Long haired Champs.
Isaac Smith may have pipped him but I doubt anyone else would've.
Edit:just looked it up and Billy Hartung was the other time trial gun.

How is the beast Sean Darcy going? Round 1 debut likely or what
No way.
We can look forward to him developing at Peel.
Highly doubtful he'll be debuting 2017; if he does it will mean one of two things;
We have a huge injury toll with our talls or he is killing it in the WAFL.

No, if he debuts at all in 2017 our ruck stocks are likely in a lot of strife.
They already are tbh. Or at least, they have the potential to. Griff is made of balsa wood and is the wrong side of 30 and Clarke is coming off knee surgery. If Sandi goes down I could easily see him getting games. Deliberately omitting Apeness because he's not a true ruck and again, has had perpetual injury concerns.

Be careful what you wish for Fred.

Sandi, Griff and Zaarke are all currently out of action and not looking like being in the park any time soon - especially Zaarke.

Darcy won't play Rnd 1. But it's possible he'll play in the 1st half of the year.

Since when was there a problem with Sandi?

That we didn't actually draft a mature B-Grade ruck makes me think the club doesn't have serious finals aspirations in 2017, which is fair enough. Pretty happy that we got Strnadica to develop, but again, he won't be useful for awhile.

I also don't have much confidence in how we will be positioned for 2018, unless Sandilands does in fact prove to be immortal. My expectations are that Griffin and Clarke are gone, and Darcy still not ready. I think he is not an ideal combo with Sandilands, both having below elite mobility, to be generous. Neither seeming to be forward weapons or having clear second strings to their bows.

Apeness and Strnadica do project as possible relief rucks, but it is all in the realms of fantasy at this stage.

Taberner training in the ruck is fine by me. He could compete with some of the part-timers that get put up. We had Deboer at one stage......

Alex Pearce will be there also . not ideal but when you had no choice and at 199-200 tall he will be throw in there also. If zac Clarke injury come out short, Darcy will likely to be fast track .

We pretty much need anyone available. But we certainly don't want him doing much more than relief ruck work.

The only saving grace I can see is that our midfield could still be competitive with a losing ruck,

I really don't want him do ruck also , this will only required if Sandi the only ruckmen in the team . if you put together best 22 , I just can't see tab, Collins , Dawson ,apeness all in there to help Sandi.

I don't know if we have serious finals aspirations in 2017, but not drafting a mature B-grade ruck certainly has nothing to do with it.
We have Sandilands, Griffin, Clarke as mature Rucks. We have Apeness, Darcy and Strnadica as young Rucks. How many more should we have?

If worse comes to worse we have Taberner, Pearce and Dawson who can pinch hit. The days of the third man up are hopefully over.

I do agree that the lack of ruckman at training at the moment is a concern. But Sandilands has been out there most of the time. Apeness and Griffin look close to returning.

Sandi is not in rehab and is looking great on the track; just a bit lighter than last year.
Sean is a very big kid, indeed I have reported before that Sandi can't shift him in ruck duels at training. Sean stands his ground well. This leads me to think he will be a prominent ruckman in the WAFL.
Another thing about Sean, from observation, is he has sticky hands and a fairly good kick.
Darcy could end up serving as a combo ruck/forward, a bit like many of us have been saying for Apeness but not this year.
It could end up being the Darcy/Apeness ruck combo, show in 2019.

Long haired Champs.
Zaarke's post op. injury/complication would not be anticipated, but I'm certain they run through the squad assessing the available replacement quality for every man on the list,so they figure the cover is either adequate or the best that list balance and rebuild progress allows for this season.
Clearly there are future permutations around Sean which appears to be the chosen path and if another is required it'll be addressed.
I'm confident Sandi will be up and running Griff may present as a serviceable stop gap, but likely we'll aim to develop our forward ruck options around Apeness and Tabs.
Unfortunately it appears progressively less and less likely we'll ever see what Zaarke may have provided.
