Have you factored in having the (C) on Gawn? .......and whilst he may average120, Gawn can pump out 150+ scores that Witts can't

Isn't is a SC guide that when selecting sides, you factor in potential captain players that can go big? ......Dangerfield, Gawn, Shaw

Depends on how many captain options you have in your side already. From my MIDs alone I have Danger, Pendles, JPK, Treloar, Fyfe and Beams.

Witts will never be a captain option, but that isn't the purpose of having him; he operates solely as cover AND as a higher end cashcow in the same category as Taranto/WHE.

90% of the time ill be taking fyfe or dangerfield, but thats a good point that you raise.

The discussion actually is about having Witts as a R2

If everyone takes those same two, isn't it an advantage to have other captain options as a POD ......it's said that those POD captain options can set you apart from the pack

Your correct ....but Sandilands at $90K more will score more, and at the end of the day it's all about scoring points

No use having players appreciating in value, if you're so far behind everyone else
I have Sandilands. You're not behind anyone. Logically think about that statement. The fact he'll average more than his price suggests I'll be ahead of those who pick a ruckmen who drops in price.

 ...i have Sandilands too .....but i'm not going to back against Gawn, who may become a superstar of the AFL ?

Its not really advantage if they're better options. It might be worth it as a hail mary to try and make up points late in the year, but Picking a POD just for the sake of it will end up putting you behind in the long run.

I think Gawn is a good VC candidate becuase he has shown that he is capable of going 150+ pretty regularly, but the only chances you'll get to do this early on if you have Strnadica is rounds 1 and 3.

This is not correct ....there's generally a player on your reserve bench that doesn't play (not on purpose) .......and what if Strnadica (freo) has played b4 Melbourne plays

FWIW i'll be starting Callum Brown as a midfield rookie .....won't be picked initially, but won't be long ....he's my Capt loophole

Sandi and Ryder arent mid price 'break out players' - they are fallen premos
Nank is a mid price break out player - Steele is a mid price break out player

Sandi is old. Really old. He missed almost all of last year. He has old man disease. He is a fallen premo, but at some stage he will break or be rested. He is very tempting but I am trying to resist.

Ryder isn't quite a proven premium. He misses games and he struggles to put together a complete premium year. Also, Kenny loves Lobbe. He's going to play some matches this year.

I spruiked Port trading for Steele all of last year when most people said he was a spud. I'm not picking a borderline best 22 player at that price. Must ignore pre season numbers.

Nank was fourth ruck for Sydney. I spruiked Port trading for Nank. He's played stuff all games.

I had all of these players in my side a couple of days ago. Now I have lynch (gold coast), grundy and Toby Greene. (I can't stand Toby greene)

Currently I have Goldy and Sandi.
Regardless I'm going Sandi for savings... so I'm guess it's between Goldy or Gawn.
Thoughts on Goldy vs Gawn?

That's who I was looking at for the flonut but pies aren't so confident he gets games later

I am ....he's all footballer and will surprise ...you can do worse than have Callum Brown, particularly if you're batting deep in the midfield

why? due to the lack of decent rookies elsewhere (who knows, some more may pop up out of the blue), Witts' price and role makes him a juicy proposition to make 120-150k before his round 9 bye

he has a reasonably rough run up to his bye
Martin
Mumford
McEvoy
Kreuzer
Jacobs
Goldy
Smith
Ryder

but if he can get 80 against Mumford, Goldy and get 90 from the rest, thats all I'm looking for

He will get 200+ against McEvoy.

Cheers. Means a lot from you.

To many rookies onfield? Or do the safe premo picks even things out?
Sorry mate, was out with my lovely partner last night thus I had no time to respond. I think that you have the correct balance of rookies and the structure looks good, however some of the rookies are still precarious in terms of them actually getting selected. If they do, go with it, if not, then plan to alter your side which might have to include spending a bit more on the more expensive rookies who have better JS.

Trying to sort out thoughts on this Witts and ruck strategy:
If take Gawndilands and Witts as R3 - when Sandi goes down, then upgrade either Sandi or Witts (whoever is more) to whoever going well for R2, is it too much to leave the other as loophole r3? otherwise its 2 trades to upgrade and then still end up with loophole r3.

Or take Cameron as r3 and take the punt that Sandi will get to bye and then when Sandi misses then upgrade R2 and keep Cameron as R3?

Yes you'll need to save those trades - so you can spend them on upgrading the extra rookies you will start on every other line over those that take Sandi and Witts. Except that those extra rookies will have even worse JS than Witts does.
That has crossed my mind tbh

Will make changes if hardly
Any 117-123k rookies are named

But let's just wait until offical teams are out, Pickett, Barrett, Parfitt etc I'm relying on

I am adopting the Nankerlands stratergy with Witts as R3. When it is time to upgrade I'll be downgrading Witts once he moos and using that $ to upgrade.

I can then swap Nank into the forward line and switch in and upgrade a forward to the best ruckman. Or I can just upgrade either Nank/Sandi to the best ruck - whatever option appeals most.
