If the AFL are really defending that Shuey umpiring decision they've learnt nothing from all their previous lies and cover-ups,which is sadly unsurprising.
They didn't defend it.
The AFL umpiring Department said, "In its review of the Shuey decision on Sunday morning, the umpiring department did not view the Eagles' midfielder to have significantly contributed to the high contact."
However the AFL rules are, "Where a tackle is reasonably applied and the ball carrier is responsible for the high contact via a shrug, drop, arm lift or duck, play on should be called."
Note there's nothing in the rules about "significantly". A proper interpretation of the rules should be that if the player causes the high contact, after a proper tackle it should be play on.
It is completely BS that the Umpiring department reviews the umpires. There is no way on god's green earth that they're going to admit a mistake was made...
