Whys that exactly?
Dont mess around with your rucks. Set and forget. Pick those fwd/ruck options in your forward line to cover your ruck premos if they miss a game.
They just don't have the same ceiling and scoring capacity as what your out and out rucks do.
If Ryder goes down or scores shit, it will be hard to replace him. Not as bigger issue in your fwd line where there are far more options. E.g. To a rookie. (Where as that isn't really possible in the ruck line).

Given that every second team posted this week has Ryder at R2 , with the idea of moving him fwd in rd9, I would say that most disagree with you.
I would say that I'll finish above all of those people. Good luck.

I dont agree with you.

Ryder as R2 is a very good option! It allows you 9 rounds before his bye to see who is the 2nd best option, maybe thats Grundy or Stef or Goldy etc. Then when Port have their bye you swing Ryder forward and bring in the 2nd best option as R2. This year all the top rucks have question marks over them except maybe Gawn. So Ryder allows you 9 rounds to see clearly who is the 2nd best option available as opposed to guessing before round 1.

who is set and forget this year?
Gawn and Grundy? Gawn and Stef? they aren't exactly the best set and forget combo we've ever seen

Jacobs, Mummy, Goldy, Sandi and NicNat all injured

if you're going to get away from set and forget rucks, this is the year to do so

And during those 9 rounds where you're hoping a bloke that averaged 85 in his only season at Port, coming off a year long break, can match that or improve. The top 1% have nailed their R2 and are 20-30 points in front of you each game.

Aren't you the guy with witts at R2?

gotta get creative in the rucks as there isnt really a standout R2 or even R1 for some people.

If people pick Ryder in the rucks (which im doing atm), it is with the hope that we move him into the fwd line at rd9 after we have seen how the other rucks are going.

Its still too early to tell if Ryder at r2 will be the right choice, but for now a lot of people are happy to start him there as they arent sure on the best R2 or who the 2nd or 3rd best ruck will be.

just need to remind you that Ryder averaged 101 (which would put him 4th on the rucks) in 2014 and 105 (3rd in the rucks) in 2012 as the main ruck. He is an out and out ruck, but just rests forward more than others due to his flexibility.

averaged 85 as a 2ND ruckman.... he will be the number 1 ruck this year. saying that the top 1% would have nailed their R2 is stupid, more chance of H2TYW winning this year than that happening

averaged 92.8 in 5 games as main ruck, rounds 1, 2, 3, 20, 21 (scored 111 and 100 in 20 and 21) ignore first 3 rounds as he was always going to start slow in a new team

You sure about that?
I held Daniel Rich until round 15 last year, as did a few others in the top 100.
The bloke that won started with Mitch Robinson.

No it doesn't. Getting a selection wrong in a forward or defence line is no where near as detrimental as botching it in the rucks.
please enlighten us on who the correct ruck picks are.. or is that secret?

not necessarily, it all depends on how the rest of your team is scoring or how you have structured your side.

getting a selection wrong in the rucks isnt more detrimental than getting one wrong elsewhere, its just more annoying.

but please do enlighten us with the top 2 rucks of this year, that would be greatly appreciated :)

Didn't know either of those blokes were rucks.
You're taking the piss right?
I'm sure whoever you pick as your R2 will define your season

from one of the Suns' lads on their board re Witts

Witts our only ruckman today so he basically just hit it to space at the bounces and had set running patterns to adhere to ie. sprint to forward line to create option, float back, etc. Rocket making sure he has plenty of kms in the legs.

Nicholls still jogging laps only and Currie sat the game out. Not sure on his injury.

Gold Coast general manager of football operations Marcus Ashcroft yesterday told The Australian Witts had elevated himself to the No 1 ruck spot following an outstanding pre-season.

“He’s a massive man — six foot nine in the old — and he’s an elite runner,” Ashcroft said. “He can run two kilometres as well as any of our midfielders and we think the new ruck rule will help him.

“He’ll play for us on Sunday against Brisbane and at the moment, he’s the front runner to be our first-choice ruckman once the season proper starts."

Tom Nicholls is on the way back from calf and hip flexor issues ... Daniel Currie, who played four senior games in 2016, is being managed for knee tendinitis.
