Unfortunately, this decision will need to be made in the 50 minutes we have between Thursday night team announcements, and the Carlton v Richmond match
Hoping for several $102k - $130k rookies

Agree and that small time frame will surely see the website crash as usual!

Sorry, I'm having a blonde moment

Why would we need to decide between Swallow and McCluggage + Bowes before the Carlton-Richmond match?

Teams/rookies announced 50 minutes before bounce down of the Carlton Richmond game.

Or will we still be abke to bring unlocked rookies in?

No, pretty sure it's a rolling lockout throughout the entire round.
Hmmmm

I'm an alcoholic so I can't remember what was going on round 1 last year.
Deal with it after JLT

There might be some confusion between the rolling lockout for Rd 1 versus all other rounds.

Ordinarily the rolling lockout means you can use your two trades (or three during bye rounds) at any stage to trade players that aren't yet locked out, but the trades are non-reversible.

Whereas in Rd 1, you have unlimited reversible trades throughout the round to trade players that aren't yet locked out.

Beams will surely play 22 games.

TOP-10 draft picks Jack Bowes and Ben Ainsworth are well placed to debut for Gold Coast in round one after impressive pre-seasons.

Suns coach Rodney Eade told AFL.com.au Ainsworth and Bowes had completed every training session since joining the club via picks No.4 and No.10 in last November's NAB AFL Draft.

Former Suns academy member Bowes' ability to quickly pick up game-plans and defensive systems has stood out this summer, while small forward Ainsworth has also thrust his name into round one calculations during match practice.

Horse Longmire apparently is hinting that Nic Newman will be in the best 22. Mature-aged half back flanker upgraded from the rookie list this year.

ESSENDON will take a cautious approach with No.1 pick Andrew McGrath in his debut season, with coach John Worsfold mindful of the injury issues suffered by young star Jaeger O'Meara after a hectic start to his career.

Worsfold tempered expectations on McGrath, saying the small rebounding defender was no certainty to line up for Essendon's season-opening game against Hawthorn.

"At the moment, he's done only just over half the workload of what the senior guys are doing and if Dyson Heppell had done that workload I'd be concerned about him going into round one," he said.
