I don't. players deserve a break. AFL is the most demanding sport in terms of "lifestyle" commitment as it is. Do you go to work voluntarily during your holidays? But you expect footballers to do so.

Much prefer to see them mentally ready for the season and refreshed after time away from the club.

Professionals will maintain their base level fitness. That is all you should expect.
All players are not the same and new recruits finished their seasons at different times. Sylvia decided to come to preseason at the same time as our senior players who finished their previous season later than Melbourne. McCarthy needs to start asap.

A lot of people do :) other than the centrelink bit its not too far off the truth.
In fact though I'm a part time drug & alcohol counsellor, part time IT support person, part time Yoga teacher and part time musician.
I'm just someone that has deliberately arranged their life so as to have plenty of spare time.
No kids, no mortgage and work part time so I get to go to the beach during the week or training if I want. Its amazing how much space you can create in a life if you don't need (or want) much money.

There you go Sweetback - E Shed works 4 jobs and still brings you training reports.

And an AFL player's career isn't very long so they need to make the most while they can

I think it shows their dedication and being that they're all under 24 their bodies should be able to recover quicker than say a person in their late 20's. I haven't taken annual leave in three years, something I really need to do to refresh but when work's busy and you have bills to pay, you gotta prioritize some things in life. If I can get a few weeks downtime i'll gladly take time but if I were to take time now i'd still be thinking about work
That's not something to be proud of though. That's like people bragging about working 16 hours days. You're just doing it wrong.

Depends on the motivation. Bragging to appear cool is pointless, but working hard to achieve a goal faster is worth respect. Plus there's always the scenario where for some, it's not work - just something they love to do that pays the bills.

And god bless all the good people who are inputting into their computers and calling it gainful employment.

I employ myself at a very reasonable rate to do very little.
Not sure about the new training shorts... and good to see not a pair of Adidas in any of those photos.
Coulda strikes again.

Yes, I can. Harley Bennell is out on the track doing solid running work.
Harley has no strapping on his calf muscles and is running at a solid pace. He also spent some time with Jason Weber doing some
agility work around cones and did not seem to be in any discomfort; it was the sort of drill players do in fitness tests and he looks to have come through strongly.
So that is all good on the Harley front.

Other players on the track included Michael Johnson who also has no strapping on his legs, Cam McCarthy, Taberner, Deluca, Brady Grey, Uebergang, Lee Spurr, Jon Griffin and Brad Hill.
Shane Kersten was also out running end to end alone.

The session was mostly running but no sprints. A few closed out the session with some goal kicking work which wasn't all that great.

We are back into it.

It seems I have mistaken Lachie Weller for Josh Deluca.
I was saying to DannyTheDoorman that I was surprised that Lachie Weller wasn't there. Looks like the haircut has fooled us both.
Saying that, it means Josh wasn't at training which is probably ominous.

Josh DeLuca not due back until 21 November due to finals played with Peel, but yeah I would have thought with the delisting he might have started earlier.

Uebergang did plenty of running while Brady had no visible strapping and didn't appear to be hindered in any way.
All in all it was a fairly lively session but not heavy.
Thanks.

Thoughts on training singlets and athletic training shorts being purple??

Aren't they always?

Although in years gone by we've had the logo all over the front. Maybe ISC have just run out of ideas....
