So is this China Southern sponsorship a thing yet?

Port "today" announced that Cathay Pacific have joined them as a Premier Partner and Fiveaa (their sponsor) have gone to great lengths to promote it, but here's the thing, they actually announced the same thing in December!

Nothing new was announced today, it looks like they are worried that our China plan might have already resulted in more actual sponsorship $$$ than their plan and are spinning very hard.

Why else would they re-announce this old news, a day after the China Southern rumours surfaced?
Not surprised.

Their Chief China Cheerleader on here last night admitted that the thing driving them with this strategy was us.

OK so all that has been announced today is...

"They will fly hundreds of Port Adelaide supporters to the club for Round 8, having experienced four times the usual demand for Shanghai flights as a result of the game."

4 times the usual demand? hmm sounds like they might have to put on a couple of extra flights...

"From July 6, South Australians will be able to fly on a fifth, permanent Cathay service from Adelaide to Hong Kong."

Nope, just announcing that Cathay Pacific are adding one flight per day starting in July, well after the game in China.

And a different city...

I personally don't think we are getting Southern China Airlines as a sponsor and this re-announcement is what AA were hinting at.

The amusing part is how LR reacted to a baseless rumour effectively started here and now claims it was his idea for Port to sponsor the Chinese National Aussie Rules team over a meal of Peking Duck with Kochies daughter in Hong Kong after Southern China Airline stopped sponsoring them and Melbourne.

The addition of another permanent flight carrying passengers and cargo from Adelaide to Hong Kong and vice versa is not old news. A sponsor who is investing money in the club getting value from a two way relationship - shock horror.

And also this: "Cathay Pacific’s executives recently attended the state visit by Chinese Premier Li to the SCG for the Power’s Round 1 win over the Swans."

It's just continuing to build the relationship. It's what a club is meant to do with the sponsors it receives money from, particularly those that have no vested interest in the football side of the club.

Kind of like this - you didn't get any new sponsorship money from the South Australian Toyota dealers, did you? So why this announcement?

That articles about our guernseys, so of course it's relevant to the club.

Do we make a big announcement when Balfour announces a new donut?

If we had Kochie and KT in charge... headline the morning after rumours of Ports Four'n Twenty sponsorship a couple of years back.

"Balfours strengthens sprinkles commitment and Crows relationship"

I wonder if Port HQ spread rumours about us getting a sponsor just before they have an announcement planned to try make it look like they gazumped us.

Jason Johanisen is apparently asking for $700,000 a season from the Bulldogs and getting no love so has decided to put off contract talks until the end of the season.

He seems impressive but $700k?

Lochart Road, who is effectively a representative of the PAFC on Bigfooty, told us last night how they see the relationship beteen our club and theirs.

So yeah you could be right.

I'm sure Collingwood will grab him for any price above $600k

Cashing in on the Norm Smith Medal. Lot of $ for him, he's good, but not THAT good.
Which club would potentially consider giving him that sort of coin though ?? And what must players who believe that they signed for unders to achieve success at a club be thinking ?? Some of the astronomical figures being thrown around lately must have them wondering if they have done the right thing.

Almost backed him for the Norm Smith last year, doh!. Can't kick for s**t. No way. We'll need that money for other better players.

He's already got success, now he's looking to make bank.

Also lets all remember that 700k now is 500k from a year or so ago thanks to the raised salary cap.
