I read somewhere, can't remember if here or on the main board - you can't read into good pre-season form but you can read into the bad.

Port just have no structure except in defence. Not surprising, seeing as their only good coach is Bassett. I'd get him at the crows in a heart beat.

Nah theres been bad teams in the preseason who are good in the main, just because they don't care. Sydney are notorious for it.

It's usually top 4 teams from the previous year though. Teams who don't make the 8 when they would think they should have, usually give the preseason a red hot crack.

Fair point. No one-size-fits-all rule, just an observation. For what it's worth I think Richmond are this years bad team that play well in the pre-season and get unreasonably excited early.

Structure and the game style is important. That qtr looked like the qtr against Melbourne at Elizabeth last year where everyone bar the coolade drinkers drew a line through Port for the year.

Hinkley has NFI how to fix this.

Boak should be stripped of the C and dropped to SANFL. He's broken.

Sydney often lose and get well beaten in scratch natches but you see some method in the way they play.

There is little system in the way Port play either iffensively or defensively.

Great example then of Polec kicking up forward to an empty zone in the right pocket. Four Port forwards all moving to the opposite pocket.

Both Ryder and Dixon are the same type of forward, they are ruckman/back-up forwards. The best games they have played in the forward line is when they are playing against ruckman, when they have to play against full-time backmen, they struggle.

Polec is an incredibly dumb footballer. No brains whatsoever. He is the precise example of of doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. He can't even work out why he can't kick and address it.

Dixon is a spud. GC stitched Port up beautifully there.

True. But he is not the only one to create such a forward entry.

Richmond have an excellent midfield with the addition of Caddy Prestia Navkernis and a solid spine.

I put them pushing the 8 maybe 6-10 range.
