I like this bit of delusion.

"Why would you want to hide a fundamental weakness? Isn't the whole point of Port Adelaide to create a system of development that churns our premiership quality players every year?

Pre-seasons 1-4 - increase aerobic capacity and endurance, building up the tank required to power increased muscle mass without compromising running ability needed to break lines

Pre-seasons 5 and 6 - increase strength capacity and power required to break tackles

Rinse, repeat.

People reckon we were miles off this year. Well, if we had taken our chances against Richmond, we'd be in their position right now. We are in pursuit of football mastery, and once we get there, it's going to take opposition sides years to establish the same systems we have.

It's why I couldn't care less about who wins the flag this year. We are thinking about the next ten, twenty, fifty flags and how we are going to be able to compete for them. But to do that, we need to establish a great development system first.

Adelaide plays a system designed around the weaknesses of their players. We play a system designed to correct those weaknesses. It's like in football (soccer) - if one team focuses on skill and playing out from the back while the other just focuses on long balls and scoring, the long ball team is going to win almost all the time at the start. But as the first team develops and actually learns the system, suddenly the long ball team won't be able to get near them because they never learned how to play any other way."

Anyway, everyday when I drive past the brewery on STURT Rd, Thebarton, I'll be thinking "now THAT is what I call football mastery".
:D
If anyone thinks that any AFL training system designed now will last 10 - 20 - 50 years ... that is a special type of delusion alright. Football mastery? Where are they getting this stuff?

I'm assuming that the "I couldn't care less about who wins the flag this year" feeling has come on in say the last 3 or so weeks?

WWWhhhhaaaattttt........The AFL saw fit to admit him into their "Hall Of Fame" recently didn't they??

Shows just how f***** the AFL really is.
Have the AFL changed their criteria for HOF? Didnt you have to be actively retired from ALL forms of football before being considered eligible?

Ablett will get there, the AFL will ensure it happens (good for footy lol).
I'm interested in the price that will be extracted and how they get around this.

Geelong have very little in the cupboard, and to spend a decent pick on Ablett will cost them.

Anyone suggesting he is going on a "Mitchell" style deal is surely jesting. Like Bryce Gibbs, his manager sees 4 years left in him - he's under contract - and wants to go home, so surely 2 first rounders minimum?

Remember when everyone was crying about the crap price we got for PD - and one thing we needed to make sure we did was weaken Geelong as best we could by prying out picks? We did, we got a 1st and a 2nd - which the Cats would have kept if we had gone the FA route. Reckon that weakened Geelong's trade power and will continue to have an influence over coming years? I do.

Well the Suns need to think like that. They need to understand that it will Geelong that is pushing them out of the 8 at the end of next year and the least they can do is weaken their ability to trade for / draft other players by extracting SOME value for Ablett.

I'll be an interested spectator when this comes to light in trade week.

The game was in the balance until midway through the 3rd quarter

If Shiel wasn’t taken out illegally then their might not be a grand final to miss for cotchin

He took out arguably GWS’ best player, that could have changed the result
Reminiscent of the 2002 Prelim against Collingwood when Jason Cloke knocked out Edwards in the second quarter. We lost after having led at half time but the final result could've been different if it weren't for the loss of one of our best players.

Now THATS reportable
I've got a feeling this might not end so well.

Barry Hall is a bit suspect emotionally and psychologically when it comes to this stuff ... he needs to get himself under control and away from situations where his temper and violence takes over. I don't think he would be sitting at home rubbing his hands at the upcoming backlash.

Its opening up to a Ablett to Geelong, Someone to us, our first to Suns. It could be Motlop to us despite the protestations of the posters on BF.

Let me guess. Silent J?

What a load of absolute nonsense.

Anyway, good on him/Port for wondering about how they are going to win their next 50 flags. We'll just worry about winning our next one. And the one after that. And the one after that.

"Barry Hall was contesting the football, had no other option and the force was considered reasonable in the circumstances. No action will be taken" - The Grand Final Week MRP
Also, can we take this opportunity to reflect on what a great season Patrick Dangerfield has had? Round of applause?

Chris Scott basically said this is the end of an era in his presser after losing to us.

Paying tribute to Mackie and Lonergran and then saying how there are teams that did not make the eight tbus year that will be better than them next year. He also said they need to start again.

Geelong are done.....

Geelong did well to finish 2nd at the end of the minor round considering their lack of depth.

They lose 2 best 22 players due to retirements. Likely to lose Menzel &/or Motlop to free agency.

Cats have already traded their 1st rounder to Carlton for their 2nd rounder... & have traded away plenty of early picks in recent years to bring ready made players in... which means they are thin on young talent coming through.

Ablett has nominated them, but GC likely want a player. Talk of Smith, but they probably would need to use the Carlton 2nd rounder as a minimum.

Taylor probably needs to return to defence to cover Lonergan... but that leaves Buzza, Stanley type up forward.

Think the lack of depth is going to catch up with them, finishing mid table... unless they have an amazing trade period with lack of currency.
