He was not the only one who refuse to admit any guilt.
And yes the advice they were giving was shit.
Also remember I am not condoning what he did and I believe the AFL at the time was piss weak and bias. Even more so for what they did to the Crows at the same time yet this was a far worse situation.
But He does not deserve to be vilified in social media by keyboard warriors, and his family does not.
Don't read social media - simple!

You reckon murders are treated better, which imo is crap.

Has Hird been jailed? No, but he should have been.

He's far from an innocent!

OK but it not that easy. can you turn the computer off, the Phone off, the paper off, stop your kids from attending school, not visit anyone in public,
Apart from the school visits , yes.

If I had seen the effect on my kids I would put a slow to it by apologizing.

The kids would get some form of teasing due to his position anyway. Collingwood kids, Bulldogs kids etc.

I'm sorry, but yes he ****ing does. Not his family, but he certainly does. He allowed his players to be injected with an experimental drug - that he KNEW was experimental - apart from all the other crap they were given. He deserves to be villified until he understands the gravity of what he did. In my opinion, the majority of the media went way too soft on Hird - and all of the others responsible. I would have liked to see some serious investigative journalism conducted on this story... but the AFL have the media in their pocket so it was never going to happen. Had he acknowledged sincerely his part in this whole debacle, and stood down from the outset instead of fighting to get off on technicalities, he would have been forgiven. I can't see that ever happening now.

So much this+!

Even still, the majority of casual observers I speak to regarding this story seem to believe that Hird and the boys were shafted.
They majority simply lapped up the bullshit the bias media pumped and continue to pump out.
Yet another reason I find it hard to swallow the perception that the whole world has turned on poor James.

Allowing experimental drugs to be injected in your players could have been a death sentence for them though.

Hird would not be in this position today if he'd taken responsibility - and meant it - from the get go. All the litigation dragged it out to an almost four year saga. This could have been over and done with like Cronulla's if it weren't for ego.
IMHO, and i've followed this saga very closely ....on reflection there needed to be a strong Essendon official that simply laid it on the line to Hird, who appeared to operating without Essendon constraint ....and with "some" encouragement from Little

The forgotten man in this is Danny Corcoran, the Football Manager
....close friend of Hird, experienced Football Manager & Athletics senior administrator, who knew full well of the implication of Drugs in Athletics

As Football Manager IMO it was his over-riding responsibility to manage this program & control Hird, who i honestly think, thought he was doing nothing illegal ......Hirds stubbornness and propensity to getting his own way at Essendon, was his undoing & something i doubt he'll fully recover from business wise

But no-one mentions Corcoran .....he's basically got out of this scott free
Corcoran was a key player in the club at the time it recruited Stephen Dank and Dean Robinson — the two accused of giving banned drugs to players. The AFL suspended him for four months as part of its punishment of the club and its senior figures. Corcoran is now a real estate agent selling residential property in bayside Melbourne.

But remember we are talking about a proud man who since his facial injury cannot sleep at night without help. All of a sudden watching his family abused and unable to do damn thing.
How would you react if your kids were being abused and you could do nothing?
Move ! .....but his pride would not allow that, even for his kids sake IMO

The best thing Hird could have done is ignored social media... as there are all sorts of crazies out there.
Do you think he was really following Social Media .......i sincerely doubt he gave it a glance, he's not that stupid ....no it was the media coverage, and the ever increasing feeling that he was a failure

IMO not getting the SEN1116 radio gig would have been a massive slap in the face & dent to his decreasing self image

Under no circumstances can anyone condone cyber bullying Jenny ......that's a poor post by you

Feel for the family, but do the crime do the time. It's no different to the struggles any family faces when a family member selfishly commits a crime and drags everyone through the mud. Being such a high profile person has magnified the situation but again, I'm sure he was very aware of the repercussions if he was ever caught! Man up, take responsibility and work on moving forward.

Agree on both counts.

I was just replying to a post.

Anyone with any intelligence would not be following social media in Hird's circumstances.

I also think the fact that he got off pretty lightly from the afl means that a lot of the public go harder on him because they feel that he he escaped his punishment! Often if something like this isn't properly handled, someone else feels they need to handle it themselves!

But i don't believe Hird actually committed a crime .....i fully believe him when he says he gave strict instructions that the program had to be fully compliant with ASADA

His problem was not checking that his instructions were being complied with, although as previously posted i blame Danny Corcoran ......at Adelaide who is ultimately responsible for the supplements program Pyke or Burton??

No, Hirds issue was his banging his head against a brick wall stubbornness, as perceived by the public ....and his flagrant disregard for the competition, the EFC, and anyone else (friends) that stood in the was of him vindicating himself

I think vilify is probably a poor choice of words, but who draws the line between waranted criticism and vilification? Seems to me that you cant say much these days before being labled a bully.

That's fair, if you believe he is innocent! I personally don't.

Who instigated the program? Who had the ultimate call as to wether it went ahead or was shut down?

These days the politically correct extremists ......case in question Adam Goodes, criticism of his views/actions, or vilification .....that's a debate for a 10,000 post thread

Hird knew they were using experimental drugs not not fit for human consumption on his players.

I'm in no doubt that Hird is not innocent.

But he stated unequivocally & i believe him ....that only ASADA approved supplements were to be used .....however we know where that all drifted to from that point

Hird's SMS were all over it, including when Dr Reid tried to shut it down.

He is far from innocent!

How would you feel if your kids were given experimental drugs not fit for human consumption?

Who instigated the program? Who had the ultimate call as to wether it went ahead or was shut down?
Same question applies at every club .....the difference here is in the administration of the programs implementation & monitoring

How would you feel if your kids were given experimental drugs not fit for human consumption?
Ropeable .....but i believe Hird when he says that wasn't his intention

We're talking from a rear view mirror POV and the outcomes ....not from what i believe was the original intention
