going to recover some degree of credibility in Queensland. The 2 bottom teams in one state is not a good thing. Brisbane have been a joke for too long, but appears they may have turned a corner. Next year will be crucial for them. The Gold Coast though are by far the worst club in the AFL ATM. They are today's equivalent of the Sydney Swans of the early 90s. At this point there has to be real doubt that they will ever be a viable franchise of the AFL. Considering they already have salary cap advantages and the academy set up, it's hard to see them ever being successful.
When I lived in Brisbane, they really don't care about AFL at all. It was almost impossible to find a place to watch it. Nobody cares except the expats from Melbourne and Adelaide.

The Swans will have to go 18-2 since their 0-6 start if they want to win the flag

Tough ask

Another statistical funny:

Port have had to play 1, yes 1, top 8 team twice this year. Us

We've played 4 top 8 teams in double up games

Port are 1W 14L from their last 15 matches against teams in the Top 8. The W was against North last year when they were on a 5 game losing streak.
