Will be interesting to see Port's crowds if they start poorly and are out of contention early. Gut feel is that theyll still be ok.
I think they will be OK, low to mid 30's maybe. They didn't have any of those 50,000+ crowds last year, the games they would get those crowds previously got mid 40,000 crowds.

Almost half of their crowds were in the 30's last year, with one being just 27,000, their average home attendance was 39,000.

I'm guessing today's game wasn't broadcast in China...
Nah it was on delay in China.

But they showed the 2014 elimination final as todays game over there.

According to the news report sent to China by Port they had a triumphant victory today and will no doubt be undefeated as they march to Shanghai in May....

It's handy that Port are opening up a new market where they can control the media... though projecting themselves as 2017 premiers will pose a problem when they actually have to play a game there... So the cunning plan is that China will be told that Port are the team in their national colours. ;)

Who remembers reading posts to the effect of, wait till we get our players back, we have been cruelled by injury, wait till we get Ryder back, it would be the same as the Crows missing Jacobs, Talia, Tex, Betts etc. That optimism which seemed to last a whole 12 months has disappeared unbelievably quickly !!

Reality is hitting home earlier for some this year.

How many 3 game memberships will be renewed?

Reading the Port board has been amusing, in summary:

Hinkley is shit
Dixon is shit
Bonner is shit
Impey is shit
Leaders are shit
Trengove up forward is shit
Skills are shit
Port are shit
Jonas is shit

Edit: more shit players
I would say "no shit" as a reply but in this case it seems like there's plenty.:p

I Found a random selection article on Ports website from their peak, first final, September 2014, the game they smashed Richmond by 57 points - headline "Selection: Strong sides named for huge weekend at the Oval"

None of the players missing stand out as making a huge difference, the players remaining really haven't gone on to become the players everybody thought they would, the players that played this week but not in the 2014 finals aren't overly inspiring either (what's a Willem anyway?).

Fair point. No one-size-fits-all rule, just an observation. For what it's worth I think Richmond are this years bad team that play well in the pre-season and get unreasonably excited early.
So no offence here Iron, but you are predicting a continuation of around 20+ years of Richmond mediocrity. I am not going to disagree with your post, I think you are on the money. But predicting Richmond to get excited early and produce nothing when the season starts is like predicting we'll get some rain in winter and summer could be hot ;-)

"David Zaharakis has bemoaned attacks directed at James Hird, suggesting that anyone who has chosen to "barrage" Hird in relation to the Essendon supplements saga in recent times is "just not a good person".

Zaharakis famously chose not to be part of the injection program at the Dons in 2012 – a program that ultimately led to 34 current and former Bombers being suspended for all of the 2016 AFL season.

Asked about Hird's treatment at the hands of the public in the wake of the club great's recent health problems, Zaharakis said that the unrelenting criticism was no longer acceptable.

Port know that their list needs a regeneration however they screwed the pooch on this one by locking in spuds to multi year contracts

They have FA currency and a bunch of under achievers who are not only over paid but on long term contracts
And no first rounder this year !!
