Scotland and Ireland got the first "bonus point" six nation championships underway with a 27-22 Scottish win over match favourite Ireland at Murrayfield. The Scots first week 1 win at Murrayfield since 2006.

As always in a Lions Tour year, matches between the home nations are markers for spots on the Tour squad and with Gatland already flagging that he has 15 players selected in principle before today's match some spots could well have changed from Green to Blue. No doubting Stuart Hogg from a Scottish point of view is on the tour after today.

England followed up with a 19-16 win over France and their 15th win in a row under Eddie Jones. The French would consider themselves unlucky edging the English in all major stats only to concede a late try. A perfect example of "Eddie-ball"

Tonight sees the Welsh head to Rome to take on Italy in what many consider the battle for the wooden spoon

Round 4 could well be termed 'Lions Tour Selection Round', because with a Lions touring squad to be announced at the end of the RBS 6 Nations Championship, all the players from the 4 Home Unions-England, Ireland, Wales and Scotland-will be putting their case for inclusion into the Lions team.

Wish they would consider a second tier to the six nations - or at least some sort of promotion/relegation/qualifiers

As much as I love Italy due to my ancestry, I'd still also like some of the other European sides to have a crack in some way - Russia, Georgia, Romania could put on a show

The concept of 6 nations seems a bit dated, given there has been a fair amount of growth for the game in Europe over the past 20 or so years. Would love more nations to be able to compete

Ireland just became the first side to claim the Bonus Point for Tries Scored in their 63-10 win over Italy which was also their largest ever win in the competition, which beat their 2000 win over the Italians and also saw CJ Stander score the first hat trick of tries for Ireland in the Six Nations since Brian O'Driscoll did it in 2002.

Round 4 could be for more than just Lions selection on the line but also the triple crown, the title and the Calcutta Cup on the line in the England vs Scotland match with the Irish hoping for an English win to take the title decider to the final day with Ireland to play England. Scotland beats England and the bonus point comes into play for the title.

Big Weekend coming up
