With a week and a half until draft night we ideally want to get through this as quickly as possible. I'm not going to implement a time limit straight away, but I'll have to if things are just taking too long. If we go down that path we'll use one of the phantoms on the D&T board and pick the highest remaining player.

If you know you have a selection coming up and won't be around to take it...please send a list of preferences to someone who can take it for you. For that I would recommend either myself, or if you don't trust me, one of our other mods - ODN, Aphrodite or Chism.

Once you have taken your pick please tag the next person in line to notify them that it is their pick. Hopefully that speeds everything up.

If you wish to bid on a F/S or Academy player you will need to give the drafter for that club the opportunity to match. Calculating the shifting draft order isn't my strong-point. Jimmae are you all over that stuff?

I'll try to keep the draft order up to date here in the OP. Thanks to Jimmae for the updated order.

Ah, let's go.
#1 Brisbane Lions - Cameron Rayner

A real opinion divided, the "smarties" are divided between Rayner, LDU, Brayshaw and Dow for this one so going with the boom player.
Universally regarded as the most talented and influential player leading up to the draft. So many questions over his "tank", will he be a
genuine midfielder?

Looking at the new Brisbane with Fagan and Hodge, who would they want? Hawks have run deep with solid citizens, but embraced the
Buddy and Cyril X factor types. They have a few solid older mids and a group of youngsters transitioning in to the engine room. Will
not be a bust for them if Rayner stays an X factor forward only. Think they are up for the gamble. Disregarded "go home factor" for this exercise.

Plus I want to see how the mids pan out with him off the board.

esoteric you are up for Freo.

Pick 2 - Fremantle - Luke Davies-Uniacke

I am taking my Fremantle duties very seriously. Have analysed their list pretty closely, and have read through the entire draft thread on their board, to get a sense of what their fans are after. Like the Blues, Freo's most pressing need is for quality mids, followed by forwards. Had Rayner been available, I would have taken him here, but with some reluctance. I believe LDU to be the best midfielder in this draft. He was the player I wanted for Freo at this pick, and I think it will happen this way on draft night.

Jeremias we are all looking at you with bated breath.

Jeremias a couple of adjustments: Sydney have a pick in the 7th round (after Carlton), and Port (#89 in your order) and GWS (#93) have shed their 6th round picks, which should take your tally to 95 live picks.

Nice work Jimmae. Pabs is doing Doggies though :thumbsu:
Ta for pointing that out, it was resolving your username as an approximate match. :drunk:

Pick 3 - Carlton - Paddy Dow

Will write more tomorrow but with Rayner off the board it came down to Dow vs Cerra. And I've flipped between the two a few times here.

Dow I've been big on and it seems he's still a chance to go to the Lions at 1 but talk suggests were into Cerra here and the reality is his game may be more suited to what we're looking for. Dow looks a quality prospect but the question is can he coexist with Cripps and Kennedy in the same midfield?

Ultimately I'm not sure of the answer to that question but Cerra seems more of a bolter with Dow having been very highly rated throughout. So I'll go with what would probably be considered the safer option here.

Interesting take. I have been questioning whether Cerra could coexist with Cripps and Kennedy (3 bigger bodies without pace) as well as the 2 Curnow’s, whereas Dow would compliment nicely. You have the complete opposite view.

Pick 4 - Adam Cerra

Huge fan of this kid, the only thing he lacks is explosive pace over 5-10m. Will play 200 games imo. Safe bet for North and also best available.

I'm not buying the talk they are into Fogarty at this selection. I would of preferred Dow and I think he is probably their first choice. esoteric you're on the clock!

Pick 5 - Fremantle - Jack Higgins

I'm going off piste.

Freo fans would have me take D Fogarty or Brayshaw I think. Local boy Naughton will be a ripper, but is not what Freo needs. Plenty of other quality kids come into consideration here.

I am going for a lad that I believe, in ten years time when we "Re-do the 2017 draft", will be in the top 3. I don't think he will go this high on draft night. I also don't think he will last until Carlton's Pick 10. I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up a Saint.

Has been called the most professional, best prepared, most tenacious, most dedicated young man in the draft.

No real knocks on him apart from pace. Elite kick, elite decision maker, excellent overhead.

Could he be the next Brent Harvey? I don't think that comparison is too far off the mark.

Delusional reach or inspired selection over more fancied alternatives? Time will tell.

Great write up esoteric. I hate the pick personally but i like that you made it on your thoughts. And you may just be right. That's the nature of drafts.
