'Home'.... lol, spent more time in wa than the gold coast, originally from tassie parents/brother in viccoDid they really attract Weller though. He just wanted to go home.
That is the best option, just play all the promising kids surrounded by the better players who will be there for the long term, finish 17/18th, grab another elite talent to go with this years pick 4.What if finishing last next year is the best option?
And teams not too far below them doing more for the future. North is kind of stuck in no-man's-land doing neither one thing nor the other and you could argue that they have been doing so for a long time. Its not just North doing nothing. Its North doing nothing while teams above them overtook them in regards to draft position. How are you going to get better than teams with more talent already who gain more access to talent than you?
1. Essendon - landed 3 quality targets Stringer, Smith & Saad
3. Port - brought in 2 good FA Rockliff & Motlop. Lost Trengove, but Watts as a forward more of a need. Traded out fringe types.
and failed to make finals after making it the year before... dohOn paper who would you have as the 3 biggest winners and 3 biggest losers out of the 2017 trade period and why?
for me
Winners
1) Essendon: Identified 3 players they wanted and brought them all in.
Meh, all we paid was a 2nd round pick in the 30s which we got for Impey and he was useless for us. Also ended up with saints 2nd round pick (21) this year. Both failing to make finals after doing so the year before...
A lesson there somewhere... Ask Juddy about it from earlier in the year when he raised concerns for them on FC.
The reaction was more to the fact we gave up nothing valuable. But if you happy with failing to make finals, guess "meh" reaction is fair enough for your low expectations. after making finals the year before.

1. Essendon - landed 3 quality targets Stringer, Smith & Saad
2. Fremantle - Replaced Wellar with Wilson as a bargain, but gained #2 pick. Wtf!
3. Port - brought in 2 good FA Rockliff & Motlop. Lost Trengove, but Watts as a forward more of a need. Traded out fringe types.
4. Carlton - do well on the Gibbs deal & more importantly used some of his picks to bring in younger players to help the rebuild - Kennedy & Lang... as well as adding a 1st rounder in this year's draft, but back in 2018.
5. Western Bulldogs - Got unders for Stringer, but always the case after they walked him out the door, then pretended he would be welcome back. Got Schache for a bargain & Trengove as a FA shores up their defence. Also, got another 1st rounder.
6. Adelaide - finally got our man Gibbs to strengthen our midfield, but for overs... so handed gains from CC & Lever trades. Brought in Gibson on the cheap, to ensure we have only 1 net experienced out to the squad (with Smith injured).
7. Melbourne - Paid overs for Lever, but got their targeted player. Also, got ok value for Watts, given they pushed him out.
8. Geelong - Ablett is handy get & getting #19 compo for Motlop thanks to Port's generous contract is a bonus.
9. West Coast - Got Ah Chee on the cheap, but strategy to bring in picks needed for the now to replace retiring players... but will them giving up 1st rounder in next year's superdraft be costly?
10. GWS - traded out Wilson for under & usual of trading out depth for picks. Got back into the 1st round after losing one for Whitfield.
11. Hawthorn - picked up Impey for #34 & unexpected bonus for Hodge coming out of retirement.
12. Sydney - traded out a player yet to play... as they know points are more important for their academy.
13. Richmond - just traded picks, but given their list & they got busy last year, no real need to do anything.
14. Brisbane - Paid overs for Cameron (thanks ) & lost Schache for unders. Lost Rockliff as FA, but Hodge's leadership should be invaluable. Lost net picks & players imo.
15. Collingwood - didn't do much. Would think they would be strengthening their KPP's. Why were they not chasing the likes of Watts?
16. St Kilda - brought in Logan, but would have though they would be targeting an established midfielder with one of their 1st round picks.
17. Kangaroos - Though it was a perfect opportunity to get some value for Goldy, which would speed up the development of Preust & much needed picks for rebuild.
18. Gold Coast - lost their best player & best pick #2. Wellar nice in, but overpaid... when compare to what they received for Saad.
Maybe because the post was written by a Crows supporter 10 months ago.How could last years grand finalist, who finished on top of the ladder, and who are now going to miss the finals by 3 games, end up being ranked in 6th position?
This was ranking trading not fitness & conditioning staff. How could last years grand finalist, who finished on top of the ladder, and who are now going to miss the finals by 3 games, end up being ranked in 6th position?
It is interesting that your top 6 all had poor to terrible years this year. This was ranking trading not fitness & conditioning staff.
Not a very good troll...
Or make a finalYeah, we failed. Needed to win a final.

14. Brisbane - Paid overs for Cameron (thanks )

Winners
1) Essendon: Identified 3 players they wanted and brought them all in. From all reports the haggling on prices were all on the other sides of the Stringer trade and have strengthened their list while also holding on to Francis.
2) Fremantle: Although I rate Weller and think he will be a gun, to get pick 2 for a homesick player who is still relatively unproven is an absolute steal. One of the most surprising trades I can remember
3) Carlton: Got a great return on Gibbs and although they lost their 2018 2nd they now have two picks in that round going into next year. Strengthened their on-ball division with the addition of Kennedy and now have another top 10 pick.
Losers:
1) Gold Coast: Giving up a prized pick 2 for Weller is a massive overpay. Their Ablett result was satisfactory and Young provides them with some zip, but a horrible finish for them.
2) Brisbane: Overpaid big time for Cameron, hit the panic button when they could have got him much cheaper in 12 months. Also the Schache trade is just strange, granted there may be more than meets the public eye here.
3) Collingwood: Added next to nothing and traded their second round pick in 2018 for a kid who has never played a game. Mind boggling stuff.
Stringer and Saad have both been very good this year. However it’s just unfortunate that it took 8 weeks for the group to click. At least Murray was a rising star nomination. Maybe not so mind boggling after all.
Brisbane ended up being one of the winners with no only Cameron, but getting something decent for Schache.
Agree with Freo, GC, not sure about the blues given they only won 1 game for the season, and the bombers didn’t make the 8 when some expected them to be top 4. Although Smith will probably win their B&F and was a great get. The jury is out on the other 2
what if you win a final next yearYeah, we failed. Needed to win a final.
Failed year this year still.what if you win a final next year
