Without watching all the Key position prospects in this draft - I think Ballenden is the key position player that might slip in this draft, he is 199cm, 95kgs, has vice like hands, very strong build, almost ready made. Has under performed as a key forward in U18 Champs, but dominated at CHB in the last game. He is probably the top 10 prospect that might slip, but not sure he'll slip as far as our first pick.
Two Vic Talls that we may be able to get near are DeKoning and McCartin
Tom DE KONING 16/07/1999 200 92 Dandenong Stingrays & Tom MCCARTIN 30/12/1999 192 86 Geelong Falcons

DeKonings doesn't qualify for FS ..his dad played 31 for the dogs... just like McCartin ..I think his dad only played reserves for us but I do think its hard to deny genes as a good indicator

DeKoning takes chest mark at around 17.30 in the first q. Still very raw but at 200 he has obvious potential.

The boy who really stood out in this quarter to me is Walsh.. will go early next year.

Not really modern KPF size
25 Oscar ALLEN 19/03/1999 191 83 West Perth / Whitfords...

Played bigger on the day, wouldn't surprise me if he is taller than that, I'd still draft him if he was only that tall.

Edit: I've seen him quoted as 193cm

This might of interest Lana - bit of footage of Allen. Looks taller to me than 191cm too. Don't mind the look of Sam Taylor too - might be quite a nice KPD prospect.

Not much to go on, just going to have to wait until footage for the U18 championships gets released.

He has been talked about... what I saw was not a lot ..but wouldn't say he swamped me with his ability. Id probably prefer others with our first pick. Kruger has more upside I think and would be there later.
What did you like about him?

I felt like he read the flight of the ball really well, made a couple of ordinary kicks in his general direction look good by putting himself in the right place. Seems to be a smart footballer and he doesn't seem to be athletically deficient.

Dixon for the Allies is a clever mid sized type be worth a look if his combine stacks up

If we're hitting needs at this years draft it'd be the forward line. All types of them. Less concerned over combine results and more focus on their bags of tricks.

Your man wins the Larke .. Oscar Allen may now be before our pick ..Larke medalist usually go early don't they?

Im all for tricks as well... but I want us to players who will get a game. It just seems without being able to pump out some combine numbers that player does not get picked , and if the numbers fall short at the club a player just does not get a game. Id say Liam Ryan was an example of not getting picked ..had a poor combine..but he obviously has talent. Dixon looks a handy type but perhaps a fraction off athletically , more a footballer.

For what its work it will be very hard to work out a #1 pick next year... but not too many will be better the kid Izak Rankine. Ablett like the way he avoided players in the SA VicC match.

last 10 years (pick taken in brackets)
2007 Morton (4)
2008 Watts (1)
2009 Swallow (1) Hooper (rookie)
2010 Bennell (2)
2011 Coniglio (2)
2012 Whitfield (1)
2013 Sheed (11)
2014 Petracca (2)
2015 Schache (2)
2016 Graham (53)

Last year aside they've gone quite early. But almost all of these guys were highly rated before the the U18 championships and would have gone early anyway.

Graham shows if your not a fashionable choice the medal itself doesn't elevate a player. It goes back to have enough of the right traits. If he was 200cm tall they'd be no argument.

Ryan probably had more then just his combine results holding him back. Ideally I'd like the club to bring in underappreciated talent and nurture it. Turning a talented guy with a poor attitude or poor training standards around would be a massive win (I'd draw the line we it sprawls into substance abuse). It can't hurt to have one or two on the list. Skin folds and running times will only get better when the player is in a full time environment.

I like the one 06...
I say in a year when its starting to look thin... he will be gone earlier than 53

Maybe. It may also be that guys he a more relaxed can up it for a while but eventually will return to their more natural state...but we do need talent

Hey there guys ive been given the job of picking for your mob in the Bigfooty Trial Phantom Draft. Would like all your opinions on what type of players you want to target. As of now you have pick 20 first up and there is a good chance that a very good midfielder would be available and im not so sure on Key Forwards at that pick.

Forward talent... a KPF would be ideal.

That was my first thought but not sure if the forwards at that range are worth your first pick. Think I'll go all forwards with the later picks.

The issue is we have already got three late pick KPF on our list ... unless its really someone who slips , another late pick probably doesn't really give much to us... perhaps a forward/ruck. We really do not have a lot of young those types. P20... id have though a couple of handy forwards would be there.

Guys like Allen and Wooler would be a touch early imo. If you want smaller forwards could go a Higgins, Petruccelle or Spargo. Maybe someone like Balta who I prefer as a forward or Coleman-Jones if he plays a more forward/ruck role

Can you get us a new small forward? These ones keep breaking.

JJ in the VFL has hit some form - 8 goals in last two matches, plenty of touches and tackles. Albeit against the two bottom dweller sides in the VFL, but nonetheless good form.
He has, it's been good to see. Even before that when he was less in form I don't think he's gone goalless much at all, seems to have a good knack for scoring.

Looking to this year's draft, my three favourites are Dylan Moore, Lachie O'Brien and Nathan Kreuger. O'Brien has arguably the best kick in the draft and is so damaging, but isn't great in the contest. Moore is a football genius but short. Kreuger (196cm) could be anything but is raw.

(Can't find footage of Moore)

Edit: found this link that has a write up on Moore:

Have loved watching this kid develop, and there is so much raw talent, and heaps of room for improvement.
Quick, exciting, great mark, tackler
Not sure we'll be in a position to nab him, possible top 10
