I had Pickett and Florent on the ground plus a zero from Swallow and had Butler on the bench. Managed to get 2187. I'll hold Pickett for a while yet. I'm lucky enough to have a few mid priced players so I don't need all rookies to go to 300k to trade for a premium.

Lucky? Unluckly, you've upgrade to a premo 5+ week later than everyone else.

I've gone down a similar path to you, but not to that extreme.
I've got 5 rookies onfield and 7 midpricers vs your 3 rookies and 13 midpricers.

The problem generally with going with lots of midpricers is that you dont get a total team value anywhere near as high as a guns and rookies team.
And more money to spend on players = better team generally.
(Most years the top teams value ends up being around 13.5 million)

I've gone with 7 midpricers this year because the lack of good rookies i think means that the top guns and rookie teams won't get quite as high in total team value (maybe maxing out sub 13 million this year?)

So if that happens, in theory I'll be well placed because my lack of cash generation wont be as significant as would be the case in other years.

I'd suggest going with 13 midpricers you REALLY need guns and rooks total team values to stay very very low (sub 12 million?), or else you will struggle in the 2nd half of the year.

However it pans out, it's going to be a facinating year
A comment like this puts me into reality as a 28 yr old man reading a fantasy footyball fanboard when intoxicated.

Cheers.

I am thinking about keeping Smith as a loophole atm with Stewart, Otten and Hampton still not settled. Obviously this is ****** when either 3 are out, but for the moment I might keep it loopholing unless McGrath and another mid rookie absolutely goes ballistic next week and forces my hand.

All depends on Taranto. If he spuds again, i will have to move on him

Im hanging onto Smith as there is nobody to trade him to at the moment.

I'll give Taranto another week, I'm hoping he comes good because I'm literally $100 short of trading him to Marchbank

P.Cripps was roughly the same price in 2015 and started with a 50 as well, then went on to average 90 odd. :rainbow::rainbow:

Anything under 75 is in rage trade territory though.

Remember that first year players simply don't have the tank to run out games. Combine that with the fact that game was held in 34 degree plus temps and it was always likely that a first year rookie would really struggle. I don't have Taranto but unless you have to move on him I'd definitely hold for another week. if he is the most pressing of your issues after the first round then I think you are doing well.

Taranto actually looked best at the very end of the game when they took him off the wing and put him on the ball because half their mids were already dead, so thats a positive.

I have J.Smith on the bench but I keep getting the itch to trade him this week.

My rookies are:

Marchbank 97, Hampton 50 (Hibberd 23, Smith 23)

PP 78, (SPS 59, Barrett 46, Pickett 28)

(Strnadika 0)

Taranto 44, Simpkin 35 (Parfitt 44, Eddy 30)

My main concern is that there are quite a few rookies that didn't play too well, and if they do the same again, then they might be dropped next week - causing multiple issues then.

Smith will need to be traded, so do I pull the trigger early to give me two options if I need them next week, or wait and make a better judged choice after this round?

The hard thing is figuring out who to trade him too this week. There's not many cheap options. Otten 45? Stewart 57? McGrath 83 looked good, but I need 8k more cash...

Hmmm maybe waiting till next week is the better option after all

Stewart seems like a pretty safe bet to be in the team for a while.

It could also be worth making that trade this week so that u can make 2 correctives trades next week and maximise cash generation

Might already have done the rounds, if so, ignore, else EVW played well in VFL, Don't mess with Zurhaar a chance at a rookie upgrade down the track:

If EVW is in it might be prudent to wait until after his second game and then to get him for Smith or some other spud, this over-reactive shit for brains Scott could quite easily drop any of these Norf spuds after a shit game or two.

How does this Smith loophole work mate? Start smith on field? Can you change emergencies over the weekend?

Chuck the E on Otten on your bench and place Smith on ground, if Otten scores an 80+ or so, keep Smith on field, if Otten scores shithouse, put Otten on your bench for Stewart or whoever you're loopholing him with (assuming Otten isn't dropped for being shithouse himself).

i have Otten (E) and Stewart on the pitch as Otten plays first. If Otten scores 70+, i will move Smith onto the field and put Stewart on the bench to get the 70+

Agree, I think there is the tendency to overreact to the cluster of lower scores last week and that it generally makes sense to hold for a week unless outs force the hand (e.g. combi-trade Smith + Riewoldt --> x)

I reckon if Roo is only out for two then there is no point trading him out, a saved trade now could mean not being forced to play a shithouse rookie in the back end of the season to cover for a premo that has gone down indefinitely.

Smith I will trade for a playing rookie or Long.
If my structure is still looking like a failure I'll make some moves to change it Ithink.
