Draft Review 2017 - Revisit the 2017 AFL draft

Tiger fan growing up. Has stated the best day of his life was September 30th.
To be honest though, the top of the range Tiger fans hardly come to us. Think Luke Hodge, Jimmy Bartel and Nat Fyfe.

Wouldn't mind if Cerra becomes good and nominates us though.

Freo lost the draft with the second pick of the night. :'(

yep... should be interesting to see if a foward line with 5 smalls in it can dominate, or come unstuck... likewise whether character traits that scared other clubs off will become an issue
Docs seem to clear the heart condition as nothing
Docs can lie to help a player (Heppell and his OP for example) but I think most clubs would have done their own testing here

I’d like Beast Mathieson to provide his insights into Collingwood supposedly drafting on hype at 6 only for said player to then be there at 39. campbell023 that would have us as big winners wouldn’t it?

I liked Geelong’s draft the most in terms of where the club is right now, but like us they didn’t get that KPF they needed so I’m not so sure for the long term and Fremantle’s for the future.
Geelong are applying the brakes on the approach to the cliff
Ablett will keep them competitive
But constable is probably only pipped by Higgins as steal of the night.
Cats did alright I think

Freos kpf stocks will be greatly helped when hogan asks for a move and the dees name Brayshaw and cerra as the price

As to other clubs I don't think West Coast's picks are as bad as some suggest I think they all have a good potential to make it (apart from Ryan who I think is a real risk the rest are fairly solid) but to me the mix is all wrong, they have plenty of third talls with Darling Waterman Allen etc I am not sure what another Allen is really for, and they are crying out for mids of Kelly's type and they take 2 tall forwards a medium forward (Ryan) and an outside mid (Petrucelle). Brayshaw is a very good pick but the rest of the mix is wrong. I think they just gambled that we would leave Kelly be and they lostt.
Our midfield will be better than most think.
Redden has been injured and now recovered showed a fair bit late 2017. Add Venebles to Shuey, Shred, Duggan and now the best extractor at U18 level in Ainsworth then add Brayshaw.
O.Allen i think will play wing/hff a bit NRoo and then you have Gaff and Jetta on the outside.
Yeo to pitch hit in there plus I think Partington and Jackson could make it and the one I'm really excited about moving up onto a wing is Watson.
So it's not terrible at all. People think with Mitchell and Priddis leaving there is no midfield but last season Mitchell didn't play that much in the guts and Priddis was well below his best. A fit and firing NN will make soooo much difference and if he plays all year I think alot of keyboard pundits might be surprised how far WC can go

You don’t grab a bloke at 30 because he won’t be there at 72. You go best talent

A few years ago we picked Kane Lucas on "best talent".

Sometimes you have to take the shirt that fits you even if the colours not exactly right.

If you want/need a player you take him before anyone else can. Some said we reached for Cripps.

It’s interesting because of their 4 picks the only one I didn’t particularly like was Constable, but it’s hard to argue with production and if their forward half stays healthy they’ll go alright.

What happens if the AFL change FA eligibility to 6 years ;)

I’m only a mug draft watcher, but I had 3 and a 1/2 sure bets in this draft (Stephenson was the half because I have no idea who to believe with his heart and I’m still not convinced). Freo getting two of them for now is noteworthy, IMO.

Fogarty looks like a gun. A bigger bodied Sloane.

Crows lose Lever and Cameron.

Get Gibbs and Fogarty. Plus a couple of extra first rounders next year.

Decent outcome. They're due for a good outcome at the trade table.

If Melbourne and Carlton finish low, our 2018 picks start to look a lot better

Won't be long and Dow will follow, albeit, from Princess Park to Arden Street.
The look across when LDU heard his named called..

How we got Hayes at 47 is ****ed. Most had him pegged between about 8-20. Shows you don’t need high or first round picks all the time to get the players you want.

I know you guys are delirious right now, but I feel Brayshaw and Cerra complement our current & future midfield rotation more than LDU would've, much as I like him. We already have similar types in Fyfe/Neale/Blakely in there, we needed a bit of polish which is something you can't really say LDU has at this stage. There's also a little factor called retention, something you Vics just aren't as appreciative of; AB is the obvious pick from that angle. lots of water yet to go under the bridge but I think both clubs will be happy with their picks in the long run, all trolling aside ;)

also i don't understand why you aren't more thankful towards GC, without whom this never would have been possible

Polish? That’s LDU’s biggest wrap.

Glenn Luff from CD said he had easily the best disposal of the top 5, he said his kicking <30m to a target is elite.

i wouldn't stress on the heart condition thing. I imagine any club weighing him up put him through an ECG and did their due diligence.

Constable is a good kid. He isn't flash but he replaces Selwood in what i think will be the very near future.
Ive watched the draft pretty closely in 2014-2016, but this year i didn't get to do much.
But i liked Constable's TAC games and his combine testing. The write ups are promising. Had we kept pick 11, he's who i would have liked to see us take.

Or maybe he slid so far because he was severely overrated by 'phantom draft' guys?

I still think Carlton will finish bottom 3-4 next year. They're building, but it's not ready to take off yet.
Melbourne are a top 4 contender. They had some terrible luck and a lot of ill discipline that cost them games this year. Expect them to remedy that.

How long do you think he has left? Does Selwood go through injury or poor form?

Got to laugh at those predicting his imminent demise because he finally got a serious injury and probably came back a bit too early.

Port don't seem to mind gambles on the talls that slide.
Marshall, Ladhams, Hayes.
Eddy was a mid-ish sized forward too.
Fair bit at your disposal to build a forward line around now and in the future.

Now that you have Garner as well, you can trade us Bonner. :) poor kid, we clearly read the wrong number out that night. Alex Morgan. sheesh.

Winners
Richmond , Geelong , StKilda, Bulldogs , West Coast, Fremantle ( solid selections)

Nice work
Hawthorn ( nailed what they had )

Odd
Brisbane ( picks 15 & 18 )

WTF
North Melb ( picks 23 & rest )
3 mids then a project ruck and Hartung to add some pace?? I am happy with what we did last night.
