Only knock on him really is his kicking. Far too wayward. But even a 25% improvement and he's an elite KPP at both ends.Does Naughton have any real competition for 1 at this stage?
Yeah he misses really easy goals - he should win a Coleman with the amount of shots on goal.Only knock on him really is his kicking. Far too wayward. But even a 25% improvement and he's an elite KPP at both ends.

His attack on the footy in the air is amazing - heart in mouth stuff. His body will be a mess before 30.His ability to follow up at ground level after a marking contest is near best in the league especially if you consider how hard he attacks the ball.

Problem with that is that he’s just a very very ordinary kick of the football in general and has been since before he was drafted (it would be by far the main reason he wasn’t picked higher, in what was a “nothing special” top end) and significantly improving your kicking is one of the least likely things to happen.Only knock on him really is his kicking. Specifically, his kicking for goal. Field kicking is an issue for a lot of KPFs, but Naughton would have legitimately cost himself a good 15 or so goals last year by missing simple shots that guys like McKay, Brown, Buddy, etc would slot with their eyes closed. I lost count of how many he missed from maybe 30m out straight in frontOnly knock on him really is his kicking. Far too wayward. But even a 25% improvement and he's an elite KPP at both ends.
Noah BaltaDoes Naughton have any real competition for 1 at this stage?
I know you're obsessed with Balta but he's nowhere near Naughton. Naughton is head and shoulders the best player in this draft with Brayshaw the only potential challengerNoah Balta
Brayshaw second in coaches votes most key stats are eliteI know you're obsessed with Balta but he's nowhere near Naughton. Naughton is head and shoulders the best player in this draft with Brayshaw the only potential challenger

Naughton came 3rd in our B&F in defence in his 1st year. He is a better defender. Its true that Naughton has shown more, but I think you are discounting Balta as KPD in flag winning team.
Some may say, what Naughton has done as forward, Balta has done just as much as a defender.
IMHO forwards have to be rated higher than defenders, all else being equal, that's why ATM Naughton gets the nod
Lets see how Balta goes as a forward for the rest of the year, so far in 2022, its closer than you think.

Naughton kicked 40 goals last season Balta kicked 2.
Fletcher Roberts was a KPD in a flag winning team doesn't make him any good.
We are 3 games into the season and he has .3 more marks and .7 more contested thats not a lot.
If he hasn't done so already, I'm looking for Tom McCartin to hit top 10.
Just a remarkable player in the backline.
Him, Starcevich and De Koning to be my 3 risers and Kelly and Stephenson my 2 sliders.
Sam Taylor and Zac Bailey to solidify their spots.
Starcevich is a bit underrated I feel. Rarely beaten in the backline. There's been some talk on the Lions board of moving him into the midfield
If he's made the backline his playing home, why move?
I think the talk of him moving to the midfield will be put to bed with the improvement from Rayner, Bailey and Cockatoo spending more time in the middle, looks like we'll get a couple more mids in this years draft so I think Starc will continue to develop into a gun half-back.If he's made the backline his playing home, why move?
That's the general consensus on the Lions board.
