Tennys Sandgren, Amanda Anisimova - USA

Qualifying starts tonight with the men, Groth, Whittington, Smith, Polmans & Ebden will all try and not lose first round (their all either in poor form or been playing challengers in Asia and elsewhere).

Coverage is on Fox Sports again this year (from Sunday) and yes it looks like it'll be the same trash again. Highly recommend Eurosport player for anyone with some knowledge.

Not looking forward to seeing Stosur tumble down the rankings either...

that is a VPN isnt it?

yeah, my confidence for Stosur is shot. making the 3rd round would be alright achievement based on her current form. that would still be a loss of 500 odd points IIRC

Polmans won his first round qualifier (opponent retired in the third) Whittington, Ebden, and Smith lost.

Groth, Cabrera, Aiava and Rodionova play tonight.

Hey man at least French Open is on TV. I heard the US Open won't be shown on Fox Sports.

... and all of our 3 girls in FO qualies: i.e. Cabrera, Aiava and Ar Rodionova, are eliminated as well. All in straight sets.

Underwhelming wild cards.

Anisimova (USA) could be interesting. Still 15 and was RU in the Jr FO last year. This year she's been RU in a ITF 25k (Brazil), a 60k (USA) and a 80k (USA) event. All on clay.

Damn hopefully they sort something out coverage wise for the US Open. Thought I read somewhere that ESPN would show it rather than Fox Sports.

Looks like the daily serve show with Wally Masur and Adam Peacock has been shelved for the French Open. Hopefully returns for Wimbledon.

Aussie Marc Polmans up against Guido Paella tonight.
Don't know much about either player. 186 versus 114 ranking.

Wally was out of Fox Sports coverage due to his commitments with TA I think.

Probably should leave this as a last post about this on this thread to stop derailing but did look up 2017 Foxtel's calendar and there was nothing there for the US Open, honestly can't claim you're Australia's sport leader if you going to give up one of the slams. We;ll see what happenes, there will be coverage, just a matter of who.

Hopefully Halep is ok for the French Open

WTA World No.4 Simona Halep has revealed she is "50/50" to compete at the French Open after suffering an ankle injury during the final of the Internazionali BNL d'Italia.

The Romanian wrote on social media that a scan showed she had torn a ligament after falling against Elina Svitolina but she remains hopeful of a swift recovery.

"Arriving early in Paris for treatment," said Halep. "The MRI scan shows a torn ligament from the fall in Roma. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for RG [Roland Garros] and will do everything possible to be ready.

"Doctors say it's 50/50 at the moment but it's made good improvement since Sunday."

She thanked tennis fans for their messages of support, adding: "We are remaining very positive."

Damn, hopefully she recovers in time. Halep pretty much had her name already engraved on the trophy.

Siegemund has had to pull out of FO with a serious knee injury.

Polmans lost 6-4 in third, actually a good scoreline against a guy who has had some results on tour

Wow as far as the men are concerned I'm expecting losses almost all round, tough first rounder for Nick, we'll see if he's keen these two weeks right here, in the danger zone if he doesn't come out well early. De Minaur might get Haase on a bad day but really beyond that none of them are getting a set
